Day 8: Leh - Khardung La - Leh

As the night before we all had decided that Aman, Vishwas & Rudra would be leaving for Hunder/Diskit and I was to ride with Spider, Motor & Alankar towards Khardung La and I would be returning from there back to Leh and the other would be proceeding ahead.

Since, the mumbai gang had reached last nite only so their permits weren't made/taken out. So, we had wait for those permits to come and then only we could leave. So, we finally got the permits in hand pretty late i.e around 12-12.30 i guess and that time we left for K-TOP. Slowly and steadily we left from there and ended up going to many wrong turns and went to weird places too amidst all these wrong routes..

Finally, after a lot of hassle and turning back many times we were finally on track..this is when we saw a BRO board saying "You are on the World's highest motorable road"..

It was somewhat cold up there and everyone's feet and hands were getting cold pretty soon so we had to take a small halt at the south pullu army camp for some tea and smokes. btw, the roads up-till south pullu were super-smooth-freshly-laid-tarmac road. So, no-one have any problem climbing up-till south pullu.

On reaching there, all got down and made their way to coffee/tea stall. Sipped to some hot hot tea and everyone had stopped shivering after that.. In-between some more ppl from mumbai joined us(not xBhpians though). They were a group of 4-5 100-150cc bikes .. out of the pack 2 were riding with pillions. Had a small chat with them and some photo session and we moved ahead.

In between south-pullu and khardung la stopped couple of times for some pics and finally reached Khardung La in some time after riding with slush/mud/snow/black ice/tourist cars/trucks.

Parked the bike and we were screaming in joy that we had finally reached the "Khardung La: Highest motorable road in the world" .. and we were extremely jubilant for our efforts taken. Took a lot of pics and then went to the souvenir shop to enquire about the goodies. No-one was there, so had to see around the place and hunt for the shop owner. Found that he was hidden inside and was counting the fresh stock which had arrived..!!

In some time he came out with the stock and within no time the shop was filled with tourists .. Everyone demanding the stuff ..!!

We were 2nd in the queque .. and were able to source for goods at a pretty comfortable stage..if we would have been late by some time then probably who knows we might not have got those t-shirts and key chains.

After buying the stuff, we head to the nearby tea stall and were deciding whether to head back or to move ahead. On everyone's decision we were all heading back to Leh. We packed our stuff and started the return journey from there..stopped once for the pics at India Gate and then non-stop till Leh for me and Motor. But, for Spidy and Alankar the they were caught up with some snowstorm+rainfall on the way so had to stay back at south-pullu for some time and they reached Leh later in the evening.

Day 9: Leh Sightseeing - Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa & Leh Market

.. Part 1

Since, this was our day off, so we all had decided for some sight-seeing in & around Leh. Enquired a bit and found the places to see/visit are the Leh Palace and Shati Stupa.

So, as usual I was sleeping till late and suddenly there was a knock on the door and it was Motor! Was surprised to see them as they were supposed to go to Pangong that day But, for me it proved to be good as I got some company while leaving for a Leh tour ..

So, in some time we all gathered near my hotel and we left for Leh Palace 1st.
