Re: Exploring the wet western ghats and rainy beach

After long delay and some bashing from fellow riders, here I am ready with the day 1 log:

As mentioned earlier that we goofed up during the start of the ride and all blame should go to the long tiring week of a SE. planned to ride out at 4 AM so that we can reach Hassan max by 8 AM and then can enjoy the Ghats during the broad daylight. Well ofcourse, man proposes and God disposes. Needed one BPL( Bum Pein Laat ) by sruce2002 around 5:30 AM to get up and then got ready in a haste. Thankfully, we had our Saddle bags, camera's etc packed up by the previous night, so not much time was lost . 6 AM we started and already the truck traffic started slowing us down at many places. Somehow crossed Yeshwantpur and reached Neelmangala by 6:45 AM. Saw a group of rider waiting there. Maybe another rain ride was in the making. Had tea and started again. In little more than a hour we covered another 100 KM and were in a reaching distance of Hassan. Stopped at Athithi restaurant and had an awesome breakfast. Dosa, Vada and 2 hot cups of tea. By the time we were done and were gearing up again for the ride witnessed another riding group ( a Black Duke, Blue RE, Green CBR and a black pulsar). Exchanged some smiles and we marched on. This was the time when Rain god showed some mercy and started pouring . The whole purpose of this ride was to get drenched and more drenched. Speed reduced but the soul was brimming. continued forward with couple of more breaks and finally when we thought that the weather is little clear to bring out the DSLR's the photographic soul took over

Moved just 5 kms ahead from this point and witness one very bad accident between a truck and a bus. Had to stop there for an hour to let the med guys do the needful. My mood went down really after seeing blood on the road. Mangalore was still 75 KM's away and we decided to take it as go slow from here. Prayed to the God for the speedy recovery of the injured ones and moved on. 2 hours later we reached the outskirts of Mangalore, courtesy heavy rains and dampened spirits because of the accident. Decided to take a spin of the Suratkal beach. Ninja hasn't yet tasted the sand and NS had been to 2 beached already.

Reached Suratkal beach by around 4 PM and parked the bikes there for some snaps

Had friendly chat with local people on the beach and went to the city to find some hotels, only to find that almost every hotels in Suratkal are full because of NIT admissions people from all over India have come and have booked the hotels. Returned back to Mangalore, got a decent lodge for 400 bucks. Freshened up got ourselves dried and had some hot tea and pakoda's. by this time it was already 6:30 and we decided to have dinner and sleep early so that we can get up early the next day.
neil9381 I am keeping the Ninja ownership experience for the last, after I complete the day 2 log. Hope you can wait for some more time

Ninja..umhhh..Sane riding i.e gear shifting by 5K rpm and keeping the bike in the 5-7K rpm gives me 29 KMPL. aggressive ho gaye and you go ito the "Ninja" band i.e. 9K 10K rpm then 26-27KMPL tak de deti hai..I guess a light rider( I am 95) can get 30 with sane riding...but then again Ninja is meant to be ripped

But the most ridiculous thing we saw that few people taking snaps of that accident with their mobile phones.

Definitely best time for a monsoon ride. Before starting the ride, we took lot of information about the road conditions. From every where we got wrong information like broken road, flooded road, people avoid this road in monsoon time etc etc. So we decided if we can't cross we can enjoy western ghats - kegenari forest, Gundya etc. But road was too good & we enjoyed the ride.

There are heartless people everywhere. We saw 2 buses in a mangled state due to a head on collision earlier. Driver of one bus died on spot. Instead of helping the medics, people were more interested in taking pics and looking into the broken pieces of the bus.
