A ROADTRIP TO LAND OF PASSES ZANSKAR AND LADAKH

After a successful ride to mecca of bikers ladakh and a trek of amarnath yatra in june 2012,I was in a dilema what to choose between spiti and zanskar along with ladakh. In october 2012 i participated in truewanderer2 contest and my blog was selected in top ten.I had to choose a ride for seven days and no other option left to choose between spiti and zanskar in bone freezing november end.So my spiti desire fulfilled in november which was sponsered by Wrangler,Myntra.com,Xbhp and Hoppr. The only option left for me now to do a "Roadtrip to land of passes Zanskar and ladakh".

So the preperations began and met broadminded people like Sanchit gulati and Deepak kumar over facebook in which Amit nayan's entry was at the last moment. The final date decided for the roadtrip was 25th may 2013, we decided to do a premeet before the 25th at karol Bagh to buy some spares and further planning for the trip.we all met in karol bagh and bought everything which was needed for the trip.Days passed and the judgement day came,it was a sleepless night and the alarm rang at sharp 2 am.I was ready in an hour and made the call to other fellow riders. The flagoff point for the ride was set at Mukarba chowk new delhi flyover and we all were excited to start our journey of lifetime. Some pics taken and hand shakes all around with all the friends and Fsr riders who came there to wish us good luck for the journey ahead. At 4 am we started our most awaited journey to the land of lamas, glaciers, stupas, lakes, roads less travelled and ofcource the world famous deadly and dangerous passes in himalyas.

Cameras and lenses which used in the trip:

                  Nikon D5100 + 18-55 + 35MM + 70-300,CPL Filter,for Videos samsung galaxy s2.

Here is little information about the riders who made this trip successful and memorable one with collective efforts.

Sanchit Gulati from delhi works in advertising field

Deepak Gupta from Delhi (me) self employed

Deepak Kumar from Haryana works with Eicher (Royal Enfield)

Amit Nayan from Delhi is in IT company

25th May Delhi to Mansar Lake resort 590 km

Left delhi at 4 am with nice and cool breeze with us,Riding on NH1 was pure bliss with almost no traffic and we quickly reached karnal toll at 6.57 am and took a tea break of 15 minutes.Passed 15 minutes of time at toll and we were again on the highway and stopped near Rampur for lunch break at 12pm.Filled our empty tummy with delicious paranthas on roadside dhaba. It was getting too hot in the afternoon and we were riding our horses like crazy cowboys to reach target of the day which was udhampur/jammu.Entered jammu & kashmir at 7 pm with some tiredness and bypassed the jammu. It was pitch dark after 8 pm and we were riding on bad roads at NH1,Loose stones and potholes making it worst to ride at night.Stopped at a dhaba and enquired about any hotel nearby and got better news of a resort 5 km ahead.Reached Mansar lake resort at 10 pm and booked a room for 1000 rs.Around 18 hours of riding our machines in hot conditions made us tired and we were in dreams of ladakh quickly

                            My preparation for photographs

26th May Mansar lake to Qazigund 198 km

Everyone was perfectly ready at 9 am after the morning rituals and visited the Mansar Lake which was quite well maintained.Spend an hour there and moved forward for our further journey.we were cruising nicely and enjoying the gorgeous greenery of nature,Sanchit stopped and told that somethging is wrong with his bike.Enquired for a mechenic from local and got it 3km ahead.Fault found was all the oil from shockers leaked out,Warboy took half an hour to regain health Tonic from The Doctor and was perfectly okk after a small shocker operation.

Crossed Patni Top at around 11 am and settled down for a lunch break at Moti mahal restaurent at 12 pm.What we saw when we came outside the room that weather was getting worst and about to rain anytime,So we covered our luggage with plastic sheets and it was a wise decision to do it.As soon as we left restaurent rain welcomed us with nasty winds. We had no option other than to ride in heavy rain,Sometimes cutting through the strong winds was a looking like a huge task.

These companies like Cramster,Dsg and Nerve fools every customer being said that their jackets are 100% waterproof are total bullshit what they says.We all were shivering like hell because we were totally wet:mad. We were stopped by police officer at Jawahar Tunnel 6pm,He said It's closed for 1 hour.We had to stay in army's tin shed, got some relief getting some heat from fire which was kept alive by army in their shed.An officer came and offered us to stay there. We asked him about the opening of tunnel,he replied in Hindi "Tunnel ke us paar pakistaan hai aur tum india me khade ho wahan to kutta bhi nahin poochta yahan to tumhe insaan pooch raha hai"We were totally shocked to listened that.Half an hour passed and tunnel opened for our side of traffic and we decided to leave from there and find any accomodation after the tunnel..Inside the tunnel a big problem arised with sanchit's bull,Bull stopped in the middle of tunnel and didn't start.Long line up of trucks behind us started honking madly.Sanchit tried to start it with many kicks and the Warboy roared again,Covered 500m in tunnel and again it showed some tantrums but successfully crossed the mighty long tunnel after some attempts.

Crossed the tunnel and other side we got heavy rain, dense fog with zero visiblity,It was a kind of scary moments as it was getting dark,Water was running ferociously everywhere on roads and nothing could be seen ahead except white fog.Somehow we reached Quazigund at 8 pm,got the hotel for rs 700rs and a gas heater for drying our clothes which were totally wet.Went out for some food and back in to the room in half an hour,Now the big task ahead to dry our jackets and our clothes. It took around 3 hours to dry all the things, got some relief and went to sleep quickly as clock was showing 12.30pm.

Quality of some PICS may be not too good because they were taken from mobile cam samsung galaxy s2
                              Spreading calmness
