600CC - Can I get one

You know what? I'm sick of this false protectionism that the bloody government is showing. They say bikes under 800cc will be a competition to our Indian manufacturers, who will be outpaced by better 'foreign' technology. And I wonder why. 800cc + bikes bring in more duties dont they? They also let bellies grow far better than measly 600s, or worse 600s brought in as CKDs.
Our damn Indian manufacturers are nowhere near producing a twin cylinder engine, and the Govt. is worried about imports eating into domestic sales.... Damn them.
This is like a circle. The point where we consumers start demanding, it goes all round and comes back to the same damn place. Is this ever going to change? You get the point?? :D

want 600
HI friends,
Can anyone please suggest me is there atleast 1 genuine bike dealer in India from whom I can get a 600rr 07/08. In many threads I have come across dealers ike dreambikesonline, dealers in maharastra/pune etc etc. But are none of them genuine? (In the entire country!!)
I want only a 600rr. Personally I do not like the 1 litre class much.
Please don't suggest me any other bike friends. Also please dont say that 'no, less than 800cc not possible to get'
I am saying this so that I dont loose my motivation.
I only want to know how can i Get a 600. TR is not possible.. and personaly importing also is almost impossible. So only way is to find a genuine bike or a genuine dealer.. PLS help.

you can import any bikeOriginally posted by Bladerunner View PostFirst of all, you need to buy a legal import with the DRI picking up bikes these days. Secondly, you cannot import anything below 800 cc.
for personal use
but >800cc bikes can be imported by sellers without arai clearance
as far as i know
otherwise every bike being brought for sale will have to undergo mandatory testing in arai tracks and comply to emission(sound and exhaust)norms before sale in indiaWhy is the man who invests all your money, called a broker?

importing sbk by yourself/sensible???
i suggest guys, some of us should make a firm, get all the licences n formalities done, and start importing legal used bikes for our fellow enthusiasts. but would it be sensible????Originally posted by men_in_jean View PostHI friends,

my point is, getting a used sbk here would attract 150% over the depreciated cost of vehicle while a new one would attract 120%.
so if a get myself something 8 months old, i ll end up paying more than what i would for the same make brand new unregistered bike as.. 100%(cost of new bike)+120%(taxes on it) < 88%(value of a 8 month old used sbk, same model)+150%.
however, taxes being consistent for used bikes, if i get something 3.5 years old, i have to shell out= (cost of the bike, in this example let it be the same bike we have hypothetically talked about above.)+[60%(depreciated value of same bike)*150% that will be 90% of new bikes] value.
so, while , say a new litre class bike costing 10k$ abroad,(i exclude shipping and all other expenses as they are same for all the above bikes.)and tax on it would be 10500$=20,500$
same bike if 8 months old would be evaluated @8800$(10k-12%of 10k)+8800*150%=13200$=22000$ which is more than a lack rs approx. above the cost of a new bike. and hence bringing such a bike would only be feasible if u could procure it at much more lesser price ,that could offset that 1500$ you are paying more in terms of duty.
however for the same bike, 4year old, the equation would be: 54%(depreciated value of bike)*150%=81% of bike's cost as tax. + the cost of procurement.
so, if you procure a 4 year old model of the aforementioned 10000$bike , you will be paying 8100$ as pure taxes. if you have acquired the bike for 4000$(an approximate true value i guessed from current market trends) the total cost of procurement would be 12,100$+shipping. if that is how much you are paying for a same class legal bike, same age, available here, it doesn t makes sense to import a sbk all by yourself.
however , legal status of a bike we get here is a dubious issue, and i doubt i can get a 4 year old litre bike for 6lacs . can i?? is any 05-06 r1/cbr/gixxer1000
completely legal , up for sale for ~6lacs anywhere in india??
if yes, go for it, if not, lets ake a firm, get all the licences n formalities done, and start importing legal used bikes for our fellow enthusiasts. ask for our fellow bhpians abroad, stationed nearest to the bikes put up for sale, physically inspect etc... and.. let team x-bhp members be the first genuine dealers of the kind you are looking for.
cheers.

1 of my dad's friends said we can fight for a rule change in court... Like we can show them luxury items like private helicopters, jets, yachts and stuff attract just 40-50% import duty. So why should superbikes which are treated as luxury vehicles attract 120% duty?
He said something about the procedure, of which I managed to grab nothing.... Anybody found in legal matters might be able to help. Can we as consumers submit a petition/request for a rule change (not drastic, we can decide the parameters), and if need be, solve the matter in a court? You get the point?? :D

lil OT here - the KTMs have come to the pune plant for testing and its a matter of time till they go for homologation. Im hoping after the expo, and with the overwhelming response to the ninja, they should be speeding things up, but still ill give it till early 2011 minimum.
@ JOSH5898 - how much would a good CBR600 cost??? the new gen?
