    Re: Day Rides

This set of pictures is from last weekend's ride to Malshej Ghat. We set out a little earlier than usual at 6:50 am for a 330 km round trip. The approach via Narayangaon is slow owing to traffic and a narrow road dotted with many small towns along the way. Once past the winding narrow streets of Narayangaon the road opens up a little with the majestic Malshej Ghat in the foreground which beckons you. The road is fantastically paved with sweeping curves after the crest which is a little after the MTDC resort heading towards the descent, approx 40 km, which allowed us to open up the throttle a bit and test our skills. Gurpratap and I thoroughly enjoyed this particular stretch. The return leg was arduous due to traffic and we reached home at 2 pm. Gurpratap deserves a bravery award as he rode without a jacket liner battling the morning chill.

      Re: Day Rides

This set of pictures is from last weekend's ride to Goa for India Bike Week (IBW) 2015. We left at 6am Friday with the weather plummeting south on the highway all the way till Nipani after which it began to warm up. We caught up with some bikers who were also heading for the show and for some part a Kawasaki Z800 kept with us. After mounting the gopro camera past Belgaum we began the lovely ride on Chorla ghat to reach Goa 2.30pm where we had lunch at Fat Fish and then proceeded to Hillside Huts, Nerul our hotel for the next two days. After chilling out for a while and freshening up we rode out to Vagator for IBW 2015 on Gurpratap's Bonneville. Registration formalities completed, we proceeded to park the bike inside and headed for the nearest watering hole off which there were five and then on to Triumph's stall. The evening was a blast though we were tired as it was a long day and with little sleep the previous night we decided to head back earlier than planned for a quick dinner and sleep. We woke up a little late and after breakfast we decided to wash down the bikes with the help of the nice boy Ranjan who served us our meals. We then headed to Cafe Lazy Days at Calangute for a leisurely lunch and returned back to the hotel after some spirit shopping. We left for IBW early evening and this time around with some sunlight we checked out the rest of the stalls. Wde left at sunset to head for Fat Fish where we decided to chill with some draught beer, good food and Goan hospitality. As Fat Fish was located on the road which led to Vagator, we were able to check out a great number of bikes in comfort. North Goa was buzzing with bikes of all sorts - Nirvana. After an early dinner we crashed for the night at 11pm. We left for Pune on the return leg of our ride at 6am when some monkey sporting flags on a Harley decides to suddenly stop and meditate on a speed-breaker with his flags getting entangled in my RVM. Grrr! The ride back was awesome especially with a large number of bikes all heading back home, we took some more video footage on Chorla. On NH4 I suddenly realized a pack of Harleys trying to do their darnedest best to chase me. Lol, a slight twist of the throttle past 130kmph put them all out of sight and out of mind. The comradrie and spirit of biking was in high gear with much waving, nodding, thumbs-up and gentlemanly manners between bikers and was truly a pleasure to experience. We bumped in to Amol who stopped to chat with us and share some brotherhood. He was on his return leg to Pune after heading to Trivandrum via Ooty etc on a Honda 150cc bike. A lid off to you bro. There were guys and gals all dressed in riding gear sporting superb bikes between their legs, what more can one want aye! We reached home at 2:30pm.

This is a must-do event, especially if you ride a HD. Riders from all over the country were there and one could say "all roads led to Goa"

                    Re: Day Rides

This set of pictures is from a day ride Gurpratap and I did a couple of weekends back to Malshej and then returned via Kalyan - Panvel bypass to return back to Pune via the old Mumbai-Pune highway. The descent from MTDC Malshej ghat almost all the way till Kalyan on NH222 was exceptional. Then the most filthiest stretch of land, the Kalyan-Pune bypass, which was heaped with garbage and crowds of people which felt like they were reproducing as they walked greeted us. This 50km odd was a miserable stretch to say the least. Nevertheless, we came out of it all smelling like roses and in no time were in Lonavala for lunch and then home by 4pm.

                      Re: Day Rides

This video from last weekend's ride to Lavasa. Buddy Kurush, a long time riding buddy of mine, is getting hitched in April. This probably a last bachelor ride dude, lots of memories.

A while back when on an overnight ride with the "sore arse riders" group, we were gassing around in the evening, when the all-important topic came up as to "why we ride?" Most had super reasons, but the one that stuck home was "I ride because I run from my home". In some context or the other, doesn't riding a motorcycle give you that sense of freedom? Ask yourself.
