  • [Photo Feature]: 1988 model RX100 - Bringing back to Glory

I bought a 1988 model Escorts RX100 in my home town.

As I was not in town for last two months and I was not able to do anything to the bike also.

Here are some pictures of the bike when I got the bike.

Bike requires lot of work to bring back to it's glory.

I request all the members to provide help and pour your comments on the restoration.

I will be doing the restoration in my home town itself. My mechanic told me that the most of the spares are available there.
If not I will try to source it from Bangalore or some where else.

    Wish me luck guys

It looks pretty good for a bike that old

                Where is your hometown?

Is it genuine 42xxx kms on odo?

What bore is it running on? Y1? Any reboring/replacement done?

                How is it running?

Lot of questions man, few pics wouldn't suffice if you are actually seeking an answer

All of us do wish the very best for RXians Do keep us posted.

EDIT: At this rate xbhp will end up being the official database for re-builds I guess :P

My hometown is a place called Kattappana in Idukki district in Kerala.
The odo is genuine as it is a single owner bike and I know him personnally. He was not using this bike for sometime.

The engine is stock, no reboring or replacement done as far as I know.
How to check is any replacement done on the engine parts?

Bike is running good. There is no smoke and one kick firing in morning. That is the same my mechanic also told me.

Sure, I will try to post some pictures after removing tank and seat.

I have a doubt. The original electricals are 6V and I heared that the wiring set for RX100 is not available. I want to upgrade to 12V electricals. What is the best way to do? Should I buy a 135 wiring kit and a new battery.

                      What's your suggestions?

^^ yup, but you would have to change the magneto plate as well for the 12V electricals... or you could rebuild the existing wiring using new wires.. but that would require a lot of patience..

Nice to know the spares are available in your hometown. Now RXians know where to head

Great. At 42xxx it should be running on the original bore if maintained well. Genuine odo reading, original bore, one kick start... sounds like a very well maintained bike

Now the fav question: Is it running on pre-mix or pump

6V battery is no longer manufactured. For 12V conversion you need to change the R.R unit, flasher, battery, bulbs & wiring kit. Atleast that is all I did in the name of 12V conversion and no probs experienced so far.

I am planning to buy new wiring kit. I think that is the best and easiest way to go.

                              Then let's try to smoke

That is what he told me first and now I came to know that he sourcing some spares from Kottayam, near by big town

Oil pump is not working and running on pre-mix.
That is my next doubt. Is it possible to source new fuel pump for RX100 ?

I bought a new wiring kit and 12V battery. Did you remember the price of R.R unit and flasher.
