Yeah. There are 2 different models of Ninja 650 in the above pictures. The one on the left (Lime Green) is 2011 model and one on the right (Metallic Green) is the 2012 model.

Neither. The one with the rider wearing the kawasaki jacket is the 2012 model(same as the one that Sachinnair has bought), the other one with rider wearing coolers is the previous one(probably the first model released here). The 2013 is a bit different.

This is a never ending affair I am having with Midori. Absolutely in love with the Ninja 650. Few noticeable and surprising things include the tire pressure has not dropped even by 1 psi in the past 5 months of riding, I have never filled air because whenever I go to fill air the air pump attendant says that tire pressure is normal Secondly, the chain has not been touched by the KTM mechanic till date because there is no chain lag and there has been no requirement to tighten the chain even after 15K kms of riding. I am mighty impressed overall as this is my first big bike experience and I am glad it is turning out to be a good one

Coming to the rides, I think there has not been a single weekend till date from the time I bought Ninja that I have stayed at home. Although I do get a lot of stick at home for staying away, I must say I am having the time of my life with Midori. Be it a short breakfast ride or long weekend run, I have manage to sneak out every weekend. I think most of us do this but I have never been so addicted to riding a motorcycle as I am as of today.

With rains coming soon, I think I ll give Midori a much needed rest in between and sometime take my ZMR out now.

Two of my very close friends and fellow Xbhpians got their Ninja 300 delivered and we decided to go on a short run in ride to Igatpuri and back. For a short run, this has to be my favorite place as the roads are perfect to ride with good amount of twists both ways! Sharing the pictures below which we clicked during this ride. @Sachinnair : gr8 fotos there sachin... dunno about others but i must be one of the most frequent visitors of ur thread here (and all other threads that talk about the kwanja)
every other day i watch the fotos from post #1, read ur transcripts & go right till the end... couple of days later, i do the same thing all over again...
i must compliment u for the empathy & attachment u've grown & shown towards ur ride...
i have loads of questions & stuff to discuss about the kwanja but perhaps the time is not right...

How is scala rider. I see that you have been using it.. Put a review...of the same. will be helpful.

Moreover which variety of petrol are you using for the 650 or the 300 more so..? Any kind of octane booster?

I have been using normal fuel for Ninja 650 from the time I have purchased it. N650 has a low compression ratio of 10.8:1 and in manual 87 octance or more is mentioned so normal fuel works perfectly fine.

Short Review of Scala G9:
Pro's:

• Flash-Pairing with other Scala G9 devices in 1 sec.
• One + 8 Intercom feature & 4-Way Intercom Conferencing: 2 bikers and their passengers or 3 separate bikers (Not Used yet)
• Range - Up to 1.6 kms (This is the most impressive feature, you can communicate with your fellow biker up to 1.6 kms with flip up antenna for extended range)
• Music - (No Complaints what so ever, Clear and Very Audible sound. Changing songs & increasing / decreasing volume is very easy.)
• Phone Calls - Another feature where Scala Excels, I have picked up phone calls while riding and it is almost impossible for others to make out that you are actually riding a bike. The Auto Volume adjustment is another feather in the cap, if your speed increases Scala automatically increases the volume of the speakers and it reduces back to normal once you slow down the speed. You have Emergency HOT DIAL feature, this is another handy feature where in you can save one number which you can call by Pressing both A & B buttons simultaneously.
• Wired Mic - Scala comes with a wired mic which can be fitted directly inside the helmet right in front of your mouth so that's cool because you no longer have the boom mic sticking outside.
• Waterproof & Dust-proof - I have used it so far only once in moderate rains and it worked seamlessly. So no issues noticed so far when it comes to riding in rain.
• Battery Life - Excellent battery life, I have continuously chatted with one of my co riders in a ride for close to 20 hours with one charge for 2 hours in between using portable charger. It has very impressive battery life!
• Installation - Not very difficult but not that easy either. My friend installed it for me as I was not comfortable installing it.

Con's:

• Radio: It's got a built in radio however the reception is not that great. So for instance, since my phone battery was almost dead, I decided to listen to radio to which I had already programmed the stations but because there was not a good network where I had been it randomly auto picks the station with strongest signal and still it does not play well. Lot of noise in between and FM radio is where Scala can definitely improve.
• Switching it on: You have to press the power switch for 6 seconds to switch it on. But sometimes it does not start in first attempt and you have to press it the second time to start it. Not a big problem but still a Con.
• Voice Command: For hand's free operation, you have voice command feature in Scala where in you can say Music On, Radio On or Intercom On and Scala will process your voice command and do that function but all these looks good only in paper. I absolutely hate this feature because if I pause the music in between during break to talk to anyone, it starts taking commands and switching on music disturbing my entire conversation. Hence, I have disabled this feature as I anyways use the buttons to operate. Scala needs to work on improving the Voice Command and I think they should give an option to switch off voice command from the device rather than user logging into online community to switch it off.

Verdict - If you spend a lot of your time travelling on bike, if you tour a lot, if you want the ease to pick up calls, listen music without any hassles, if you like to talk to other riders / pillion on intercom then look no further than Scala G9 as it's worth it. I am very happy with my purchase and it serves the purpose.

• Chassis & Frame is different for current N650, it makes the bike much more narrower and easy to reach the ground.
• Entire body of the bike is changed, the fairings and the design is completely different than the old model.
• Power delivery has been changed in the current N650, it is much more linear compared to the previous model. Previous model from what I have heard has less low end grunt and you get a power kick post 4K rpm which is more exciting although I would prefer the linear power delivery
• Speedometer is different compared to the old one and it was lot more features comparatively like Eco Mode in case your riding in economy, fuel range, Average per litre, etc. Althought the old one also looks nice in all digital Moto GP format.
• Tank capacity is 0.5 Litres more in the new bike and going by ownership experience the current model delivers better fuel efficiency too. Many of the current lot get between 24-26 kmpl whereas old model gives between 18-20 kmpl.
• Current model has split seat and old model does not have split seat.

• Good thing about previous model was Ground Clearance of 145mm which is reduced in current model to 130mm

Keeping everything aside, if you are getting a good deal for the old model which is well maintained please go for it. Ninja is a Ninja be it old model or new model and it will not disappoint
