Thanks for all the great wishes and a Happy New Year to all you guys!
Just got back from Dubai. Have to say it was a huge disappointment in terms of choice and deals. Had to search high and low for good gear and ended up paying almost on par with Bombay prices if not more. Definitely not worth the trip, but I made the most I could of the situation.
Was looking for ARAI RX7 series helmets but the only dealer had old stock and not in my size, so ended up with an AGV GP Tech Combat Black - same one Rossi uses. Feels pretty good and looks nice IMO
Wanted a Dainese 2 piece leather suit but the Dainese dealer there was also the Ducati dealer and all the suits were branded like a Ducati had puked all over them. So picked up a Shift "Vantage" leather jacket and a sweet pair of Buel racing leather pants. I did get a nice set of Dainese inner wear though - like a pair of inner shorts but with full protection for the family jewels, thighs and tailbone.
Puma V3 GTX boots and R&G Carbon Kevlar Gloves were also pretty good buys I think.
Also picked up FOX elbow and knee guards for when I don't want to be fully leathered up.
I also picked up a FOX Titan Chest and Back Protector. However, I think this was a bit of overkill on my part as the Shift jacket already has all the protection anyways, so if anyone is interested, let me know and we can work something out.
Also, Dubai has absolutely nothing for the Blade. Just got some cosmetic stuff like a double bubble screen and rear spools for the stand. The Akra slip on was the only one I could find there and it cost as much as it would in Mumbai, which made no sense. Total disappointment.
Will put up pics of all the gear soon, but I think I'm finally ready to ride!

If the jacket and pants are not matchable (attach to form a secure suit) you've made a mistake.Originally posted by boomshiva View Post

The protectors that come in the jacket are not as good as the external back protector, keep it.
Why carry a screen back, they are dirt cheap here itself?
Dubai doesn't have a big biking scene. Singapore is far better.sigpic StreetFighter

Yeah I guess I made a mistake then. Was being guided by a biker friend there but turns out he wasn't that well informed himself and being a newbie, I got pretty shafted. Also realise I overpaid for a lot of the stuff which I could have just gotten here or ordered online. My mistake. You live and learn...

Dainese are horribly overpriced everywhere but the US. A friend bought a carbon Dainese bag for 25k from Malaysia. I bought a similar one from Harley Davidson in Mumbai for 7k.Originally posted by boomshiva View PostYeah I guess I made a mistake then. But for jackets and suits, there are very few that can match up.sigpic StreetFighter

+100 on what streetfighter said about the suit. The pant and jacket should have a zipper attachment so that your back is covered in case of a fall and a good back protector is also something you should get with the jacket. The suit should fit you like a second skin. Its best to try out the leather suits prior to purchase to chek fit and comfort but I understand that is not always an option. You could also check RS Taichi gear and alpinestar. I beleive alpinestart is available in India. They make good stuff. I have a dainese jacket and pant that can be zipped together to make a suit and have inserted a good back protector for extra protection.RX 100

I am sorry but maybe I missed something..... But most jackets come with soft foam back protectors, if possible its best to change that to a medium density foam with hard outer shell back protector but something is better than nothing.... the above comments are for people still wanting to or thinking of buying gear.... just some points to keep in mind.RX 100

Dude dont worry nothing goes to waste. wear what you have that is still good gear.Originally posted by boomshiva View PostAlready spent over a lakh so going to make the most of it and shop a lot more carefully in a couple of years. The Buell pants can be zipped so maybe I'll look for a suitable jacket in a while. What's done is done. Right now I just want to ride

Surprisingly his jacket has nothing for the back. But he got a one piece chest and back protector.Originally posted by Sarge View PostI am sorry but maybe I missed something..... The medium density foam protectors are pretty useless IMO. And it's preferable to strap on the back protector to one's body rather than insert it into the back pocket; especially when the jackets and suits most wear are not perfectly snug against the back.sigpic StreetFighter

Correct if the jacket is loose then having a back protector inserted into the back pocket is useless as it will not hold its position in case of a spill. Its better to have the chest and back protector on the body then.Originally posted by Streetfighter View Post.
