Import duties
Mostly bikes are imported in out country, one is completely build bikes and other is parts are imported and assembled in our country. Please advise what are duties payable on second type of bikes , means bike parts imported and assembled in India.vijay super-1981,vespa1984,herohonda1988,herohondasleek1989,su zuki shaolin1994,herohondacbz2000,suzukiferro2000,honda unicorn2004,kawasaki-bajaj eliminator2005,rtr1802010

Re: Import duties
bringing parts and assembling them here on individual basis is not legal. such bikes are called baggage bikes and were rampant a decade ago.Originally posted by bhadoriabtp View PostMostly bikes are imported in out country, one is completely build bikes and other is parts are imported and assembled in our country. stay away from idea as such a bike will not be registered by any rto anywhere in india as she will lack necessary documents required and could be furnished only for the bikes imported fully assembled.
if you dont intend to use such a bike on road then you anyway dont need to go through this whole exercise. also newer trade treaties ensure that a lot of bikes are now being sold officially in india at nominal import duties and priced almost at par with international prices which in many cases are even lower than duties on baggage bikes.
why exactly would you go for this whole exercise in today s age?

Re: Importing a Superbike in India
I am discussing bikes imported by manufacturers as parts and assembled here in India such as DSK-BANELLY OR DSK-HOYSAUNG bikes . These bikes are attracting how much import duties .vijay super-1981,vespa1984,herohonda1988,herohondasleek1989,su zuki shaolin1994,herohondacbz2000,suzukiferro2000,honda unicorn2004,kawasaki-bajaj eliminator2005,rtr1802010

such bikes are called CKD ( completely knocked down) or SKD ( semi knocked down) bikes.
theres no point inconsidering their import duties as final prices will depend on a lot of factors. for the record, most of the parts/spares of automobiles attracted 29% duty until few yrs back. rates may have changed in tune of this figure. however in case of manufacturers the scenario changes. how much they are investing , what sops are they getting from governments, free trade agreements between the nation of origin and india etc.
for the comparison here are indicative prices of a few popular bikes in india and their native countries-
harley fatboy - @ 20,500usd.( approx 13.5L) in usa. ex showroom delhi- less than 16L they are assembling her in their indian plant.
ducati 959 in italy- @19k usd/15k pounds ( approx. 12.5-13L) ex showroom delhi around 15.5 L they are importing her completely built up from thailand.
2017 kawasaki zx10r msrp in usa @15.5k usd ( approx 10L + local taxes pushing her to around 12L). ex delhi- 17.5L ish.
even ninja h2r ( the non street legal 300hp version) which IIRC is a CBU ( completely built unit that otherwise attracts 230% duties including surcharges.) retails at 55k usd in japan ( 35L-ish )and is 35.5L ex delhi.
in contrast a mercedes c class c220d avantegarde retails for 44k+ usd ( 25L-ish) in europe with more features than the indian version whereas in india she retails at 50L on road.
i hope that clears some air.Last edited by entsurgeon; 05-30-2017, 01:33 PM.

Sir, you have given very good useful information, I specific question is about a Korean company selling good cruisers bikes at reasonable rates, how much duties will be applicable to these bikes .Originally posted by entsurgeon View Post
Re: Importing a Superbike in India
Just get in touch with cargo mover in the city. They will give you all details and rough estimate of the duty to be paid on depreciated value. The duty does not work out to be cheap. That is 180% of depreciated value. Finally you may drop the idea of getting the bike to India.Originally posted by muntaha View PostHi!!

The same duty is applicable in India for imported Assembled Bikes outside country.
The cheapest route is Thailand Manufactured and assembled, with least duty about 100% or 80% or so, not exact figure. Advantage Ducati and BMW bike prices in India, are cheaper than YAMAHA, APRILA, assembled in JAPAN & ITALY.
(Govt has MOU with Thailand on relaxed import duty)Last edited by mknaidu11; 06-01-2017, 09:46 AM.Avoid noise pollution. Avoid honking.

Re: Importing a Superbike in India
it would be better if you could divulge why do you wish to know this. for the record hyosung gt 650r retails at around 6500$ in korea- the country of origin( although its an original suzuki design n product). in india the ex showroom price is around 5L ( 8k USD.) the duties maybe in tune of 35% by reverse calculation but this would not apply to an individual importer if thats why you are asking.Originally posted by bhadoriabtp View PostSir, you have given very good useful information, I specific question is about a Korean company selling good cruisers bikes at reasonable rates, how much duties will be applicable to these bikes .
used bikes have different and much expensive duty structure.Last edited by entsurgeon; 06-01-2017, 12:22 PM.

Re: Importing a Superbike in India
Sir, I want to purchase a Korean cruiser bike , if duties are higher then I will get product of really of lesser value at higher price . This is the reason of knowing all these duties .general import and custom duties are 108% on completely build bikes except Thailand assembled as advised by you and other fellows . For example if Korean imported bike is sold here for 3L and import and custom duties are of rs1.5L then actual value of product is rs1.5L .Originally posted by entsurgeon View Postit would be better if you could divulge why do you wish to know this. for the record hyosung gt 650r retails at around 6500$ in korea- the country of origin( although its an original suzuki design n product). in india the ex showroom price is around 5L ( 8k USD.) the duties maybe in tune of 35% by reverse calculation but this would not apply to an individual importer if thats why you are asking.

Re: Importing a Superbike in India
Taxes are integral part of price of any stuff.
It doesn't matters what is % of duty on any bike. Whats its landing price here is what dictates its price in used market. If want a hyosung gt650r, you can get it for less than 2L . Its a very under rated bike in india.
