The best thing about the 796 is the single side swingarm. Spectacular it looks. Waiting to hear more from you.

    +1 on all the gear.
Thanks! Have been in awe of your new R1 too and have to say am jealous

i was at the dealer today to check out the bike, riding position seems similar to fz . i was surprised to see aircooled engines on the bike with small oil coollers . which made me feel it was not really enough for the indian summers,i have heard complaints about this already from plp from durban,za.but ducati knows whats its doing so no probs.
what really blew my mind was the 1198sp .the manager was kind enough to let me sit on the sbk. i was saving the 7.5l but ill put some more cash to the kitty and get the 848 for 15lakhs . that i felt was really worth the money.
    Thanks Anirudh!

If one has the moolah, 1198SP and the Diavel are the ones to go for in Ducati. Both are just out of the world!!

And riding position - you mean similar to FZ1? I found the FZ1 ergonomics better as in upright seat positioning much more vertically placed footpegs than the monster.

Btw offlate I'm not able to follow the CBR250 thread, what happened to your CBR250? Did you get one?
    Thanks Gaurav!

It sure came as a surprise to everybody including myself. The hunt for a bike started mid last year. The first choice was the monster since i found it to be the most practical for my type of riding and the only dealer available was in Mumbai. Then I was warned about registration hassles, after sales (me being in Bangalore) and all that stuff and had to halt the purchasing plan. Besides I was about to ride in India after a gap of 3 years and was not sure if I would be able to handle a big bike. So I thought of booking the baby Ninja and upgrade probably a year later. And then came along the CBR 250R. Booked it thinking along the same lines of upgrading later. That was the plan all along until news of Ducati opening the showroom in Bangalore hit my ears. I called the manager and he was generous enough to show me the bike and assured me that the hesitation will be natural as the conditions are different here but if you want to go for one go with your heart. And what would you feel if you are riding a CBR/Ninja and a Monster passes by?

That's the background. I cancelled the CBR in March itself after which I booked the Monster

And you have a good taste in riding gear too - Italian gear for the Italian Monster!
Thanks Rahul! I got a lot of help with regards to selecting the gear from this forum including you

Great its a superb bike to own. My fav of all the bikes currently available in India. 7lakh on-road is the correct price for this bike (Ducati is charging premium for its brand) and I will buy one at that price.

Aah! If wishes were horses...the prices have been increased now for all the models. The monster now costs 10L on road Bangalore. Was lucky to make the payment early else would have ended up paying that price.

I do take the gear very seriously.

Wife is not comfortable on the rear seat and the bike comes without grab handles. Have ordered them. Another option is to go for a touring seat.

But wife accompanies me only for small city rides but the intent is to definitely go around places. In that case, will have to go for a touring seat. Not now but a few months down the line...

ducati is indeed charging a massive premium on its bikes .848 evo costs 5.7l in usa ,and in india 15lakhs, whats the excess for ??
ps- the massive rent for the lavelle road showroom is paid by the bike buyers only, why such a premium place when they sell only few bikes ,showroom is become sort of a museum for commuters. thank god they didnt open shop in ub city mall.

Every manufacturer does that. If one has to ride in India, one has to pay what it costs here.

Read that you are looking for a bike cover.

                          See this - Covers

Bluevolt has one for his ninja and it comes with a heat shield for the exhaust area. It's thick, pretty heavy and very durable. You can even lock the cover to the wheels so no pesky kid will lift the cover and play mischief with the bike. Oh yeah, he has the rainex variant.

IIRC, Performance Racing Store used to sell them.

                            Italians...

"What the hell is that thing" was my first reaction when I first saw the Ducati Monstro when i was a kid. The Hunky looks always fascinated me and made me think that it was the fastest bike. The Ducati line up Still fascinates me. Lol.
Well I must say sir, that is one awesome bike, no nonsense bike. Does what its meant to do and does it in style. Congrats. I too am contemplating a Monster 796 by year end. Lets see, if I do, well, i'll be fulfilling my childhood dream.
A fact -- It takes more love to share the pillion seat, than to share the bed.

I dont think so. Their site only lists Nelson Rigg and Silvertech, while Oxford has names such as Rainex, stormex, etc.

As long as the cover is not thin like those used for car's it should be OK. Cos the thin ones tear pretty easily.

The Oxford ones are like tarpaulins.
