  • Really a very informative and picturesque travelogue. Truly deserves 5 star rating.

It will help me a lot, in my future travel plan, as I wish to be there (in fact been there decades ago but this time wish to be there on bike).

            • Day 7 - Jairampur - Burma Border - Makum - Rupai - Dholaghat

There was no point waking up early today, but bad habits dont die easily ...I woke up at around 07 AM.I had nothing to do till 10 AM,as the SDO will open at that time.Somehow i passed 01 hour and clock ticked 08:00.The wait was killing me,Suddenly i got an idea.I took few pens from a nearby store who had matching ink with the pen used in the permit document. After practicing few times to match the Handwriting,I entered Pangsau Pass in the ILP.That was a bad and illegal practice, but the situation made me to do it.I didn't knew how far i will go with this, may be end up in real trouble or put behind bars.

Sighted this dude between Jairampur to Namphong - State Animal of Arunachal Pradesh - MITHUN

I continued to the check posts of the Assam rifles one by one and successfully made it to a town called Namphong. There were atleast 6 checkposts, where i had to show my permit and rest of the papers..along with i had to get my name included in a register with Bike details.Namphong is the last town on India side, when we go towards Burma border.Beyond Namphong is the 2nd last check post. These guys stopped me and took the permit and all the documents to CO after checking all my luggage. The CO got the fishy work done by me and did not gave permission to go ahead..and asked to get SDO permission from Namphong if i can.

Since it was Saturday, there was no chance of getting hold of the SDO and get permission. With a hope i went back,Office was closed as expected.I parked by bike in the market area and started smoking to relieve the bad feeling and frustration of being so close and unable to reach till border.Just then a person came and starts talking with me about my tour and appreciates me about my passion. The guy was SDO's driver :P...He advised me to go and meet the SDO for permission and pointed me the house.I went there with a innocent face to meet Mr Hazarika (SDO).
I literally begged him to let me go,he said he cant allow me because the name 'Pangsau Pass' in the ILC is incorrectly mentioned.Damn !,I got caught :P ...I put the blame on the agent whose help i had taken to get the Permit thing done .After lot of begging and request... he gave me permission to let go till the Border stone of Burma and India.I went back to the Assam Rifle check post, they submitted all my stuff including camera phone everything.Even the jacket,in which i was hiding my P&S :P. As the zone ahead was no photography zone.

              A beautiful sight

A soldier accompanied with me on my bike till the Border Stone, because there is no proper marking on the road..when Indian border ends..though there are proper gates for entering Burma.Just when you see a board of Pangsau Pass on the right hand side,go 1/2 Km ahead and there on the left hand side is the Border Stone.Hard to spot, until you climb few steps. The fauji accompanying me turns out to be from Gwalior,MP.After much requests,he clicked some shots of me with the border stone in his mobile.Though he promised me..he will send the photographs to my mobile via MMS.I haven't received any of them yet

I was much happy,I returned back to the Namphong after collecting my stuff from the Check post.On my way from Namphong to Jairampur..I spotted a World War 2 cemetery. Did not took the photo of it,as taking photos of Cemetery is not considered as a good act.Yeah call me Orthodox

While coming back you have to enter the exit details on all the check posts where you made the entries while coming in.Last one was at Jairampur, which was the Arunachal police check post. Now the return journey starts towards Makum, where I left the NH37.Today was Assam bandh,no traffic at all on the roads. It did not took me much time to reach Makum.

From Makum, the next destination was Roing and Tezu. When i was in Miao,i made some local friends who suggested me to visit Ainni, which is accessible from Roing.Since i had plenty of days in my hand..I included it in my travel plan.Major issue was of permit,as Ainni was not included in my Permit.

I moved ahead from Makum..thinking that..we will deal with the situation as it comes.I reached a town called rupai,Rupai is the town from where we have two options to reach Tezu. One is via Roing which includes a ferry ride in between from Dholaghat. This is very short cut, saves atleast 70-80 Kms.The other road is via Namsai/Wakro..where you dont have any ferry crossing and you can easily ride/drive on the entire stretch.I decided to take the short cut while going and long cut while coming back and complete the entire circle

I reached Dhola ghat from where i had to take the ferry, but due to Assam Bandh there was no ferry available. So i came back to the last town Saikhoa and checked in a lodge for the night.

