And interestingly that makes for HD being the largest seller of motorcycles across the planet upwards of 800cc despite the "plethora" of choices. I guess that makes all of them non riders!Originally posted by TenHut View PostThe Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Much admired or much maligned depending on which camp you place yourself in, Harley are probably (along with Honda) one of the few manufacturer's names that non-bikers know. More of a lifestyle and nothing of a machine, they tend to inspire deep devotion in their owners. They’ve never really been able to get themselves on a par technically with the rest of the big manufacturers and some think their days are now numbered and that HD is a spent force, but you don’t buy a Hog for its V-Tec fuel injection and cornering ability. A different kind of fun compared to sportsbikes, a different kind of explanation for the lack of performance and reliability.Originally posted by ken cool View PostAnd interestingly that makes for HD being the largest seller of motorcycles across the planet upwards of 800cc despite the "plethora" of choices. Buell:
Started by a former Harley engineer who wanted a Hog that handled, Buell makes some very good machines that don’t follow the herd in terms of design principles.
(quoted from www)
I like Buell even though they are HDs. They handle.
Hey...I am just making clear which camp I belong too. Not necessarily the right camp.

OT: Get a one piece BMW pro-rain III suit, boot covers and raincoat visor coating. You should be all set, unless its the bike you are worried about!Originally posted by TenHut View Post

How about Harley's like V-Rod /Night Rod when it comes to contemporary tech? Liquid cooled, Porsche designed engine...I know a few on xbhp have test ridden it, would like to hear how they feel about the machine. And the XR1200? Anyone here had a go on it yet?Last edited by bluevolt; 08-04-2010, 09:18 PM.

hi BV, why do you think I am so opinionated? Oh! Thanks... the VRSC certainly looks very uncomfortable, though I have no idea about how it fares on other areas.
I am vaguely contemplating buying a bigger motorcycle, and all this talk has definitely turned me off HD's, though I thought the XR1200 looked cool.

Go what your heart says, you won't regret.Originally posted by bluevolt View Postand all this talk has definitely turned me off HD's, though I thought the XR1200 looked cool.
Buy a technically advanced motorcycle in the planet that has all the best cornering capabilities, 0-60 in split seconds, quarter mile in fractions, top speed over 200+ and do what? Ride on track or street?
What you need to do on the streets, HD has it; they sell you a lifestyle which others don't. No I'm not a hater of MT01/R1/Intruder/Bandit, infact I love all of them. All of them are built for specific segment of people; if your heart says XR1200, go for it. Period.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

I rode the Rods, the RoadKings and the 1200 Sportsters for 4000kms. People are talking about a "plethora" of choices in front of the HD! Are they in India?Originally posted by Sunny View Postwhere, in India?
Besides, your first post, the original post, talks about an article about "saving HD". I am pretty sure that article was not written by an Indian or has taken Indian conditions into context!

the night rod is a beautiful and imposing machine, powerful, but very uncomfortable, had a difficult time riding it. not much of a cruiser fan anyway.Originally posted by bluevolt View PostOT:How about Harley's like V-Rod /Night Rod when it comes to contemporary tech? I liked the xr1200 though, comfortable, reasonably powerful, took it upto 140kph without much effort. quite a bit of vibration in idle, in all their bikes, but settles once the bike is in motion.
I think choosing a bike is a very personal decision, and should remain that way.Last edited by anshuljain; 08-05-2010, 01:12 PM.

Why does that has to be only in India? Is HD not suited for Indian roads? If that is the case, so is with MT01, Intruder, Busa, CBR1000 including Monster. Why is that?Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Couldn't help posting it here...
Source -QT: So after 2.5 weeks with a used Harley you took off for an 8500 mile trip. Any problems with the bike?
WB: Almost none. What I did in the weeks prior to the start of the Challenge was ride the bike from Florida up the east coast to Vermont and back getting used to the bike and making sure that the bike was in good shape. I wanted to identify any reasons the bike might give me to stop. Then I would set about finding a way to eliminate those reasons for stopping so I would not have to stop. During the race I went thru 5 headlight bulbs. Don’t know why but I went thru 5 of them. Other then that I had no other problems. It never skipped a beat. Oil pressure, starting, everything was perfect. I did replace tires during the race but that’s really maintenance. It never needed even a drop of oil. Everything Harley worked 110%. Everything was perfect. I was very impressed with Harley’s quality. I wish my Mercedes was as goodSkill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle
