Was on my way back from work (in EC) at around 11 PM when I realised that the perennially under construction flyover between EC and silkboard has finally been opened to the public today & whats more the toll booths arent operational yet ! Thought I would try it out today since Ive heard that they plan to charge 15 bucks for a bike one way and the incoming pay hikes arent going to be sufficient to pay for such a stiff toll.

Wow. Thats what was ringing through my head as I reached Silk board a few minutes later. The brilliant road, the lovely lighting, the bitter cold wind (my Nero did the best it could but Mother Natures is a b**ch) and a fresh out of service R15 combined to make an awesome experience. Wow. I just couldnt resist taking a U turn and heading back to EC. Double wow. So I headed back to Silk board and couldnt gather enough will to deny myself the satisfaction of another high speed run. So off I went again back to EC . Did a total of 4 1/2 such laps (80+ kms) before I noticed the low fuel warning and decided enough is enough.

Am sure the photography nuts will have a splendid time at nights there.

Edit : Just noticed the speed limit that has been mentioned as 80 kmph. Suffice to say I maybe, kinda, probably didnt stick to that ......
what was the speed u achieved?

2days, 6 rides done on the elevated way

      1) saw 1 pulsar, 1 platina, 1 tvs 50 pushing the bike on the flier! (they ran out of fuel near kudlu gate/jail junction)

      2) evening i saw few couples taking evening stroll till the first lay-bye area in front of infy!

      3) a star city bloke with his kid on the tank, his wife pillion with another kid- on the right HIGH-SPEED lane! cabs were honking from behind, and the poor star did not know what to do!

If these are the kind of situations we are to face on the flier, its utter useless! I know none of them mentioned here wont check this post, but i just hope the village-bikers get more matured and ride safe on the left lane!

You know what, on some online forum jaywalking like this was actually justified saying that land is primarly meant for humans beings to walk Implying that walkers have the right of way ALL the times, even on a tolled expressway Beat that

By allowing bullock-carts, bi-cycles, threesome on bikes (not like that) we are taking a step in becoming an inclusive society. I preach to all fellow bikers, please be tolerant of fellow human beings.

Investment in infrastructure projects is sheer waste of money really. We should actually dig up existing roads so that no vehicle can cross 20kmph. That way everybody can use the road leading to greater inclusivity, harmony, brotherhood and peace.

          Sorry for the rant.

Rant time for me as well. Having done over a 100 kms on the elevated highway, Ive realised that all this infrastructure is utterly pointless unless our driving sense improves. 3 cases in point

                  1. Was returning home from work late last night & got onto the elevated highway and was overtaking a couple of cars when a Fiesta came up right behind me and suddenly started honking and flashing his headlights trying to get me to move out of the way. I oblige after overtaking the cars by moving to the left lane and they overtake me (with both of us doing speeds of over a ton) when the half bit wannabe teenage punk in the passenger seat sticks his head and arms out the window and starts hollering at me proud that they have overtaken me. Ignored them and let them bask in their shallow glory.

                  2. Was on the elevated highway again today and I was half way down the sweeping road down into EC (its a long looping blind right) when I suddenly noticed an attendent standing in the middle of the road directing a Santro to reverse up the road. Fortunately I was able to avoid them both but had a car been coming down at decent speeds it wouldve mowed down the attendent and rammed the Santro.

                  3. This takes the cake. There was an auto driving at full speed on the wrong side of the elevated expressway !

P.S - Forgot about the speed limit. Again. Note to self : The speed limit is 80 , yes eighty ......

Is there a chance that for inbound traffic during peak time after the smooth ride on the expressway, they could get stuck in a gridlock as soon as they approach the silkboard junction? Any comments.

This is exactly what i think.....the road leading from silkboard to madiwala is still the same....it can happen that one will face heavy traffic once exiting the elevated highway....
We will get to know the answer pretty soon....

Green Ninja with saddle bags around 7.30am? That was me - I was on my way to Pondicherry yesterday morning! I came back around noon today - short 1000km trip!

But the elevated xpressway is a dream - I covered that entire distance in only a few minutes, which normally takes 30 minis On the way back today, I found only 3 cars and 2 motorcycles on that road since nobody knew how to get on road when you're coming from the Chennai side. You actually have to take a left before the toll road begins and then take a U Turn to get on it.

No toll yet, but it is Rs.10 for two wheelers when the toll booths start functioning!

I am quite surprised with the 2 wheelers being allowed on the expressway. The road is not wide enough to accommodate all kinds of traffic, IMO!!

It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch
