Re: Ladakh 2014 - The Most happening ride of my life till the end
Thanks for this huge response.
I am getting regular calls daily to upload more pics. I feel highly sad that you will have to wait for some more tome. Please bear with me.
As a matter of fact while returning on the last, I had met with an accident at 1.00 a.m. early morning near Sukhdev Dhaba. While driving in the inner most lane at 90+ kmph, there was a cut in the pavement for facilitating u turn and thereafter the pavement was constructed a little bit with projected angle which came right in front of my line of drive. I hit the huge side-stone with great force.
Rest is history. Got injuries in my neck and my right hand is not fully functional. I am recovering fast.
Working on some mind blowing videos of this trip from my bed.
I WILL BE BACK SOON.

Re: Ladakh 2014 - The Most happening ride of my life till the end
Day 2 – 11.06.2014 – Koksar- BARALACHA- Saarchu
After a comfortable night stay, got up early as usual. Check the bike. Looks good. After one or two self starts using choke, it comes into life. Now time to finish my daily chores. In another half an hour I am ready for breakfast. The sky is clear. Finish my Aaloo Ka Parantha with hot tea. Wear my riding gears. Time to move.
VIEW FROM KOKSAR
Riding through Koksar to Patsio is always a lovely experience. This part has plenty of greenery with breathtaking vistas, live stock, farmers working in the small fields, the road meandering down the hills, riding through the water streams overflowing on the road damaging it at a number of places after crossing Sissu itself.
No need to fill up petrol at Tandi as I have 16+ litre tank with 47+ mileage in these hills. Road condition gets deteriorated at few places as I cross Keylong at around 11.30 a.m.
Time to take Tea break. Not many riders met so far. Here only find just two bikes parked. May be as the day unfolds, might find some more on the way.
Crossing Jispa. Find couple of hotels and tented accommodation. Good place with beautiful vista to relax. But have to move. Baralacha is not far.
Find huge water crossing at regular intervals now. Find one foreigners team of 10-12 bikers on Triumph coming from Baralacha side at one big water crossing.
HERE EXPERIENCE COUNTS
As I have already crossed to other side, advise them to take a particular track through the water which was quite safe. But the first one just hits the deepest point and gets struck. Has to be pushed to the other side. Now the others react more sensibly. Sometimes it is not the machine but the experience that counts.
DIRECT FROM THE ICE AGE
As I am ascending towards Baralacha find snow covered mountains all over. As I get into the thick of it, it is white carpet all over as far as I can see. Water crossing on the road at every few metres.
Only one vehicle can pass through the high snow walls. Cannot see beyond. It is freezing cold. Here met a group of bikers who are on their way to Ladakh. Hardly a few vehicles have crossed in the last 90 minutes.
Direct from the ICE AGE. Find frozen lakes, Suraj Taal no exception, huge amount of ice lets dropping down the huge snow walls.
It looks like DREAM LAND. Had seen it only in Hollywood movies. Loving it. Don’t know when did I cross Baralacha as it was high snow walls all over.
FROZEN LAKES
One SUV coming from opposite side asks “Is there traffic Jam at Baralacha” and my reply is, Bhai Abhi to Baralacha Aana Hai. The driver says, Sir you have crossed Baralacha!!!! There was no traffic jam, I finally answer his query.
But there is always an end to good things. It is around 4.30 p.m. Now I am descending Baralacha although still through thick snow and huge water crossings down below. Need to move faster. It is still very cold. Reaching Saarchu. Time is around 5.30 p.m. There are thick clouds ahead. Not advisable to move. Time to find accommodation immediately. See a couple of luxary tented accommodation on the way. Stop at one such place. They are still i the process of installing the tents. It is their first day. Ask for rent. 1000 rupees !!
NOT A BAD DEAL
Find it costly. They ask my quote. 150 Rupees as I can get accommodation for this amount in some normal tented accommodation provided by roadside tented restaurants. Finally agreed at Rs. 250 with meal. It is a deal. The make a final setting in one tent and I am now on my bed. The quilts, blanket, mattress and carpet are all brand new. Not a bad deal.
