  • Importing in india, has anything changed??

    Fello Bikers,

I have gone through a few postings here about importing a bike in India. I have 2 Bikes, Suzuki GSXR-600 and a Harley Davidson 883. I am originally from Pune and now live in San Jose California. I seriously want to get my Bikes to pune and hit the roads in India on them.

From what i understand, there are more complications when you are not doing a TR. I am NOT moving to Pune for good, but i still want to get my bikes there so when i am on my vacation i can ride them. Is it possible, has anyone done this before?? Can you please provide me with some details as to what i need and should do. I want to do everything legal, any information would be really appreciated.

    Best regards,
    Prashant

I'm sure you can get them on vacation like a lot of cars on "CARNET" we've seen in Bombay. I don't know if its called the same for bikes. I doubt you would be allowed to get 2 bike though.

This is one of the major query I have too. One of my friend is planning to bring down his ZX10R from California and he's been pestering me regarding this.Could someone throw light on all the formalities required, the kind of tax charged,(If its owned for 2 years in the US there is a separate table for being taxed) and all the other hidden charges. This tax has been varying, and getting latest information for the above query, off the net has been difficult.

i recently came across some second bikes for sale in US.
They are for extremely less ranging from USD 550 to 3500..

looks very impressive & excellent condition.. I was just wondering is it possible to import them. Even though if i consider duty of 100% on used vehicle it will be a wonderful deal..

          E.g :
05 Suzuki GSX 1300 R Hayabusa for Sale at Bikez Free Motorcycle Classifieds
04 Yamaha YZF-R1 for Sale at Bikez Free Motorcycle Classifieds

07 Kawasaki Ninja 500R for Sale at Bikez Free Motorcycle Classifieds

          R6 for 550 USD
06 Yamaha YZF-R6 for Sale at Bikez Free Motorcycle Classifieds

          Awesome deal.
05 Honda CBR 1000 RR for Sale at Bikez Free Motorcycle Classifieds

          who wont want this
06 Yamaha YZF-R1 for Sale at Bikez Free Motorcycle Classifieds

now this ninja 500 is for a rate of peanuts
07 Kawasaki Ninja 500R for Sale at Bikez Free Motorcycle Classifieds

Even considering 100% duty, the price is just terrific.

I am really confused or please clarify if my thoughts are making any sense . How can it be done, if at all its possible.

link dosent seem to be working

no matter how much u buy the bike for 100$ or 10000$ or even 1$ u pay tax based on the new price of the bike minus depreciation and not on what u have bought.

if u want information or CARnet the best person to ask would be HAROON who has good info on this matter

                    u see

say the bike u bought was for 10$ it wouldnt matter cause when u come to india they have a book with all the prices of the bike when bought new for any year they would have prices for a 1999 cbr or 1998 ninja etc etc upto till 2009 models

so then they calculate depreciation from that year till now i dont remember the formula
so u will end up paying quite a lot

                        Guys,

There are a ton of bikes here in the US that people are selling for what you may call a dream price or cheapo. I have been through this exercise a few times and my advice to you is, unless you have someone living here in the USA, who can personally go and check the bike out, take it to the local dealership and get the safety inspection done and make sure all papers are right,
                        - DON'T BUY IT ONLINE.
                        - DO NOT GET INTO SCAMS
                        - DONT PAY ANYONE ANY MONEY THROUGH WIRE TRANSFER
                        - DONT PAY ANYONE MONEY THROUGH WESTERN UNION
                        - HELL DONT PAY ANY MONEY UNLESS EVERYTHING IS CHECKED OUT BY ANYONE WHOM YOU TRUST

I have bought so far 6/7 used bikes and its a hellish job, but is certainly worth it. You can get a beautiful bike for a much less value than a new one, some cases with a ton of modifications. Please let me know if you need any help within the San Francisco bay area in California, i will be glad to help.

Please please read this carefully and DONT BUY ANY motorcycle unless someone close to you can inspect and that person should be the one you COMPLETELY TRUST.

                          @prasujoshi,
that was excellent piece of info .! thnx a lot buddy for being so kind man..

                          @all
can someone tell me an estimate of price importing any one of the machines. So can get a judgment of clarifications..
for an instance, what could be the tentative breakup of expenses in getting this R6 to India considering its price. Just a rough list of pricing could help me understanding this..

                            I was thinking about this
Efficient motorcycle classifieds with free ads. Sections for every country of the world.

yesterday&today I see a thread on it. Now can someone please comment on this? I have written to the owner who says he has now shifted to London&the bike is in the custody of a shipping company who can ship it free of charge!
Now, whenever something sounds too good to be true (2800 USD), it mostly is!
Here is the link to another such bike priced too low: http://www.bikez.biz/ads/showad.php?...0_rr_fireblade
