Re: A ride to an undiscovered Heaven - Chanshal Pass

As you all know this ride is done by 3 riders so i will love to add the next phase of this ride from Roorkee
As usual we started early in the morning 10 Am and Amresh also wake up on time at 9:45 AM.
That day surprisingly he brushed his teeth and took bath.
And after that our long journey started towards Chakarta, Of course after a long break for Breakfast.
As my Black beauty just went through a critical bypass i changed the Oil, we did not have any container to drain the oil so we cut a PET bottle and use it as a container.
We didnt notice that if we cut a 1 lr bottle then it cant hold 900 ml engine oil so ended up in a mess oil on the floor and our hands.
But we manage to change the oil and started towards chakrata.

On Our way we have taken lots of wrong cut and somehow reached Saharanpur. When we reach Saharanpur we come to know that we are in U.P and Yamuna Nagar is in H.R. and we come wrong all the way from delhi.
I dont want to go to Dheradun so with the help of Fat and his always helpfull Nokia Maps we figured out another way.

On our way to saharanpur i made a mistake to follow Ami during a overtake and suddenly a Mahindra Chota hathi with high un-controlled speed appear in front of me.
All the Adrenalin pumped in my body and by God Grace i made that overtake safely. I was worried that both the guys will abuse me but luckly they didnt even notice that.

From Saharanpur we encountered off road for 50 KM first time in our journey. Horrible roads but we loved it because it was a new experience for all three of us i wont include Fat (Reneav) worst experience he had in night.
Although we continue our journey to Kalsi.
Because of a police checkpoint we need to make a stop and we assumed that they want to see our documents suddenly i realized that i and ami don't have insurance so i started acting to open all the luggage just to show them that's its going to take a long. But they were not interested in our documents.
They asked us our address, bike type and nearest police station of our houses.
In a general talk with a police wala we came to know that they are doing this because lots of bikers being robbed off their in that area and we should make a halt in chakarta.

We made a quick stop near a water fall and click some pic.

So we again started our journey to Chakarta and started climbing the mountain.
before chakarta we meet with @Hoodibaba and his group Bipin and Thyagaraj they waved us on our way and Fat had a chat with them during riding.
we continue our journey to Chakarta and reached there before sunset. Me and Ami enjoyed Sunset at that place and by that time @Hoodibaba and his group Bipin and Thyagaraj also reached there, We had a conversation with them regarding the same passion we share TOURING.

There we made a halt and started looking for places to pitch our tents.
in a chat with a local guy we came to know that the guy was a police wala and again we need to give them all the details.

Amresh was not feeling well and don't want to stay in a tent so we drop the plan to pitch tent and stayed in a Guest House Himgiri (600 to 800 Per room)
As he asked for the ID i gave him my original DL. which i forgot to take back and still waiting to get it back.

we went out for our Dinner at Share Punjab Hotel, Food was kind of OK not soo good but no other place to eat so we ended up filling our stomach and went back to the rooms.

IN the room again we talk about all the shitty stuff happens in life and talked crap about each other and abused each other too. Then we got bored with abusing each other so started watching TV (700 rent only for of 11" COLOR TV) we watched Kick movie only, because cable operator have only one channel and fell asleep. We asked the person to provide separate bed and ended up sleeping on the same double bed Ami sleep in the middle and suffered because of less space .
Next day morning when we woke up Fat asked me to look outside and we found that @Hoodibaba and his group Bipin and Thyagaraj are getting ready to start for the day.
We went down and had a conversation with them they were planing to go to Tiger fall first and then make a halt to hatkoti.
I was not in a mood to ride that early so we decided to stay in Chakarta another reason was Amresh who as usual was on time sleeping.
Finally Ami woke up and we went out from the hotel and kill time in clicking Pic and having Tea.

Then we came back to the hotel and finish daily routine and started for the day to reach CHANSAL Pass, which we didn't make on the same day as usual.
As soon as we started towards Tuni we encountered slippery rods and black beauty started skidding when i talk to fat regarding this. Ami and fat didn't face any problem because of his Buud Buud RE and the nice tires fat got on his black pearl . (Main reason why to select a bullet for touring). I reduce some air from front tire to get better grip on the road and again started.
we made many halt because of tea, taking pic and PIA (Pain in A**).

