          Trip Log

Friends, here comes the log… finally! over 20 days after the trip ended. Please excuse us for the delay… I promise, you will enjoy the log & photos. For today it is the Pre-Log. Once you see the log you'd understand why I was pissed off at the MS Word crashing and draining my work with it!

          Thanks for bearing with me.

@Ravi, please link this post in the first post.

          Pre-Log (The Plan)

07 December 2008… we went on a short ride to Manjeera Dam and this is when Ravi spoke to me about his leaves and his itch to go for a long ride. He knows that I’ve been waiting for company for such a ride. We had 4 days in our hands – from 11 Dec 2008, Thursday till 14 Dec 2008, Sunday. Good enough to cover a far off place or two. Ravi Kiran was in two minds… to join us or not… he wants to come but no leaves available… finally he said he’d try to manage something for leaves!

My first suggestion was to the western ghat region in Maharashtra around Pune – the Panchghani and few other places around. Then came a suggestion which was an earlier plan by me – 4 day trip to Jog Falls & Horanadu in in Karnataka. The discussion sort of ended there… we knew we are going but spoke nothing of it… no plan… no preparation… nothing… until Ravi Kiran called me on the Tuesday night to check the routes in maps. We did an hour’s research and decided on some routes and a vague plan –

Day 1: Hyderabad – Gutty – Bellary – Chitradurga – Shimoga – Sagar (if possible)
Day 2: Sagar - Jog Falls – Agumbe – Somewhere on the way to Horanadu for Night
Day 3: Horanadu – Chikmagaluru – if possible, to Chitradurga
Day 4: Back to Hyderabad via Bellary – Gutty – Kurnool

Well, I know that everyone who knows about our trip is smiling at the plan listed here… so am I.

My troubles started by the time I ended the phone call with Ravi Kiran. 11th December is our wedding anniversary and my wife was furious at my plan… after a lot of discussion we decided to spend the day before going out so that I can leave on Thursday early morning. My Wednesday morning went in packing stuff, getting bungee chords, maps, going out & spending time for our advanced anniversary day! At about 9:30 pm, necklace road, my car doesn’t start… tried all the antics and decided that the fuel pump is gone (which happened earlier too), called up the mechanic, told him to attend the car next morning and that my wife would coordinate, requested the parking fellow to keep an eye (Mumbai Terrorist attacks were fresh in everyone’s mind…) and that we’ll get it repaired and move it before noon the next day… and left for home in an auto.

When I was about to hit the bed after 11:30 pm, I messaged both the Ravi’s and I have an instant call back… both of them are out for dinner and haven’t packed anything yet! Ravi Kiran told he’d getting the foot pump, so I’m relieved… my rear tyre was loosing pressure every day and I don’t have any more space left for the foot pump! Well, none of us had more than three hour sleep that night.

Following is the trip log, day wise. At times there’s information in bold that is given as:

Day :: Time :: Place :: Trip Count

          Riders & Rides

          Ravi Varma
          Ravi@17bhp - Karizma (Red) – ~30K KMs old – Petronas Sprinta 4T 5000
Canon SX2 IS – Dunlop GeoCruiser at rear, Front is stock
          Ravi Kiran
          caRaviKiran – Pulsar 220 (Blue) – ~30K KMs old – Motul 300V FL
Nokia N95 – Michelien Sirac at rear, Front is stock
          Krishna Prasad Reddy
          HydBiker – R15 (Blue) – ~6.5K KMs old – Petronas Sprinta 4T 5000
Kodak EasyShare 7.1 MP crap – Both tyres stock

All three of us had Cramster tank bags & another luggage bag tied on the back seat with bungee chords. We all had all the required kit for bikes but each one missed out on something for ourselves. I forgot to carry cash but both the Ravi’s has enough backup for me. They didn’t get blanket and something to help in cold.

The log would be worth the wait. I can assure you. I take time but do things my way

Is that the Dunlop Monster Ravi?

Ravi Kiran got the Saree tyre after Christmas.

@PKM, it was indeed quite something to take the R15 up the hill in darkness!

Wow! lovely log. That would encourage a sober biker like me to think to do this trip to the "bikers paradise". And going by the log, the darkness added to the thrill of doing this route. Now what was that bulb ravi anna was talking??? ah!! the silverstar!!!

If I plan to do this and do with out big breaks I might pull this off in a single day. But the question is will I be able to take the torture on my bike(zeuBUsA)???!!!

You said that you are not going back this route in the return so there must another route. Does this another route touch Bellary – Challakere??

                        Raj.

Will inform you about the next trip. How about Horsley Hills?
                            Yes, Ravi had the SilverStar.

If the Platina can make it to Vizag from Orissa, your zeuBUsA can do it in a much better way... just get something done for that obstructive seat!

Nope. If you have to touch Bellary, you must be ready for 30KM's of torture between Bellary & Gutty. If in a car, just forget that the car is yours.

Day 2 will come up today but might need some more time for Day 3 as the power cuts is killing me. My ERO was in rural region and recently shifted to City region. Power cuts started since then )
