ROTFL ... Man I would have ROTFL on the track if I could see that.
105-110 kph... man that is as Joel said - faster than a stock 135 4speed.

Wouldn't it be fun to have a video of a souped up TVS moped stuffing a stock RX down the straight ? ROTFL ...it would be super funny... Joel any videos ?

@karthik - don't you find that bit of detail joel posted to be inspirational ? You could putter around town as if yours is this decades old moped ..and if somebody does some nakhara...you show em whose the boss.. ROTFLMAO

Go ahead mate - keep the cosmetics stock ..but soup up the performance !

^But trust me, you dont wanna see how they move from the start light. They are very slow and they run sprokets half the OE size at rear for top-speeds. These engines are set very peaky and since they are non-geared, they have to wait till they hit the powerband. So they'll do all that it takes off the start. Push with legs and what not. The putter from the exhaust will turn one dead and ear plugs if not in motogp and F1, can be used when watching these things move. The challenge for these riders is to hold the power band thru the corners to not loose power and its indeed a sight to watch. I watch these almost every month

Now thats something that our dear friend would never be interested in.

Boys boys, hold your horses...I am no where even remotely thinking in your direction. It would indeed be fun to smoke the bigger counterparts, but I wouldnt like to compromise on the practicality by making it peaky and sluggish in the lower band, but this doesnt mean the engine will be pimped out (not to that extent ie.,) coming to the current state of tune, the engine is a power ported and does 60-65kmph easily on a flat stretch and perhaps more. I am infact searching for a retro fit speedo console which has calibration till 80kmph.

Now you know whats my challenge, yes reaching 80kmph .

I am having some tricks which might or might not work. First and foremost I have all the critical bits needed to fire up the engine, hopefully the engine will wake up from its deep slumber and for the better.

Some one talking about a different bore capable of taking the abuse? hmm, interesting..Bugger Joel, why didnt you tell me about this!?

And talking about smoking an Rx or an R15 on a straight, well..I'll leave that task to my thunder tiger st1.

Best of Luck for your Project Karthik

Please let me know if you need any Spare for XL, I know few guys in Hosur TVS Showroom who can source few parts from Motor Company warehouse directly.
Few years back I got Disk brake assembly for Suzuki Fiero sourced from the TVS company for my friends who were racing for Ucal-Rolon.

Hi guys, had been to a track day..After more than 5 hours of journey, when I was parking my bike in the pits, I heard a very familiar 2 stroke rev like crazy, I was hoping it to be a XL and .............it was.

You guys remember the low cost version of tvs 50 which came with only the frame ? No tanks, toolbox... Well, this chap was using one such platform with a ported scooty bore and a bigger carb probably that of a shogun or max 100 and a shorter rear sprocket. The chamber was longer than the bike itself. It was such a treat to watch it move and scorch the tracks. Off the start, the guy was having a tough time making it move, but once the revs climbed, it was a different story. In one of the corners I heard it approaching, so slowed on purpose to watch it exiting the corner, Dang!! It moves!! Zipped right next to me..

Every other guy was admiring the cbr and the r1..but i was admiring the pure enginuity those mechanics were putting behind the bike. Its easy to extract 10-15 bhp more from a sbk, try doing that to a puny bike, its a different ball game. It was worth the up and down journey.

Now coming to the update on the restoration, I have sourced a Scooty bore kit and bolted it on after filing the ports for irregularities. Still a day's effort is required to fire up the engine. Here's a pic of the bike.

10:45 in the night and the newly bored engine roars back to life, after a brief span of 10 yrs. Had to kill the engine the very next instant as the exhaust wasnt bolted on and my garage is in the first floor

I cant wait to get her started again..

Ofcourse , there are some issues but are minor in scale. Wish me luck guys

Back in my teens I used to hear/read that they had races for the mopeds and the TVS won it everytime and there was this one special article in I guess "Car & Bike International" where someone from Pune had finally managed to tune a LUNA to Win. I guess it was some small uphill race and these mopeds completed it in times very close to the RDs and yes they did race to over 110kmph.

I was finally lucky sometime in 2002 when I had a cpl of chances to visit MMSC and wow that was the first time I saw and heard them. Yes they sound and go so crazy. Something you would never expect of a puny moped.

Race/mods apart, this mopeds are fun in their own way. I rode a Luna Magnum for 10yrs. Infact I think they best suit our traffic today and not heavy on maintenance at all.

Now you making me think of finding a Luna .

The TVS was always better than the Luna in terms of performance but I have this special thing for Luna that I learnt riding on it and possessed one for a decade.

It is really nice to know that there still are people around who admire these simple little things from the past. All the best. Now this is one thread I will have to follow and see how your bike comes out. Looks good so far. All the best dude and hats off to you.

For a real biker, the engine CC, number of gears, top speed shouldn't matter at all.

^ very true.. The bike came to a dead halt back in 2000 and my dad was so fed up with it, that he decided to sell it off. To compliment, the mechanic lamented about the engine's poor condition and what not. Normally people wouldnt think twice about selling it such an old bike considering the fact that there's already a more fuel efficient, more comfortable 4 stroke parked in the porche.

                            Hi guys,

Yesterday, I tried to start the bike after cleaning the spark plug, checking fuel lines, checking for spark etc. Strangely the bike wouldnt start, she kept coughing. Swapped a couple plugs, and that kinda worked, not for long she started coughing again.

Immediately I knew its the CDI which is not doing its job. Today, got a new point set CDI(after a lot of searching) and a new plug. Bolted it on and it worked like a charm. She doesnt idle though. Tomorrow, I am gonna get her new rims, tubes and seat to make her a 100% functional.

Here's a vid of the first start up. The clutch assembly sadly has to be replaced (pls dont mind the squeals)