By that time me and Fat was worried that we wont be able to make it to destination on time so we discussed this with AMI and our dear "Mr i Think I know Everything" calculate the time which we going to take is 5 Hr to reach chansal pass as per because 50 KM/ 280 hard coded AVG as per his expert opinion.
we reached Tyuni and Ami bike was as usual hungry for fuel, because there is no petrol pump so we filled fuel from a local guy at 90rs per lt. we had a great lunch in Tyuni and started for Hatkoti on nice roads.
We reached to Rohru at 6:30 PM where i got chain tighten in the evening and also we met with a nice mechanic who fix Ami bood bood indicator. He share some tricks to fix bood bood in case if its show some problems.
he also suggest us to continue till lalot for the day and make a halt there. But as usual we stopped because ami didnt want to go further and his expert advice says we can get back home on time.
We rent a room in River View Hotel and unpack all the bags. Me and Fat was constantly keeping track of Oil level in our bike and Ami was not worried about his bike oil level (because it contain 3 Lt of oil and less 1 LT wont make big difference for him
We had a crappy talk about all the stuff and watched some cool movie on big TV. we ordered some snacks and went to bed.

Re: A ride to an undiscovered Heaven - Chanshal Pass

Ok.. When we reached Rohru, we didn't have any plans to stay back. we thought we can go a bit further atleast till Chirgaon.. But our illfated RE needed Winker rod replacement.. yikes..

As soon as we reached Rohru, The first thing Amresh did was looking out for Fuel outlet as his bike was running out of fuel.. me and Manoj filled up our bike tanks as well as we were not sure if any fuel outlets will be on our way and we didn't want to spend 90/- for fuel in grey market.. once we filled up the tanks, I calculated the FE for each bike..

Bullet returned 35 kmpl
RTR180 returned 40 kmpl
ZMR returned 47.6 kmpl

35 kmpl for a bull is pretty neat if you ask me.. once his bike returned 39 kmpl when we did Nepal ride..

After we filled up the tanks, Amresh started looking out for spare parts store to get his bulls rear left winker rod fixed. Meanwhile, I wanted to get the chain lubricated and tightened so I suggested Manoj to do the same. My chain was tight enough but needed to be lubed..

Since the winker rod wasn't available, Amresh went ahead asking us to come once our work here was done..

we moved ahead and noticed Amresh with a Mechanic.. The mechanic seemed like an expert on RE as there were so many RE bike standing outside his garage..

While getting it fixed, the mechanic (Sonu) started giving us advises on what to do if in case the Bull stops inbetween and refuses to stop.. Since it was getting dark, Amresh didn't want to go further and he started asking for Rooms availability.. Sonu asked us to go till Larot and we can get very good accomodation..

Amresh before we reached the mechanic spot had a conversation with the Mechanic and he informed that 3 guys today afternoon came to him to get one of their RE thunderbird foot peg fixed.. When inquired what had happened, the mechanic said one of them hit a cow and had a crash..

The immediate thing that struck our minds was @Hoodibaba, Bipin and Thyagu.. we got tensed and I tried to contact DK sir.. his phone was switched off and we were praying they are safe and hoping if it was one of them who had a crash, nothing should have happened to the rider.. we tried to contact DK sir the whole of the night but with vain..

Manoj somehow managed to convince me into going till Larot when Amresh was against it..

The reason he gave was he is tired and he didn't want to take risk going further.. Amresh said the USUAL "We will leave early morning at 7AM" and he assured it.. though me and Manoj knew it isn't going to happen, we accepted to it and went upto Rohru bus stand to look for a hotel room to stay in.. but we turned back and went the way we came.. Manoj saw a hotel name River view Hotel and went up to inquire about the accommodation and rates..

He came back in 5 minutes to say it will cost us 675 + 150 for an additional bed.. the rooms is fantastic and I think we can take a halt here.. I asked if they have parking to park our bikes and Manoj pointed his finger to the side and said we have to park our bikes here.. Then my conscious mind started thinking about various "What If" questions.. I immediately said, "No! I am not parking my bike on the road". Manoj was ready to look out for other accommodations but I didn't want to disturb him so decided to stay back as he gave assurance about the safety of our bikes..

