    • Called up courier folks for the n'th time.
This time the thing has arrived. At least the courier chap was honest enough to say it will not be delivered same day and might take a day or 2.
Wasted no time I went there and collected it.

Packaging (for the shipping) was simply excellent. Credit goes to whoever took the pain to make it that robust.

      Initial impressions.
I'm not blown away with the phone.
      Its just ok.

GPS takes a good 5-7 minutes to get the lock on with clear skies and around 14 visible satellites. Navigation interface is very basic and cryptic at times.
I'm a first time user for this mapmyindia so maybe its because of that.
I bought this primarily for the GPS, so I'm disappointed.

I like my gmail and facebook.
Browser is a big pain, figuring out the network setting another pain.
Net is very slow (its fine on other phones)

I'm yet to find gmail app. (googles say there is nothing for this phone, the "generic" flavor fails to get installed.
      Opera keeps on crashing. (v5.1)
The other version 3.1 fails to connect.

App installation is a pain, removing them is impossible.
PC Sync s/w is a joke and is absolutely useless.

Except for the fancy bits (meters and all that) phone is not as good as expected.

PS: If anyone finds a stable browser, gmail client please post here.

        • Hi,

I bought this phone recently through XBHP. It arrived in excellent packing that even if you drop the package from 20 feet above, it would be safe.

However, I have found it difficult to use the GPS. How do I have the phone select my current location on the Map? Should I search for it first and then select the 'Set as Start' option or does the GPS find by its own?

          Please help.

          Thanks,

I am not good at explaining or technical things but will try to share some points that I know.

You don't need to search and select your current position. Phone takes a little time(usually 4-5 minutes and sometimes as long as 7-8minutes) for the satellites to align and lock on to your current position. Earlier when I didn't know that phone takes this much time to actually turn On the GPS, me too got confused when the phone didn't lock on my current location in couple of minutes. Even I thought I should search it manually and then continue.. But no, you don't need to do so. Phone will find your current location on it's own.

Once done, you can find your destination by searching it on the phone(use options Find Road, Find Intersection, Find POI, Near by POI) and set it as destination. Phone will calculate the route for you and will start guiding accordingly.

The initial time taken for activation is the confusing thing for many people.

            Hope this helps

Thanks a lot for the response Ketan. When I open the GPS application, does the phone automatically start aligning with the satellites or should I manually ask it to do ..and if so, how?

I live in a place which is not marked/mapped in Map My India :-(. Would that be a cause of concern?

                Thanks,

No need to Thank Gowri. That's all right
No, you don't need to do anything after switching on the GPS. It'll catch the signal on it's own. And even if a place isn't marked on the map(like the place you live) it won't make any difference to the device in finding your location. The pointer will show the correct position where you are.

Note: 1. Device needs open sky to catch the signal, so it may not work if you are trying it from inside your house or any building. It works best outdoors.

                  2. Follow these steps and confirm if the settings are correct.

While in the 'Phone Mode' (of the 3 modes available - Phone, Fun, Sport) Go to settings -> GPS settings.

In GPS settings, make sure the first option that is the Receiver is turned ON. If it's Off, device will not catch any GPS signal.

That's all you need to check and it should work properly.

                  3. Just sharing my experience, usually my phone's GPS used to catch the signal in about 4-5 minutes. But since yesterday it's taking very long for the same. Yesterday there was no signal at all even after 15 minutes and that too when I was out on the road. Otherwise the device has been very useful, especially during my Goa ride .

                  Good luck!

I bought my videocon Ducati v6200 yesterday. When i keep the mobile for charging initial 2 secs i can see the battery icon moving later it is stable

How do i know the battery is fully charged? Usually the icon does not move if it is fully charged.

                            Please guide
