A line said by a fellow xbhpian really grabbed my attention..

He said it when someone asked for a ride on his brand new r15, It was "Dosti mujhse rakho, meri bike se nahi"..
Now I use that everytime someone asks for my bike.

Don't handle anything. Just Give it to them for a small ride IF you think they're capable enough.

I wonder why people make a fuss about sharing their big bikes with friends? Don't you Sbk owners feel bad for many of your friends who will go to the grave without riding anything big?

This is what it means to be a biker? Atleast be a good human being first, will ya'? Machines are good, but they are NOT above people. Man created the machine, not vice versa.

I'll never be that egoistic when I get my Ninja 650R. Of course, only the "capable enough" friends of mine WILL ride it, no matter who says what!
Because I love the people who were with me, when I was sad, fractured or just bored.

@ Tenhut, SVJHonda: Well done guys. I totally agree with you both... Good to see your replies...

If you arent confortable letting anyone else ride your bike you should say it directly. After all you own the bike and you are responsible for it, and you can always say that "If you crash, apart from the bike damage it will be a bigger problem if you get injured, so I am sorry but I cannot let you operate it."

If I ever get a SBK I would only give it to certain friends who know and respect the machine, riding capabilities is one thing but, knowing the machine, what it is and being a biker is what matters. I wouldn't just give it to anyone even a friend who rides well probably cause I waited really long to ride one (I never asked for a ride) and I know that patience is always rewarded.

I keep it simple. If i dont know the person then its a staright no. If i know the person then it depends on what he rides. If he has a superbike i am more than happy to let him/her ride my bike and give his opinion. If he has not ridden a superbike he has to be really close to me to take it for a spin.

friends...i am coming from a middle class family.never sat on any super bikes.my dream bike is yamaha R1. from my little ages i was dreaming that one day anyone will bought me one R1(like my rich uncle or so as a gift). After years came to know, that it will never happen as it was just a dream came from my little soft heart.after that changed my mind and worked hard for anything i like to have.then became started to own things like NOKIA N-series phone when it just launched, then home theater system such many things.and now i have pulsar 180 ug4 which is completely owned by me. every things which i bought in past poured much confidence in me to own next thing in future.

coming to point, i like to take a ride in sbk which will help to build my soul to work hard for that ride."Dream it and own it" thats my policy. but to my bad luck i have no sbk-friends even just to ask for a spin.. there is one black r1 in our city.whenever it passes away besides me, look at it and close my eyes then, record that roar in my soul. thats all i need to go on...

but, friends, here is somany guys like me. i will give my bike to all who need a drive in it because i really know their feeling..and can easily recognize a real biker.

When I get my S1000RR soon, I will let all my good friends have a short spin on it...I am fine with that!

But seriously when the bike is new, tell them its very nasty and uncontrolable and avoid.. offer a pillion ride and do a nice power wheelie.. they wont stick around asking for a ride again...
Great idea satyen. The rider can scare the hell out of the person But what if you don't know how to pull a wheelie on a superbike?

After viewing this thread, I can recollect a scene from my past that my neighbor has a Suzuki Hayabusa 1340 (2010). I guess one of his friend/relative had asked him for a mini ride in the colony. That bike really brought his heart into his mouth and he was not able to ride properly even for 50 meters. When it was time for the bike to make a U-Turn!! Oh man, he could not do it and ultimately the owner of the bike came, made the U-Turn and parked the bike safely.

To sum it up, I don't prefer to give a superbike to anyone except myself and i have to be blunt in refusing because ultimately bike is my responsibility and not anybody else's.

Man.....Friends and their eagerness to ride something free of cost and experience it to the max is many times a spoiler. I have had this bad experience when 7 years back i owned a new Bajaj Pulsar 150dtsi(I know its nowhere near SBKs). I brought it to my friend's place. he said he wanted a ride. I said do u know how to handle bikes. he said yes as he drove around scooters all day long. Then I said ok...please be careful with the front disk breaks as it locks up pretty fast...I remember his words clearly.....Abe jaana baccha samjha hai kya....so there he went slowly in front of me in his gali.....then i was waiting waiting waiting and waiting....I could even think the worst for my bike so i thought he was being pulled over by traffic police for no helmet....After 15 minutes i grew impatient then i decided to walk in the direction i saw him leaving(no phones it was 1st year of college).....Wait there he was pushing my baby all torn up no headlights, bent handle bar scratched everywhere, bent gear shifter. I was like oh my baby **** u **** u **** u **** u(in my mind).......then i said.....bhai lagi toh nahi theek hai na chal hospital.....he said.....No....its ok just get him bandages...So i ran to the medical store and got bandages and tincture iodine and painkillers.....Then i bandaged his knees(Surely needed stitches), his arms and his face.....when i was bandaging him....I asked what happened....he said...yaar bc front brake lock ho gaye at an intersection...(in my mind) bkl chu***** bola tha na fir bhi ch*** ka baccha scooter wala front hi lagayega.....Then i said hmmm yaar kya bolun ab main....r u feeling ok....bike banwane chale.....he said ok and we pushed my bike to a local dealer to get cheap replacements for my originals....It cost me 600 that day which he said he would return me in 7 days....it took me 1 and a half year to get that money back after repeatedly asking for it. So this is my hard learnt story.....So its easy to say what i would say when i get a SBK in my future here it goes.

Dost/Ristedaar :- Yaar kya sexy bike hai...Can i get a small test ride.

You :- No man...Its not like 200 or 250cc bikes.....It has got xbhp which is more than a honda CRV.....which.....mind you....is....over whelming.

Dost/Ristedaar :- Kya yaar aisi baat kardi tune.....Chal petrol k main deta hun na paise.

You :- Its not about petrol man....petrol hai hi kitne ka.....It is just that i have prepared myself for this bike for 10 years to get my hands on.....Its my hard earned money and possession....What u want is a cheap thrill on my money....If god forbid u crash it who is going to pay for the damages and really do i want a repaired SBK.....and mind u its a 10 lakhs of fragile piece of art and damages would be around 1 lakhs. (If u r not like Azhar's son - Sorry to offend but ride safely)

Dost/Ristedaar :- Paison ki kya baat kardi tune.....De denge paise.

You :- Bhai i dont need paise.....I just want my bike to be good as new.....Itne paise hain toh buy a SBK and then we will ride together. (I know i sound rude but u have to be one to handle this)

Dost/Ristedaar :- Chal ab time waste mat kar and dena chaabhi.

You :- Koi chance nahi...All you can get is pillion ride.

Then just stick to a pillion ride and scare the hell outta him.

Thats its...the key is rudeness which you hide with practical explanations....saying no is rude but u have to do it for their safety and your peace of mind.....And a sad observation.....many of us indians think that adventure is having fun neglecting all the safety precautions.....I have heard many even say that...Ki bc risk leke hi toh adventure may maza hai...helmet kisko chahiye....So SBK is a big big thing. So ride happy and do not share it like your cellphone balance.

Ask me more questions if u like and see me handle it
