I have been having this doubt for quite some time now, can you tell me what exactly is this 130% tax for imports, I mean is that means that we need to pay 130% of the bike's normal price or something else, . ?

Cheers!!!

That's right, it's based on bike's price if new and if used, then bike's depreciated price aka Written Down Value (WDV)

I think going to nearby Suzuki showroom will clear all the doubts..... I regularly see Suzuki Superbikes on sunday mornings in my city..

Vijay Mallya's Yacht for instance would attract 33% duty, so would Ambani pay the same % for his A319 private jet... While we need to pay a 130% import duty to own a 600cc bike? All when there is no Indian manufacturer making anything even close to 600cc...

Makes me think its a HD-Mango (800cc) deal that the govt did... Why is it always the middle that takes the hit?

We can't do anything about this brother.. Govt has laws from ancient times and whenever they do some changes, its for the worse..
Making a litre class bike legal and even 1400cc+ bikes, but the bikes which are more suitable are banned.. They say to protect indian companies.. Thats BS.. Its some decade early when a indian company would make a 600-800cc class bike of its own..

ps.. If relatively new comers can bring out their middle weights.. Then i din't understand why the big japs not doing the same.. Only kawasaki has an offering and its been great success for them.. Yammi, suzuki suck in this regard.. They have failed to capture the market that developing at a very fast pace..

Agree cent percent...

If the govt just allowed 600cc foreign entrants... i'm sure it'll fuel better business for Indian companies, firstly foreign brands would need Indian Company's support & network, that paves a way for forming strong partnerships and businesses through opening of outlets, manufacturing units, sharing of technologies etc... look at Thailand... they allow imports, enabling them to power entire South & South East Asia through manufacturing those very imports. Secondly, Indian companies are bound to be more competitive in the world market by pushing themselves to stand competition with other foreign 600 manufacturers if allowed in India... its a fundamental of what is called 'Healthy Competition' and is absolutely a necessity of positive global growth... (OT - Indian IT was allowed - Foriegn biggies came and setup their infrastructure through which millions of people have jobs, while we also see a lot of upcoming creative IT ventures by Indians...) I've had enough actually of this separatist attitude that we've been ruled with... It probably worked for a time bygone but now its just a major restriction when it comes to global growth or even internal better living standards. I would even be willing to pay a 150% duty if I knew that taxes are used in the best manner possible but that is just fiction also. I am a guy who lives to ride... in my deathbed I want to smile because I rode what I want and explored of this world what I need... My time for an upgrade comes 2014, if I cannot get the ride I want by early 2015, then i'm going grey market or even out of my country for good - not paying taxes to a worthless mechanism that gives absolutely no dividends. Call me a selfish greedy f**k for all I care.

Vykier.. the old hags running the Indian government don't care..
lets just hope that with more companies coming with the products in this category, these useless laws might see some modifications..

Okay... since 600cc 's are such a Bit*h @ss process that resembles more of wading through a tub of phlegm than a bike buying experience... It has forced me to upgrade my sights and train for a bigger gun. I was looking at a 600 but now have officially fallen in absolute hypnotized love with the Ninja 1000 2014.

I'm positively buying thisss.... Drrrooooooooooooooooolllllllllll !!!!!!!!!! Please tell me this one's okay for my country's laws and regulations?? *Hands together on my knees.

man you are on roll
really if you can buy this machine, then go for it.. well, if this isn't launched till then, it would be very hard for you to get one.. same old hefty tax thing..
i personally like Sports Tourer's n naked category bikes more than the super sports category.. these are more comfortable to ride.
also you can check the Kawasaki India page.. i think they will launch a Z-Series bike in November..

Dunno about this mate... Our country doesn't even allow legitimate mid weights from a fear if ruining local businesses (when there are no local businesses in the mid weight category)... Wonder what the laws for 2 strokers are? Trust the Neanderthal laws of the country will not allow it legally... Someone with better knowledge pls reply.

I doubt if there is any 2 stroke left that complies to BS3/4 norms. One of the reasons they were taken off from Indian market was this

So you mean even if you end up paying 130% duty and getting it homologated, one would still have the need to know the right people to avoid trouble?

You need to know from where to import, which dock to land on to, which dept of DRI would get it checked, etc etc.
