    Hey Shiv, I do not suggest that either, its just that there are a lot members who must b thinking in the same direction as i am right now.. i just need a few clarifications thats about it. i have heards that 60 out of 100 bike (or may b more) which are currently ridden on roads are illegal (I MAY BE WRONG), but i am in a dilemma whether to go for a illegal bike or shed out a few 100Ks more (which i cannot) to fulfill this passion..

    Hey buddy, you know what, one of my uncles (actually, dad's chaddi buddy) is a DRI (Directorate Of Revenue Intelligence) official (Even i wish to be one someday). So give me your address, i will send him to you after you buy a gray and you will come to know what happens with a gray bike.
    Dont worry, i wont, btw, he was once telling me about a hayabusa 2004 that he confiscated from a karjat farmhouse, belonged to a high profiled neta (i cant reveal the name), they also beat up the owner if they offer bribes, and the owner had to finally shell out 12 lacs, just for fine, duties etc. and additional 30K for offering bribe.
    And yes, its not wise to put up such posts on xbhp, as i guess there may be sniffers too on xbhp. So be careful of what you erite, can be used as a proof against you someday.

      As you are already set to pay 5 lacs(even for grey market bike) and then some more (bribe + some registration) why dont you add 2.5lacs in it. ... in 7.5 lacks you definitely can get used+legal 600(inline 4) bike. our Indian roads are not that much developed where you can use full power of liter class bike(yet good to have 1000+cc) but 60 0cc(inline 4) will be much better and as you said you are new to sports bike segment you will even learn that how to handle and use these bikes. and after some years you can sell and add some more vitamin M and can fulfill your liter class thrust..

      in short

      Illegal = DRI fear + Bike seizure fear + Bribes + Bounded in boundries + Selling problem
      Legal = Zooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooom

I just read in a recent news that one of the guy here in Mysore got a new R1 from the showroom here, does it still add to that list of grey bikes or what. . ? Have you watched the movie DHOOM?
              Uday Chopra used to sell grey bikes in it.

              Basically, all bikes bought from anywhere apart from the showroom are grey. (for new bikes)
              All bikes bought through dealers without proper papers and name transfer are grey. (second hand)

                Gray bikes are not model specific. R1 bought from a showroom with paperwork of proper import duties paid, is a fully legal bike.
                Whereas an R1 bought from chor bazaar in mumbai without any proper documents is a gray bike.
                In short gray means illegal, that's all about it.

                  Now I got it. . . Thanks for the help and also buying a second hand R1 with all the correct papers (i.e., a guy bought an R1 previously from a showroom in the same place and selling it to another person in the same place or different state/district qualifies it to be a street legal bike right) unless and until it's not imported from other countries with proper documents. . .

                  Cheers!!!

                      what's that, model specific. . ? Does it mean the bike doesn't contain the regular stock R1 and/or it's tuned or something else like that. . ? Do we get these kind of superbikes there in so called chor bazaar. . ? Great I am amazed to see people spend so much lakhs to buy a super bike which will end up Impounded. . . What a dirty way to waste your money. . . This is the first time I have come across such a thing, good to know and keep these things in mind so it'll be useful in the future. . . Thank you. . .

                        Well as you asked, "are R1, CBR etc gray bikes" so i said a gray bike is not model specific, any imported bike can be a gray bike, irrespective of what model or make it is

                          The import has to be a new motorcycle I believe. Used bikes are not allowed right?
