Very nice pics, I like your trip log. I am sorry to hear about the crash. I agree, riding gear protects you. My friend and team mate aborted the trip after a crash which dislocated his collar bone. However the Helmet and elbow pads protected the rest. So Next time I decided to tour with a full armour.

Rather look like a Robocop than be sorry

thanks for being genuinely concerned, but that tire had its run in, more than 800 km done before the accident. It was the tarmac actually if taken scientifically, and a warning from good if taken spiritually.

Thanks for appreciation, this is my first log, and I am not a good photographer though. Fully in agreement with your views on riding gears.

        @parry :-
OMG. Looks like it was some fall mate ... Great to know that not much damage to you and your bike sans the fairing. Thanks to forums like these that we bikers are educated about the importance of riding gears. I can imagine the type of tarmac you have mentioned. In fact we find such tarmac here on some of the state highway patches as well. However, kudos to your spirit. Keep it up mate. Next installment please.

@Avi :- Even you had a fall ? but great to know that there hasn't been much damage to you and your steed. Kudos to you as well. I am waiting for your log too. Chala lavkar lavkar log lhyayla suruvat kara.

That + the tyre not being of the same curvature profile! So a lean would mean you riding on the tyre wall!

                Day 8 22-June-12

I slept like a dead horse till 11 in the morning, my neck ached to the cramps from the fall. We decided to stay back for the day.

Bargaining is for the ladies, still we managed to rent a Shikara for 2 hours in a handsome price, it was already about sunset, and the Dal just appealed more.

It was 9, while we were muttering about the beauty of the lake & Srinagar itself, shikara nears the shore, and we were helped to get off it. Paying off the shikara man, we moved to get our bikes & moved to Lal chowk to check if something could be of help at that time in terms of bike servicing, since Akshay had been having issues in his front brake, and I wanted to buy a indicator bulb for my ninja.

                The Majestic Dal like

                Shikari in the Shikara

The Srinagar market area closes off by around 8, and we had no other option but to return for coming back the next day. We got ourselves a few medicines for the high altitude & went to our stay.

Going by the fact that how beautiful Kashmir is, we decided to spend the next half day for Gulmarg & later for oil change, servicing etc.

Celebrating the great evening we had, we slept after a few drinks, my body ache had vanished by now.

                Day 9 23-June-12

We woke up relatively early today, it was a chilly morning. Took our time to prepare for the striking meadows. Just after 25 kms of straights, where we could already see the snow clad mountains, the bends arrived our way. This was the best set of curves we had. Tall blossoming green poplar trees on the green carpets are treat to the eyes. It was unbelievably green here, something that I had just heard of or saw in movies/pics.

We were exploring each & every trail we were coming across, road or no road. And encountered a few dead ends.

                The unexplored trails

The Green Machine, in the Greens

This was now the best day I personally had, and I did not want to return from here. And how I regretted not carrying a tent, can never be explained. Consoling & reassuring myself that there is much more in Leh to be explored & watched.

Bidding goodbye to the enchantingly beautiful Gulmarg, we descended to Srinagar, after a delayed yet luxurious lunch at Mughal Darbar, we searched Lal chowk for 10W50, and after a lot of enquiries, we finally launched ourselves at an authorized bajaj SC. They had ELF 10w50, fully synthetic. Having no other choice, we agreed to change the oil with ELF.

Omar is an automobile engineer & works with Srinagar RTO (they have a different authority here), he had been running the service centre for last 4 years. He was very courteous, knowledgeable & funny too. We kept chatting for a long time, intermittently he had to shoo away people hovering our my Ninja.

Akshay changed his front disk brake & pads, I changed my indicator bulb, and both bikes had new oil.

About ELF Moto 4xt tech 10w50: It sure had a different feel immediately after the oil change from the DTSI oil. Gear shifts were smoother; the thud from the first to second was muted. I felt engine could roar more easily now.

2 days had got spent in Srinagar, and it felt like 2 hours or less. I wanted to see Dal once again, so we went onto a small ride on the Dal lake road, before going to our accommodation.

Friends, I have been tied up in audits at office, hence the long hours.

Somewhat also like a compensation to the long leaves i had .

Shall definitely move by this weekend.
