    Hi swingarm,

All the best for your rebuild. I am also bringing back to glory my recently acquired 1989 model RX100.
Let us know about converting to 12V setup as I also wanted to do the same in bike.

All the best for the rebuild swingarm. You have got one of the most neat shogun that i have ever seen in my life and the moment i went through your last thread when you got the Rx-your childhood dream, i knew it would be a helluva rebuild. Can't wait to see the Rx come to its shining glory...

PERSEVERE... failure is not an option!

Thanks. The conversion to 12V setup is bit confusing, at least that is what I experienced. One set of people are suggesting to change the whole electrical system example the coil, magnet, rectifier, cdi and the wiring to 12V RX-135. Problem is, this is quite costly and availability is a factor. For example, the 12 V rectifier available will be of YBX 125 and you have to do some surgery to the wiring to accommodate it. The magnet and coil combined will come around Rs. 3500.

What I am doing, is having faith on God and my mechanic. He is going for a simple solution (he has implemented this on a number of RX100s and they are doing fine - according to him). The coil is being rewinded. The rectifier will be changed to a 12V KB100 one with an additional capacitor. The wiring will be 6V RX100 wiring, the CDI remains unchanged, the flasher will be changed to a 12V flasher and all bulbs changed to 12V. Now, I do not know the technical aspect of it, but as I said I am just trusting him on this. Ofcourse he knows, he has to do the job right. But till it is done, and the bike runs smoothly after that, I cannot solicit this solution. As a matter of fact the Yamaha OEM spare parts dealers also suggested the same.

Thanks. I am too waiting to see how it comes out. Except for the electricals, I am confident, the rest of the stuff will be good. It's just a RX not a RD after all.

the RX100 did come with a 12V electricals. You cannot install an RXG coil plate for 12V conversion on an RX100 because the magnet of a 12V RX100 is diff. Putting a heavy RXG/rx135 magnet is not recommended. Just my 2 cents

ps: if you are thinking of mods, i'd suggest you change the setup to a 135. But I presume this is a restoration. Goodluck

              and a few minors.

Currently parts are being painted and quite confused on the 6V to 12V conversion.
Go for 12V conversion its good.
Reg Magneto & coil - whoa!!! we're all in the same boat. This is very rare to find & according to the distributor it has become a history (just like petrol tank cap cotter pin)
Last week I got a reed valve, anyway mine is for RXG 135 4 speed barrel, will see if I can source out one for you for Rx100
Wiring!!! I'm surprised, will try to see that too. Seat - 100% yes it is available as a fibre (means without the foam). Let me know if you need (as I myself am going to purchase one)

I am also in the same boat

@swingarm: Same thing what your mechanic said is what I done for my old Pulsar 150 to accomodate high W headlight and better horn.

I did the coil rewinding and changed the rectifier. That is what i remember.
There was a very big Universal Thread about better lights I started in xbhp before crash like the current "Let there be Light" thread.

                It is long gone

Hey this may not help you completely in converting your RX to 12v but I came across same situation when I wanted to convert my Bullet to 12v. But later decided to remain stock!!

I checked out in RUBY Electricals, Bangalore.

He said he can do the job for me.

                    Price he quoted -

                    Rewind + magnet recharge - 650rs
                    Labor - 400rs

Ignition coil , Bulbs, RR Unit and other necessary things I will have to get him.

Petrol Tank cap is available. No issues. Rs. 183. 1A1-07050-0C-> part number.

I don't know where is cotter pin the cap assy though

Seat assy also available. OEM costs Rs.1200.

I am really curious to see the outcome of 12V conversion. All the best

I have sourced the Reed Valve, Wiring (Minda) and Seat. Lock set is of Minda too. Not changing anything except the rings and the clutch plates w.r.t engine.

Have completed getting the spares. Sorted them out. Some pics:

OK a word of caution for everyone buying Yamaha spares. Please check the genuineness of the spare, because the market is full of D-products (as they call it). D obviously stands for duplicate. If you are doubtful of the quality of the material in the box here is how you should check.

See the price tag label. It will have a vertical hologram and right beside it, you will notice the words "Scratch & See". The counterfeit packaging also comes with the same. But what you should do is scratch it with you bike keys. The white area when scratched will make the words YAMAHA appear very faintly. When the hologram is scratched you will see the words YAMAHA in red. See pics below:

Scratch the marked areas with your bike keys.

Two instances of Yamaha will appear. One faint. One red.
