As far as I remember, the WET weight of the S1000 came in at a little of 200 kgs.. just about 20 kgs lesser than the R1. So 20 kgs lesser, and 20 bhp more..

Verdict: RIP Japanese liter bikes, RSV, 1198. Game over. This truly is a segment altering product. I don't want to get too excited when I say this, but I think this can be compared to the 98 R1, or the Gixxer K1/K3. Nothing was the same afterwards.
Pls post that link with the dyno figures ross !

And again power ain t everythin right ?! Remember the 05 zx 10r ill handling mad max bike ! MCN s Trevor Franklin is doin a group test of the s1000rr and the japs ! results will be out this wednesday or thursday on MCN ! But still he has given hints that the s1000rr is bloody impressive but still the drive of the R1 around the corners is just too good !
    BAYLISSTIC !!!!

BMW always has had asymmetrical front headlights. Im pretty sure the people wanting to just look good wont buy this bike. This bike is built for corners, not using it like it was meant to would just be wastage of an incredible machine.
Spot on ! Specs are impressive, and the styling is very BMW too.

        Got this from Akrapovic

        BMW S1000RR:

        2009 YZF-R1:

        Phew!

Power is not everything, but weight definitely is. So this bike, combined with a higher power figure and a lower weight kills the competition.

What is more interesting is the mid range curve on these two bikes. The R1 develops lesser in the low end, but delivers ~40 massive bhp, and 20 lb-ft between 8000-9000, not even considering all those ugly dips. The BMW has a stronger lower end, more evenly spread out. This should leave the R1 standing in the roll-ons and standstill.

Trackwise, the R1 would still have an edge I guess.

In the year 2007 I was working with BMW as an Intern in Muenchen. I was working on cars not bikes but I remember one high ranking employee saying that the new BMW sports bike will redefine Germans in the biking world.

These guys have put in an insane amount of work and research in this bike.
They also get things right the very first time they do it. I am sounding vague but i dont think this Bike can fail. Bayerische Motoren Werken doesnt know that word.

WOW, this bike is gonna kill all competition, with more power, less weight.
Plus it is priced @ 13800 in the US which is equal the japs and much cheaper than the italians, so it seems as a WINNER in all respects. I hope BMW launches it here, it will really help BMW bikes make a great come back.

It seems they've tested the S1000RR against the Japs in the Dec issue.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but I tend to not believe auto mags with their so called verdicts. Just too inconsistent and they kow tow to the manufacturer most of the time.

So do I.Saw it on the MCN site and just thought of sharing it here.

But the dyno figures sure shows that its time to kiss the Japanese Goodbye (well, for a year atleast i guess ).

I think the bike is beautiful! And BMW have developed an SBK version of the S1000 RR which supposedly produces 210 bhp of sheer power! And the Akrapovic exhausts on the SBK version sound killer. Period.
Right now, 11 Bhp at 7500 Rpm.
