  • June First Week India Launch: Suzuki Bandit 1250, will you buy in 9L on road?

    [SPECULATION]

How does 1255 CC, 95 BHP and oodles of torque sound in 9 Lac rupees? That too a practical touring machine with the trademark Japanese no-nonsense reliability. I can already see you drooling! So am I!

Come June 2010, India might just finally see a whole new era in motorcycling touring on legal and affordable high capacity bikes. Suzuki is finally done with brand building using their flagship motorcycles, the Hayabusa and the Intruder, and now it wants us to really get down and dirty with the Bandit 1250. The Bandit might prove to be a motorcycle which can be taken almost anywhere, except places where probably a KTM Adventure (to be launched later this year) would feel more at home. But never the less, gone will be days where man people (who own high capacity bikes) have to take low capacity Indian bikes and rev their socks off in order to get anywhere closer to the three digit mark across the astounding More Plains in Ladakh.
Now the question is, do you think the Bandit 1250 will be a good, practical buy at approx 9 L on road? (considering bikes like R1 and Blade are 13.5 L each on road in Delhi).
Lets speculate, debate and enjoy, but while maintaining the following etiquettes:

    • No mudslinging or getting personal

If I have a choice, I would definitely go with the Bandit 1250. Although, 95 ponies doesn't sound too good (and too powerful), but this machine has got loads of torque. A perfect machine to tour on. And 9 odd lakhs for a 1200cc+ machine is a real steal, I would add.

P.S: I just hope someday soon I am able to afford an inline-four. With all the major manufacturers coming in, the choice just got wider!

I think this makes more sense on Indian Roads..the more the power you have, the more you will explore with it ,the more will your probability of accident will increase!

Of course I am talking about those who are not experienced with Superbikes and that too on Indian roads in Indian Traffic where most of the people dont have any respect for the fellow road-travelers.

Definitely a practical option for the lucky ones who can afford.
As for me, 9 lakhs is a strech.

But its good to see more options being available.

It will be good deal - good for touring. But only a ground clearance of 135mm is not a good sing to me.

Even 95 ponnies will be tough to handles for most of the people for many years to come.

And finally people could see that Uday Chopra drove a Bandit not a ZMA in the Dhoom.

If I had 9 lacs I would have definitely booked this bike, the seating posture is great and its made for touring. Much better than spine-wrecking SBK's. Just 2 more years and the money will be where the mouth is.

I prefer the naked version though...

The 1250 will be like a big truck lugging around . Never the less it has its own charm and strength of its own .

Why dont they bring suzuki Vstrom 650 and 1000 ? . It will be killing the competition literally . 650 for 4 laks and 1000 for 6 laks should be fantastic . It even has ABS option .

I think honda cb1000r would be a better bet with more power, much better looks, and I think better service than suzuki, and not too much of a price difference. i hope these companies get into a price war though highly unlikely in the near future.

                            True touring spirit

Its definitely a good step by suzuki, when u see supersport and naked bikes flooding the market which aren't really suited for long distance because of the riding position or the wind blast issues with the naked ones...The harleys are tourers but Sport tourers give us the best of both world....SBKs,Naked and Tourers arent go anywhere kind of bikes ( good and bad roads, city traffic etc ).But bikes like Bandit make it a lot more easier to cruise on a average road with less or no issues .For Indian Conditions 95 horses seems adequate. If u can tour at 120-140kmph all day long its more then sufficient with occasional bursts as it will be safer too......More launches in this segment would really kick off the touring in India....

honestly speaking am a track freak, i dream of the "one" day and night [yeah call me a victim of branding ] But when i'm out there spending that kind of moolah i'll have to get practical.I live in new delhi a track seems a very distant dream, a set of twisties in the hills, the breathtaking views of the mighty himalyas seem more of a reality, so this torque monster seems a better option anyday. But can i really act that practically after all you buy a bike with you're heart. So all i can say is i'll ride it out and let you know.
                              in pursuit of the "one".