We unpacked and got the things to the room.. we watched some movies, ordered some snacks and my favourite "Chilly Paneer". then we had some crazy discussions.. talking about many things which cropped into our lazy minds at that moment.. sharing so many bull shit we can think of.. asking craziest questions to each-other..

i spoke with my fiance and she said "have fun and don't keep thinking about me. This is the time you can enjoy" I was touched with it though I wanted to speak with her.. Spoke with her for some good 5 minutes while Manoj went to speak with his wife..

Then we were thinking about our plan..

Initially, our plan was to stay back in Chanshal Pass for a night, pitch the tent, do some trekking and enjoy one full day and turn back to New Delhi.. In-between, Manoj changed the plan and said we will go to chanshal Pass and then move to Jalori Pass hitting the Great Himalayan National Park, pitch our tent there and the next day move back to New Delhi via Aut, Mandi, chandigarh..

The night we spent in Chakrata made him take this decision.. as it was pretty cold and we had nothing but our Tents and jackets.. no sleeping bags and not very comfortable blankets..

I kept warning Amresh if he doesn't get ready by 7 to hit Chanshal Pass, I am going to kick his balls and wake him up.. as we will have to reach Great Himalayan National Park the next day.. which is going to be in a tough terrain..

After all this discussion, we decided we will go to bed and sleep for the night..

Hi Rreneav

As I opted to wait for Sukhi at Rohru (who was coming direct from Delhi), I asked Bipin and Thiyagu to move ahead. After two and half hour wait Sukhi showed up at around 5.00 p.m. After a brief stop over, we two also started towards Chansal Pass. At Larot we stopped at the Last Dhaba enroute Chansal Pass and it was getting dark and foggy. By that time Thiyagu and Bipin had reached Chansal Pass (17 kms ahead) and sent us a message via a truck driver (as signals were weak) asking us to stay back as it was too much foggy ahead besides being too cold. Since Sukhi had his first big ride in tough terrains, we two stayed back at the dhaba, pitched our tent inside the Dhaba whereas Bipin and Thiyagu pitched their tent ahead of Chansal Pass near the small temple for the night. We two rode to Chansal Pass next morning.

Re: A ride to an undiscovered Heaven - Chanshal Pass

My alarm rings at 5:15 AM during the weekdays as I hit the gym at about 5:45 AM. on Saturdays, the alarm is set to 6:30 AM.. I kinda forgot that it is a Saturday. Thinking the alarm will ring at 5:15 AM I slept the previous day.. I suddenly wake up in the night to see the time is 5 AM.. thinking I will wake up in 15 minutes when the alarm rings. The alarm rings and I wake up to see the time is 6:30 AM..

I did my morning chores, woke up Manoj and tried to wake up Amresh.. but it is nearly impossible to wake him up..

Me and Manoj went down to check on our bikes. They were safe and sound.. I took my bike to a flat surface used the surface level app to see the level.. Opened the oil level to see how much oil is left in the bike.. It was normal.. I topped up a little so that I don't face any issues.. Meanwhile, Manoj ran to the room saying I have to go to Potty

I opened the seat and was checking out the charger whether it is working fine.. and viola.. it was working just perfect..

then Manoj came down with the Air compressor to check the Air pressure.. we were surprised to see Manoj bike had an air pressure of 70 psi at the rear and 50 psi up in front.. Amresh bike had less air so we filled it up and my rear tire had 40 psi.. we reduced the pressure in Manoj's bike..

then I asked Manoj what Ami is doing.. He replied as usual, lying down in the bed and said he has ordered Chai for them..

we went up and I forced Ami to wake up by saying "Manju (Manoj's pet name), let Ami sleep. We both will go to chanshal and come back by the time he wakes up". Not sure if this made Ami angry, he woke up the next second and went to the washroom.. he came out after 20 minutes.. took the brush and paste.. He came out after 30 minutes.. when we asked if had taken bath, he said "AHoles, I was brushing my teeth".

Meanwhile, Manoj changed the complete plan. He was saying he wanted to pitch the tent in chanshal and stay a night. To Be frank, we were not prepared for the cold night to pitch a tent.. We didn't have proper blankets or a sleeping bag and nothing to keep us warm..

for which he said, we will get somethings on rent and we will purchase few things which might come in handy.. When I asked him about the plan to hit Delhi, he said we will leave from Chanshal tomorrow early morning and go non-stop.. Then he went downstairs to check up with the reception guy about the temperature and climatic conditions up in Chanshal.. The guy informed that it will be cold and it is safe to pitch the tent up there at night..

somehow made him get ready and we were ready by 8:35 AM..

