  • [Photo Feature]: Breaking Free! Goa Once More!

“I want to break free! I’ve got to break free! Queens’s rock anthem rolled out of the stereo, prompting the need to ride, to hit the highway again to visit our all time favorite haunts- Goa- once more….

So, on the 1st of May on a balmy summer morning, saddle bags and haversack loaded we take off on our three week sojourn to the sun, sand and beaches of enchanting Goa.

With so many visits and loads of pictures, writing another log on Goa has become quite a task! But this lovely little place has so much to offer in so many beautiful ways that I’ll try to make the pictures tell most of the story

    The onward route:
    Bangalore/Tumkur/Hiriyur/Chitrdurga/Davanagere/Hubli/Yellapur/Ankola/Karwar/Canacona/Margao/Majorda- 665 KM

We’re out of the city early. It helps to beat the rush hour traffic and make the best of the morning cool hours. Soon we are on to the by now too familiar NH4. It can get quite boring; this seemingly endless stretch of tarmac, but it’s the quickest route to get to Goa

We stop for breakfast at Chitragurga (a 200 Km ride) and later hit the highway again and by around noon we are onto the Hubli bypass and onto Yellapur road. It’s a nice stretch this road, sparse traffic and smooth. Though initially quite dry, it got greener by and by.

Once we enter NH17 the traffic increases and as always it pays to be cautious on this stretch. Shortly we pass Karwar and cross the border into Goa.

It’s always a special feeling even just entering Goa. The ambience is so very different from most other places. By evening we reach Majorda where we are to spend the next three weeks. Sun, sand and siestas. Loafing on laid back beaches and watching some glorious sunsets which we can never tire of. It’s time to celebrar, relaxar and festa as the Portugese would say (celebrate, relax and party!)

Beautiful is not really the right word to describe Goa. It’s multifaceted and seems to have a built in ‘unwind’ button. We seem to automatically relax and party at the same time leaving the rest of the world behind. The lovely beaches and laid back lifestyle is a real rejuvenation.

Yes we left home at 6a.m and reached Majorda at around 6.15 p.m. The roads were mostly great and that really helped. Our anniversary was this month and that made it quite special

Having practically explored almost the whole of Goa over the years, we keep looking for another road to ride, another quaint fishing village or another deserted beach. And always a surprise or two pops up which makes us stop and admire. And there is nostalgia all around, the little roads we have travelled and cute little joints we have relaxed at. The warm smiles and hellos of old acquaintances and breaking bread with friends- a truly special feeling.
