Re: Renovation 1972 Jawa 250 (353/04)
Tomorrow or day after the golden stripes will be done. The P47 Carburettor is mating very well with the bike. The old Carburettor cover will be cut to accommodate for the choke. The P47Y Carburettor was not doing so well. Contacted Pacco Industries, got through to their person in Karol Bagh, who redirected me to a Pacco spares stockist in Mumbai. Unfortunately I didn't get the P43 Carburettor with him and phone died on me. Tomorrow I will start efforts to get the P43 Carburettor. But the whole thing is very convoluted, I will then have to send it to Kaka who will send it back to me, if any issue occurs with it. Then I have to contact the Karol Bagh fellow for redressal and send it back if he agrees to replace it. So I am stuck between the devil and the deep sea. I will not get a standard fitment if I don't check the P43 out. The P47Ys (which would've fit without modification) have not been to Kaka's satisfaction. Today the trip was for about 30-40mins before seizing. The run was very smooth till then.

Got the Pacco P43 in my city itself, after another call to Pacco. Attaching a few pics of the proposed carburettor. It should reach kaka by tomorrow morning. But Kaka under the weather, hope he gets well soon. I have advised him again in strictest terms ;-) everything planned for today gets pushed back till he feels better.

Wow!! Awesome!! The bike looks so beautifully executed.
I am going to be in a similar position a few months down the line.
I am planning to restore my Dad's 1979 Yezdi. Your thread will serve as nice roadmap.
I want it to look exactly in the similar shape as yours.
One of the first issues that I see is the Paint.
Can you please help me the type of paint used on the bike? How did you get the chrome done etc.
Thank you

Hi. I will ask kaka for paint details. It was a hard chrome job, which he got it done under his supervision. Overall the painter did a fair enough job. A few tips, do the body work completely (hammering, welding etc.) after old paint is scrapped off, I mean fit it on the bike and see how the parts mate to each other. Also prefer to do the paint work in summer than in winter. Do not park the newly painted vehicle under the sun for a month atleast. The metal expands and places where the coatings have not bonded to the underlying surface will puff up and break or they may crumple. Happened at a few spots for my bike. I got the fellow to touch it up at a few spots. But some were not so accessible. The golden stripes are not paint. The jawa logo is made slightly different than the original.

Well said. We need to be very carful for the newly painted vehicle. Otherwise all our effort will go for toss. Please take extra care of your legendary bike for few months to completely dry the paint work.Originally posted by rk1685 View PostHi. The confusion is that whether to go for bhatti (furnace) paint for metallic paint.
Also how does chrome thing works.
Also any generic figure of how big a whole you put in your pocket.
Just a general figure would do for me. And out of that how much for the paint.
Thank you

Very neat restoration. The indicators look a little out of place(just my thought). May be you can try the Yezdi type indicators.Originally posted by rk1685 View PostProject completed. Okay. Some minor changes done.
Mirror installation check. Fuel tank lid check. Fuel efficiency long distance ride 38KmpL. New speedometer check (kept the older one as a spare).
No oil leakage. Added a pair of focus LED lights. Rest all is well after 18months. Reliable enough for a 400kms long distance journey during the rainy season.Last edited by rk1685; 10-02-2017, 08:06 PM.

Re: Renovation 1972 Jawa 250 (353/04)
The 3rd gear was slipping into neutral very too frequently for me to be okay with it. The seal of the Right front fork started to leak. There was some play in the steering column. There was some sputtering while driving due to the Pacco P43 carburettor.
Changed the layshaft, 16t, 17t gears, crank and top gear oil seals, bushes, oil seal holder for the fork & the carburettor back to the Jikov. Just had to use the carburettor slide from the PACCO P43 as there was too much play in the previous Jikov slide.
Used this opportunity to change the Clutch bell, Plates & springs for the clutch & cam, main stand (due to excessive play in the older stand). Unfortunately, it is Delhi make, however got it welded with bolts as a supporting structure where the chassis rests on it.
Also changed the kick-quadrant and its spring (broken tooth).
Oh! It is so pleasant to ride now.
By the way instead of using EP 90 gear oil used the 20W50 engine oil in the gear box. The gear shifting is as good as a new bike, i.e. smoother and noiseless.
Waiting for the weekend...