We took all our bags down to the reception where I paid the bills.. all this while, Manoj went out to buy some utensils to prepare maggi.. then he enquired about mats to sleep on in Tent which will keep us warm.. they said it was on our way to Chirgaon.. We tied our bags and we're set to go.. we left from the place and we found a place where we can get the mats.. we purchased 3 mats each of 1 meter length and 6 ft in height costing 130 per meter..

We tied the mats to one each of our bikes and moved forward.. We were yet to buy things to eat..

We hit Chirgaon in an hour covering 20 kms where we purchased a knife, lots and lots of snacks, maggi and we decided to get water somewhere near Larot.. We packed up snacks on Manoj's bike and moved from Chirgaon..

This was just before we started climbing up to Chanshal.. The roads were narrow and steep at the same time... with Hair pin bends which are steepy as well..

More to come later on in the day as I have some work to do at the moment

Cheers,

====

After the so called Photo-shoot, we started ascending and we were told it would take us 4 hrs to reach Chanshal Peak.. so our estimated time of reaching Chanshal was 1 PM to 1:30 PM.. as we ascended, the roads turned from worse to worst.. infact, no roads.. all sand and rocks here and there.. This experience was not only perfect but a memory that will last forever.. The hair pin bends were simply perfect in nature.. the way the truck wala took the turns made me wonder how they got used to this and how would they have reacted the first time they experienced these roads.. the roads were narrow.. very narrow in fact only one truck can go. if any vehicle comes in between, then it is a bizarre situation. we encountered many such situations where we were unable to get past the truck walas..

We couldn't resist but stop when we saw plenty of apple trees with those lovely juicy apples hanging.. We stopped by the side, plucked out 3 Apples (credits go to manojmsoni) and started eating them.. we first cleaned them and the first bite of that apple felt like I am drinking apple juice.. they were so damn juicy and tasty, we couldn't stop from plucking another 3 to eat

An Apple a Day, keeps the doctor away

we spent some 15 minutes there enjoying the lovely apples and plucked a couple more and kept it in our bags to have later.

as we moved on, the roads were too steep making us wonder whether we are going on the correct direction. We asked few guys there and they said we were on the right path.. We haven't had our breakfast yet and at the same time, we were on a look out for packaged water bottles.. as we moved for another 4 kms, (took us almost 30 minutes) we found apples in a reachable height.. we plucked some 10 apples and while we were doing that, 3 trucks and a car passed by showing us Thumbs Up. we in turn gave a thumbs up back at them

My bag was over packed that my bike wasn't able to balance out on the side stand.. even a little pressure from the wind would have made it fall on the side stand side.. so I was making sure I don't let that happen..

we again spent some 10 minutes there plucking the apples and thinking where we can keep them.. after another hour of riding, we finally made it to Larot where we had Maggi, some biscuits to have later and tea..

We had a great time here and when asked how much more we have to ride to reach Chanshal Peak, they said 21 kms and it will take us an hour and a half as the roads turn out to be far more worse than now..

We quickly fill up some water and started back towards the tents. It was getting dark and fogg and cold was started hitting us so we started worrying about the coming night.

When we reach back found that Ami didn't collect any wood and was on phone. We both where surprise I mean that was the only place us though there wont have any signal and he was talking. I pull out my phone and check there was no signal so do on Reneav phone. So we stare Mr i think i know everything(Ami) and came to know that guy also carry a BSNL number which is working at some specific location on the pass ( Outside of tents). The weather was getting bad at that time. Less light high wind and COLD FOGG was few of the thing which we started worrying about.

We (Me and Fat) collect some wood and try to start a fire which we was not able to do because of high wind. i Came up with an idea to put some patrol on a cleaning cloth and start fire using that. Fat quickly bring one cloth dipped in his bike patrol tank and Eureka, we invented fire we quickly put the pot filled with half water to cook some maggi (Both me and Fat was hungry like hell and it was almost night) everything was a bit wet and it was freezing cold on the pass.
We all three somehow manage to cook maggi there and enjoy it like hell. We talk about some crap which usually talk (Girls and all normal one)
