Re: Restoring a Enfield Explorer.......help required!!!

Long ago, in early 90s, when I was a kid, My Grand father's friend had this bike. I remember it solely due to the alloy wheels and the exhaust note. Funny thing is, Though I was curious, I never knew what bike it was, until I saw this thread(My grand father passed away at that time and not much contact with his friend anymore, and even he might not be alive anymore now). Yes, it was the explorer. I could still remember its unrefined engine note.
Restoration aside, I should thank you for refreshing those memories. I had many times sat on this bike's Tank accompanying him to the local fish market(I was around 8 then).
I am sorry, for being emotional on your technical thread. :P
Carry on your good work. I am sticked to this thread.

What spec/size are they? Even if you couldn't find the same spec, stick to the nearest available spec. Tire is one of the safety part and we aren't sure about the condition of current tire.

PS: I could see a beast standing behind in the first snap. Was that restored & running?

Tyre size is 2.75 X 17 for both front and back wheel. New tyres are very much available. You can use Bajaj M80 rear tyre and Bajaj discover 17" tyres.

                    Rims Are 1.6 X 17"

Hi Eminenjohn, Wheels looking stunning did you lacquered the wheels after paint ? if not don't coat it with lacquer.. because lacqure turns to golden shade over the brake drum area after couple of braking due to heat.

I have been inspired by you to buy a '86 Rx100 and to restore it and believe me i have learnt from you many things like example the first batch came with the Nippon siki instument cluster so when i bought mine the bike didt have the cluster in it so i have imported a nippon Seki Rx 100 cluster brand new from Japan for my restoration and also my Rx is also Pecock blue... Sorry i went offtopic frds but he has been a role model and also thanks for your info on the test report which i have downlaoded and printed in 2012 again after seeing you post I read through the entire report and simply said WOW😳 and thanks for Introducing Power Twin, and I will try to PM him for some support for parts 😬. Do visit this thread often and give you valuable suggestions

Thanks eminemjohn, nice to see the bike getting into shape. what color have you decided? i have a suggestion for you, don't leave the RPM console by closing it. try to procure an RPM Meter for the bike. its a unique part which came with the first batch of the Explorers. its an Electronic RPM meter (not connected to the engine by drive cable. its driven by wire via ignition pulses)which we see on all the Bikes these days. back then even RPM meters are very rare/non-existent on bikes. AFAIK explorer is the first bike sold in India with an Electronic RPM Meter.

Thank you sir ya i am excited the bike is getting into shape and i will take your advice even my mech told me there was a rpm for the zundapp one's so actuly we did check with couple of shops in scrap market but they are asking a BOMB one guy said he has one but he wont even show unless we accpet to that greedy cost.

And this is amazing to know that this bike had a Electronic RPM , i am feeling more proud to own such a history making SMALL BEAST which ARE the first ones to have the Electronic RPM. 👏👏😃

Ho my goodness forgot to mention Thanks again Frank Sir i PM'd Powertwin Sir and he did help me for the below parts
                                1. Oil seal front fork: he gave a solution to take the size and check with any industrial oil seal dealer
                                2. Tail lamp lense: he was so generous he accepted to give me 1 from his stock 😋👏
                                3. Regarding the front mask he asked me to wait and get one instead of doing a copy.
                                4. Regading Indicators the exact comment given by him was "its hen's teeth" to find 😝😝 btw I have found some indicators in the market last week will post pics soon.( after a full fledged search spent almost 6 hours)

Once again thanks for that reference Sir