              Cheers

                              • Day 8 - Dholaghat - Roing - Etaun

Started for Dholagat in the morning to catch the ferry and cross the mighty Bramhaputra.Usually the ferry services starts from 06 AM morning, but the frequency of the ferries increases by 08 AM.
I had to wait till 07:00 AM,till me and my bike got a lift in one of the ferry.Saw an under construction bridge which is expected to be completed by 2014.Not many bridges ply in the northern side of Bramhaputra in Assam, infact there is none. The only way to cross the river is via Ferry. It costed me 70 INR in all, which was okayish for a ferry ride of 20-30 mins.

Not even the small cars, but the trucks can be crossed from one side to another via ferry services. And trust me they charge minimal rate for the services they are providing,so don't bargain

As usual the 2-3 kms of the road which is used to reach Ferry points and come out to the main roads from the Ferry point was in bad shape.

I rode for around 20-30 kms and reached Arunachal Police check post, they were not letting me go ahead to Roing. As permit did not say Roing in it.I argued with them and said,I need to go to Tezu and map talks about the route via Roing. So if i have taken the permit to Tezu,Roing should be covered in it.

Slowly i told them my plan to visit Annini, they said it will not be possible..because Annini is also not mentioned in the Permit.I requested them if something can be done, they firmly replied NO,As the Annini route is bit dangerous and lonely. We cannot take that risk. After much persuasion and request they advised me to go and visit OC of the Roing police station.

Roing was another 6-9 kms from the checkpost. There were quite a few restaurants in the town.Stopped for a breakfast at one of the eating joint, they served quite good Lachha Paratha with tea.Food was lovely and satisfying i Say

I moved to the Police station to take Permission from OC.I spoke to the Senior Inspector who was in-charge,I explained him about my ride and my previous rides i had done. With all the stories(real ones) i told to him,he let me go with one clause.I need to report back to the police station while returning back. Not a big deal i said and left for Annini.

Weather was quite clear as compared to the Ziro-Daporijo-Menchuka circuit, first 30-40 kms towards Annini gave quite a beautiful view of the plains..filled with backwater.

Major challenge for this circuit was of No Fuel Stations,No Hotels for night stay and only 2-3 eating joints in entire 220 kms stretch.People advised that fuel will be available in Annini in black. So i tanked up at Roing, which has only 01 fuel station.

As i moved ahead, fog started to gather.Which wasn't a good sign .In the matter of few kms it got cleared though, which was a big relief .The route was quite lonely, didnt found a single vehicle in the entire stretch till etaun.

                                A waterfall on the road

But i must admit, the beautiful scenery i witnessed cannot be described in the words.Green mountains raising high, till the sky...filled with dense and green forest.

Another beautiful waterfall, bang on the road

The Annini route is said to be a major land sliding and land sinking area.A so called live example of which i got to see before Etaun village, where a mini truck fell into a deep valley because of road sinking. There i met the OC of BRO who was the incharge of the roads maintained/repaired and created by BRO.Fortunately he was Engineer too..and looking at my passion about travelling on motorcycle,he offered me free food and stay at BRO camp in Etaun.

Notice the big black spot in the middle of land slide..that is the base of the mini truck which fell in the valley due to road sink.

That was a big relief, second time in day.Etaun was another 40 Kms from there and it was almost evening.I decided not to take much stops and try to reach the village before dark. But that didn't happened

I reached Etaun around 07 PM,it was all dark and i was unable to find the BRO camp.I saw few locals next to the road and asked them 'Where is BRO camp'
They seemed drunk and they felt bad about the way i asked them,According to them my tone was very high.So said sorry to them and requested again to guide me to the BRO.They did tell the way but gave me 20-30 mins lecture on the way of speaking to locals and all.I politely listened to them and left for the camp.

Folks at the BRO camp showed me the room, where i got settled down.Pretty soon the yummy dinner was there

It was time to crash to bed.

                                Cheers
