+1 to that , also we have to consider the fact that the rx100 was launched aimed squarely at the ax100

@yamdoot, kb100: Very well said, and very less people know that suzuki ax100 came before rx100, and at that time, the best bike was that which won rallies, not by drags or street race, and suzuki clearly maintained its dominance there. Earlier, it used to be yezdi, but after they ruled out the use of yezdi in rallies, it was suzukis who took over.

I was gonna get rm250 2stroke but a friend of mine buys bikes from US which need some work, repair and sell them in Canada. He got his yz250f from there, but he got into masters program in Italy and had to leave, so I bought it from him and took over his project of rebuilding it. My current plans is to convert into supermotard race bike and race it in local league.

I also bought xr200r, coz I got it for a nice price and is an excellent bike to go trail riding with friends, as its calm and simple bike, perfect for a nice sunday ride. But, I still haven't give up hope to get a 2 strokes very soon.... infact, just yesterday I was talking with a friend in canada, who got rd350lc in his garage, and need to get rid of it....maybe a cafe racer project....

@dafc: No 2stroke 500's man, yes they will scare you, but more than that they will kill you and cr500 is famous for it. These bikes are like point and shoot bikes, you better know where you are going before you twist your wrist and you have to be pro and really mad to get one of these. You can get CR500 for around 800$ just because its not for everyone. I'm more of a have fun rider, and being 75kg, it will be really hard to keep 500 under me. But I love cr500, and maybe I will buy it and keep it, coz they don't make bikes like that anymore.

I was gonna go for big bore, but the guys I took the bike from, already bought the Athena top end and Wiseco bottom end for it, as he was gonna rebuild it to stock class setup and sell it, so I'm gonna keep it at 250cc and race it in stock class, and next time it will need new top end, I will get big bore kit and go for modified class.

        Will post pics very soon...

the dominance in racing and rallying was mainly due to the work done by tvs i mean at its time none of the indian manufacturers had any r&d division and there was tvs which raced every bike they made , from the tvs 50 to the ax and put the lessons they learn t into developing better bikes that people could buy

Hi Guys, interesting discussion....wow brings back wonderful memories. To start with I still own my RX 100 and love the bike to bits....but the AX100 was a similar bike infact the first jap bike in India and have had a blast ridding it and have to say that the seating position on the AX was much better than the RX. The footpeg, handlebar and seat position was the best. I am not sure if I would have been faster on the AX or the RX both were really good. But when it comes to the shogun please stop comparing it to the RX. The shogun was a mad rush and had an engine that just wanted to be pushed. If the RX used to scream the Shogun would roar. The RX cannot match up to a Shogun. If anyone has ridden the Shogun in a good condition knows that bike was gonna be the Boss. It was sad that later the cat was put on it and somehow it was the end of the 2 strokes pretty soon. Like I said earlier I still own an RX and still love it to bits and would not trade it for anything else. This is just my Humble opinion.
Nikhil Sorry for hijacking your thread but the AX 100 is a fantastic machine so congrats and hope you solve all the problems that you may have and enjoy the rides.

I own rally Ind Suzuki Ax100 and rally Supra, both modified for rallies by suzuki and my dad for rallies back in late 80s. Have owned shogun too (stolen).

I have driven many bikes, including yamaha RX, and I have changed the minds of many rx believers by letting them ride my dad's rally AX100. RX100 is nice bike, but there is a totally different breed of riders who love Shogun over RX. And thats a reason, why Shogun is a rare collectors bike now. Im have hard time finding a good shogun or shoalin these days, whereas I have found many rx100 at nice price. And I remember, how suzuki bikes ridden by Jagat won all rallies n dirt events back when rx100 and supra were top bikes and continued to win with future suzuki bikes and still does win dirt events with shoalin bikes by tvs racing.

I live abroad in Canada, and have driven bikes here too and personally own Honda xr200r and YZ250f in Canada. But nothing has scared the crap out of me like Supra and Shogun did. Im still scared to take the Supra out...trust me...I got huge balls, but it still scares the living hell out of me.

And that was one of the reason why I came back here after 5 yrs for few days....to enjoy my old bikes.
Welcome to the forum Nikhil. It was nice reading your experience with Ind Suzuki Ax100. In India its one among the best of bikes manufactured in the 100cc category till date. I am riding one since my teen days (owned by my cousin) Its a 1st lot Ind Suzuki AX100 still in its stock condition with the original color. It going to be in my stable very soon

Please do upload pictures of your rides, would be a treat to the eyes!

+1 Sarge. The AX100 has the best handling and seating position according to me too. And YES the Shogun ROARS and a good condition Shogun is THE BOSS

When we are talking about Sports Bikes, we are talking about POWER & PERFORMANCE!!
As this being a AX 100 thread...need to say this>>
" TVS-Suzuki AX 100, doesn't excel in terms of performance, but has a decent fuel economy and a reputation for being a Very very RELIABLE ( obviously a RELIABLE Commuter, that has no Sporting pretensions)"
For the Sports bike market TVS-Suzuki , TVS guys pepped up the engine& Body and came up with SUPRA, so Supra was sports bike offering from TVS-Suzuki -->( so its here for the discussion, not to forget have already told no Shogun in this GD)
Before going to PERFORMANCE, few words about Styling, On road capabilities, ergonomics and even about fuel consumption ( why not??..all the three falls in the same category)
                                Styling:
Beauty ,of course lies in the eyes of the be-holder....no bike is out & out winner each of us have a personal favorite ( my Fav goes like this 1) KB 100RTZ, 2)Supra & 3) RX100 )
Styling is a very important aspect in the image building to a consumer.
A bike becomes a sports bike once it is re-styled, once if we say sports bike, it has to appeal the image conscious youth , for whom show is more important!! ( than GO!!!!)
                                i) When KB 100 was introduced, many acknowledged like me.....as the best looking BIKE
When RTZ was launched, it echoed the lines of early '70s Ducati desmo.
Still KB is Smart looking Bike!!!
ii) Suzuki Supra: was & is a hand some looking bike!!!
If AX 100 was a smart bike, when TVS made it sportier in SUPRA( it doesn't mean there is no areas for criticism ..it had & has..)
iii) RX 100 :If both the above(KB & SUPRA) where of early '80s or end of '70s in STYLE....hm!! Yamaha RX 100 is of early '70s.....where this was the period(early '70s) the styling went with soft curved tanks, round head lights , without tall fairings...all proportionally put in.( think that's why I have my'87 RX 100 in my stable....but regret missing that Supra PU)
                                Shall come to On-road capabilities..later
