              Awesome link there.

One thing i noticed, the RD in Srilanka also had disc brakes !!!!!!!! WTF were Escorts thinking !!!!!! Howcome no 2-stroke in India (exception of Fury & RX-Z 5-Speed) had disc brakes !!!!!!!

              http://www.classicyams.com/classic-yamaha-owners/stories-from-central-asia/yamaha-rdx250-in-sri-lanka.html

Even the RX115 in Pakistan had one!!!!!!

Can't imagine as to how RD350 in India came without disc brakes!!!! What were these guys thinking???? Even a puny Bajaj Caliber Croma had disc brakes for god's sake !!!!!!!!!

I understand that our beloved Govt. had some issue with BHP numbers, by why on Disc Brakes !!!!!!!! Or it the manufacturer's idea not to use it in Indian market???

I really pity the Indian 2-stroke fraternity. Its like a curse being born in this country with RX & RD as the only performance machines!!!!!

The RX115 in Pak and the RD350 in SL were direct imports and not of indigenous manufacture.

I have seen imported (1979) RD350s in ind with disc assemblies.

With regards to Rajdoot / Escorts RD350, it was a licence manufacture not a collaboration (unlike the RX100).

Escorts would pay a royalty to Yamaha for each RD350 sold.

Also in 1983, the RD350 sold for 2 time the cost of it's arch nemesis : The enfield Bullet.

Remember Even cars did not have disc brakes then ... the maruti 800 was launched in 1984.

So to keep initial costs low and profitability high, the front drum for the RD350 was adapted from the 5-speed non-reed valve R5C bike

Also remember that the industrial development of Sri Lanka and Pak was and is still is different than India.

It is easier and cheaper for people to import bikes into these countries than for people to import into india..

Well wasn't the initial lot of RX100 direct import? Why dint it come with disc brakes?

Even Pakistan had A Kawasaki GTO 125 that had a single disc in front.

The bike were ckd kits .... even though they were imported, it was done with the idea of starting up local manufacture here ....

That does not count as an import.

We are not poor now ... but we sure were poor in 1983 / 1986 !!!

This was before the economy was opened up in 1990 ...

The Kawasaki GTO125 as well as the RX115 (which has the same disc brake set as our RXZ 5-speed) were never manufactured in pakistan ... they were only imports ... and the respective parent manufacturers would not change the design for a few thousand bikes that were sold in pakistan ....

In india this was different ... I think at least 100,000 rx100 were built in the 11 yrs of production.
