I too am very possessive about my bikes, and never give it to anyone for riding, unless I'm aware of their riding skills.
It is easy to refuse a ride to friends, as they know you and understand your psyche. But when it comes to relatives, it gets tricky.
A relative of mine wanted to ride my bike when it was at around 300kms on the odo, & I refused saying its in running-in. But he wouldn't understand, & took it negatively. I told him I would offer him to ride the bike after running it in, & when I did so, he refused. I was like .
    So, it depends.

I fail to understand, what is the fun in riding a bike that is still running-in !!

I would only give my bike to someone who I'm confident knows to ride, & will take proper care.
I did give my bike to a friend, on a rainy day, simply because I knew he'd ride it well. & boy, he came back grinning & saying that I have not wasted a lakh plus on just another bike, & its worth it!

When it comes to superbikes, the same rule should apply. Though funny, Haroon's video is an apt example of how lack of skills can ruin so many things, when it comes to superbikes.
So if you ride a superbike, learn to say NO in a polite & reasoned out manner.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

I cannot be over possesive of my bikes. Give it to your friends ! Its just a bike that can be bought with money ! Seriously sharing the joy of riding these marvels is also a pleasure.
I have let my friends take the bike home overnight to return it the next day and have offered rides to many on National Highways too. To others I have just allow a quick spin like a kilometer or so. It all depends on how I percieve the rider to be between the ears. Some have skillz but are not so mature and have little regard towards untoward eventualities or consequences and get easily tempted to go bonkers on a superbike. Others hardly have any skill but are shit scared of dropping the bike or killing themselves. Some have the skills and are matured, those are the best ones to give it to.
Then there are those to whom you give your bike but they dont know how to appreciate your gesture. Those are the one you never wanna give it to.

I dont own a superbike but i have faced these situations a million times... and unfortunately always made the wrong decision. The first time was at the showroom when i bought the bike,i let my dad take the first ride who didnt touch a bike since the past 15 years+. He ripped it hard because he was amazed at the kind of power it had.
Of the 11.5k kms on the odo right now, dad did around 50-100 kms, friends did 5kms approx, my relative once crashed the bike and the expenses incurred in repairing was 15k, he paid for it, but it was brand new when the crash occured and i didnt manage to enjoy a brand new bike for long.
I didnt give my bike to a couple of people and they really took it in the most negative way possible,i took it badly and started giving it to every other guy possible, and one gentleman took it from me 4 times and went on to do stunts on it to patao some girls, i regretted that decision and im also regretting denying him the bike the 5th time because he is harassing me <_<.
Think atleast 5 times before saying yes or no. If the guy you are saying no to is a really good friend, he will understand you, or else he is not a friend.
But if the guy is an idiot who is a classmate of yours and is also a powerful... then you are about face some crappy consequences

Just learn to say "No"... it's help most of time...

and if not, try to say "No" again and again till he/she stop asking... it will defiantly work...

Now that its around 9 months of owning a fireblade, I think I've learned to say no. Initially it was tough. Got into many awkward conversations where some of my friends/close relatives wanted to take it for a spin. Heck I haven't even given it to my dad. Reason.. Am not confident on his bike riding skills. So its a risk of him getting hurt in the process.

What I did was always gave the person a pillion ride so that he understands the power of the bike. 80% of the times that did the trick. And then with close friends, this is not required as they understand what the bike means to you. One of my friends who is as sbk crazy as I am has never even sat on my bike despite me giving him the keys on the day I took delivery. Reason he gave was that he's not comfortable doing it. He knows it was my dream and he doesn't even want to take a 0.01% chance of ruining it.

most people wont ask in the first place and when some of my relatives or cousin bros ask for a ride i just say" see bro this thing cost about 9 lakhs and you can imagine the repair cost IF anything happens so do you really want to ride it!" this is usually followed by a "ohhh ok then ill just sit on it and take some pics" to which also there is a similar answer "just make sure that your shoes do not touch the back cause its very high" and sice they have the cost factor in the back of their mind most of them back off and i have to usually force them to sit on and take a pic!!!

                            respects buddy.

btw, I dont happen to own a sbk, but i presume, had i been in your place, I would not dare to hand my bike to anyone. Not because I hate damaging the bike but its because there is a hell lot of a difference between owning a bike and riding a bike. when its yours, you care about even not pushing the indicator switch too hard but when its not yours, generally, people dont care, people dont respect the bike for what it is. so unless, I know the person's riding skils, I wouldn't take a risk. (of course this applies if i had a sbk)
