Supersport bike import to India/ availability in India

    hey folks,
I recently joined this group, expecting to get some useful information from experienced guys. well I live in dubai, I am coming back to India after one & half years, where i need a supersport bike for track racing purpose. can some body help me to clear my queries regarding bike *import* to India, because i heard the duty amount is less for those who are taking *Transfer to their own country* . So I'll really appreciate if you people whoever has imported in India, can help me, whom to approach, or what are the procedures.
My 2nd question is - what price can I expect for any 600cc in India and what's the availability ? preferably 600RR/ Gsx600R. just in-case if importing process is becoming so difficult.

    Thank You.

you will not be able to import a bike under transfer of residence because to be elligible for that you will have to spend a minimum of 2 years outside india.....

the availability of a legal 600 supersports machine is very less next to impossible.... however as you might know that hyosung have already launched their GT650R in India at a price point of 4.75lakhs and Kawa will be bringing in Ninja 650 in a couple of monhts...
an illegal 600 will be available at a price range of around 3-8 lakhs depending on the model year, kms done and the condition of the bike...

          Hi Zafar,
First you need to stay abroad for atleast 2 years & own a bike there for atleast 1 year & then only you can import a bike under TR(transfer of residency) & you will get depriciation upto 70% depending upon the no. Of years you own the bike there.for eg:-10% for 1 year,20% for 2 years & so on..& you cannot sell your bike for atleast 2 years here in india after importing the bike. There are no official 600rr or GSXR600 available in india but hyosung has just recently launched GT650r & kawasaki is about to launch ER6F/650R in india.

          good luck.

            @ Anshumanster & Zafar.
The personal importation of bike into India is still a complicated, time-consuming & patience-testing affair. As for details on importation, as of today, the rules & requirements still remain as posted here:

@ entsurgeon- Whatever you have mentioned in your reply to vivekjayasheel is correct with the exception of the fact that both foreigners & NRIs are allowed to temporarily import bikes/car & keep it in India for 6 months (extendable to max 1 year). Details posted here:

              Hey man,

That color is the 09 R6. Unless your brother changed the plastics. I know the past and present history of the R6, hence the comment.
Anyway, hope you find answers to your questions.

I don't know about how old the vehicle or limit of the vehicle but since the maximum depriciation amount is 70% so you will get 70% depriciation according to the amount for which you bought the vehicle.

the max 70% depreciation is on the showroom price of the vehicle. so even if you have bought a pre owned vehicle the depreciation will be calculated on the price mentioned in the kellys blue book (used by most import offices)..

Normally how much time does it take to procure an NOC from Bangalore RTO for transfer to another state, if the imported bike is legal?
Who needs more than 70 bhp when you don't need to slow down for the corners?

                            Hi,
I am going abroad (china) for a business trip for 3 years. I intend to purchase a cbr250rr or the cbr400rr there. After the period of 3 years, can i bring along the bike here?

What will be the total expenses if suppose i buy it for 200000 and its showroom cost was 500000. Just to highlight, both the bikes are not into production. What can I do?

                            Regards

Hi guys, I just wanted to know that there is a 2005-06 model cbr 600 in UK, cost 2800 gbp. Now if i have to bring that bike in india how much it would cost me including all fares rather than getting the bike on transfer of residency.
                              regards...

Hi All, I want to import BMW G650GS, I had a talk with BMW Navnet Mumbai, but they said they can only import F650GS, F700GS and F800GS but not G650GS. I want to use the bike motstly for touring, I weighs only 60KG, so G650GS is the only Touring Adventure bike which is suitable for me. I have gone through many reviews on web and youtube, it has got good mileage and it is light weight, feels like very good for Indian roads. Is there anyone in Pune or Mumbai who is trusty importer of foreign bikes ?
