Thanks for clarifying that. Last couple of days, my brains were playing host to the thought of importing a Aprilia RS 125 Now I can console myself Even though I have the money, its legally not possible

Hey guys.. I've been going through this whole importing rules and regulations in absolute detail for 2 years now.. I've been to Chennai, Cochin and Mumbai to the customs departments and finding out the exact procedure to get myself a car from UAE..

After these 2 painful years I have just decided not to get the car because it does not make any sense to a normal human being.. I bought the car for around 2 lac INR in UAE and can ship it down to India. On arrival at the port I have to go to the customs office and claim it.. Then two officials will inspect, evaluate the car and calculate the worth of the car according to the depreciation method.. After they have arrived at a figure I have to pay 150% of the evaluated price as custom duty.. After that is the headache of running around the RTO to get it the road worthiness certificate and registeration...

Considering the car was sold for 30 lacs from showroom and over a period of 10-12 years has depreciated to 15 lacs, I would have to pay 22,50,000 rupees only as custom duty.. Add another 2-3 lacs for registeration and road tax... So a car I bought for 2 lacs sums up to 28-29 lac rupees on road in India.... Does that make any sense or is it considered humanly sane??

I cancelled the whole imprt plan and just kept the car parked there... I rather spend 50k and go to Dubai once or twice a year and enjoy driving it there...
