Everyone can see that what the designers have done to this bike is pitiful. I feel pity for the bike.

I didn't want to use harsh words but **** BMW!!! THEY MAKE ****ING UGLY BIKES!!

If there was a biking god and he saw this bike.....he'll be throwing some lighting bolts at BMW right about now. This bike is a disgrace to the biking culture.....well only the styling part.....the engine specs look good.

But I still retain my verdict.........**** BMW
A good long ride on the BMW will clear your mind, restore your faith and use up a lot of fuel.
You sure do need to buy the baseball bat.

Sure agree that styling is very subjective similar to the saying -one man's food is another man's poison. But looks aside BMW seem to have hit the nail right on its head with this bike. BMW makes functional bikes and the function for this bike seems more inclined for the race track than the week-end ride to the strip. BMW always has to do things differently and since the chain drive and other aspects are similar to other supersport bikes on this planet, I guess they decided, the design has to be something 'uncoventional' otherwise it wont make it a BMW! Anyway all said, here is another winner for S1000RR

(watch the video in this link)

This BMW is only about US$ 1,500+ higher than the Jap liter bike prices, but that money gives you a lot more features... Also, in UK (not sure of US), the regular BMW insurance on this bike also covers any damage on BMW track days.

Anyday these Germans,Italians will score over the JAPS, i mean look at the APRILLIA's and DUCATI's, the detailing, parts used and the shape are out of this world, but they come at a price.

              germans yes...italians no.

It is not advisable to sit on an italian bike with its side stand out. While for body positioning training students are asked to sit on a static jap bike all the time as no matter how much weight u put on the side stand it doesnt break.

I remember asking Andy Ibbott if I could not practice my body positioning on the ninja 250R. He said "dont worry its not italian...its japanese."

It wasnt his opinion...its the collective opinion of the motorcycling world that japs offer more quality.

Now the germans are at par with japs.

Not a fan of the head lights either, but the rest of the design is pretty neat. You might wanna research why it was designed the way it is and then bust your guts out dissing it. BMWs have always been functionality based bikes and not just bikini fairings.
There is a reason why the Jap4 have been dethroned. Go figure.

I simply don't get it ....... could anyone enlighten me how a squinty-eyed headlamp helps a bike to go any faster than a normal symmetrical one?? I want to know the reason/s (if any) behind this pirate eye setup??

As per one of the magazines, the reason for the squinty-looking headlight is that "the high beam doesn't need a large reflector, so it can be smaller than the low beam, which means less plastic, and less weight: every gram counts when trying to make a lighter bike"

To read that & more on this bike:

That link says that the gills are there to provide cooling. My doubt: isn't this a liquid cooled vehicle? why is air cooling so necessary on a liquid cooled bike? And even if it is necessary, then why only on one side? does air not flow on the other side of the bike too....if air vents(gills) help in the cooling then why is the left side left gill-less

                      This is news to me.
But never mind the side stand, and look at these exotics, i mean the DUCATI 916, simply one hell of an amazing bike.

But still as they say, DUCATI is the FERRARI of Motorcycles.

Any of these hit the Indian roads yet?

Human brain/nature in general likes symmetry(scientifically proven fact)

The most beautiful girls have the most symmetric faces,

                          so goes with the bikes,

But IMO it looks beautiful, and yea as Carlitos said, one can keep
EATING his brains out to the reasons they have made it like that.

and yea the bike looks so so aggressive, "RUN!! ITS COMING TO DEVOUR you"

Japs are going to have a hard time, more excellent bikes are rolling out from the middle earth, pricing is an issue tough...

You know what mate.... as far as I've studied this bike.... the price can be a even bigger shock than it's killer performance.

The bike has two versions -

                            1) The Base version
                            2) The Upper version with ABS and Traction Control and some additional Electronics (not able to recall the exact details of the additional electronics now!!)

As against other European make bikes, the Base version is priced at par with it's Jap competitors and the Upper version is also not very far up in the chart. (correct me if I'm wrong)

So, BMW is really hitting the Jap Super Sports Inline Liter Class real hard
Twist your wrist and feel the shift!!

                            My own thoughts - Throttle

                                Some pics from my side.

During a visit to my local BMW / Ducati open house. Unfortunately, there were no test rides that day. Hopefully I should be able to ride one in a couple of weeks.
