    RIding Tips.

guys, when I did leh trip last year, it was me and my good friend on two 150s. (pulsar 150and cbz xtreme) and believe me, we had almost everything under the sun. I mean, you name it and we had it. Luckily or unluckily, we dint had to use almost 90% of the extra baggage that we were carrying but I believe in better safe than sorry policy.
anyways, I would not post a very comprehensive MUST HAVE list, rather, I would like to say that
    • Keep your bike as near to stock. any much of the modification may give way on rougher terrains.
    • carry anything that you think you might need in case of emergency. though these days the route to Leh although is not crowded but most of the times, help is just a few hands away.
    • need not carry too many clothes, as you would not like to Freeze your @$$ and bones (after or before a Hectic Ride) with a bone chilling freezing water for bathing. ( I remember I had a tough time washing my @$$ with the freezing water after Morning Call.) heheheheheheheheh
    • carry some warm essentials, a small but good medical kit, basic control cables, puncture repair kit, good riding Gear and above all...... keep your Head on your shoulder.( you might be an ace City rider cutting corners and zipping past a Ferrari, but in Hills on the way to Leh...keep your cool) dont be rude to anyone...and you will see people going out of their way to help you, should you ever need it. I remember giving away Petrol to one Gora for free when he was giving me money for it.
    • know your riding limits, but dont try to stretch yourself more than your @$$ can take a load of!!!

The ground Rule is...you are on a Ride of a lifetime, enjoy your ride...and dont be a p@!n in your or somebody Else's @$$!

    happy riding.

very true. Leh is just another place to go if your bike is in the best of her health. I remember it well that we did not use any of the tools apart from the basic for adjusting the drive chain.

I see no mention of diamox here - helps with altitude sickness. Also, have lots and lots of water

Yes the very important Diomax : i remember from the Bike India article on Leh done by Bunny last year - also even he rode a very stock bike that too with stock MRF tyres. I guess Leh is over hyped by a few people. Just make up your mind, make sure u have the essential and roll on : my 2 cents

Yeah remember to take it 24hours before climbing the altitude.
Though it isn't feasible but the water should be luke warm (as suggested by the army doctor in Pang).

It is very different than riding anywhere else in world and thats what makes it tougher to ride.
You can do an off-road trip anywhere in India but in himalayas with such an altitude, lack of oxygen; you and your bike gasping for air, almost no roads in some parts, it will be a different experience.

i was on that ride. We had three stock zma's, one avenger, one P220 and an LML Adreno.

all bikes performed flawlessly. However the adreno's clutch plates gave up when we were returning from Pangong.

One more important thing. Overinflate your tires by 3-4 psi above recommended. With a little careful driving, you can forget about punctures.

I am Glad that This topic has come up. I came to seriously know about this trip last October and since then craving to make it.Even made a couple of long trips here as a kind of preparation. I am thinking for a trip in mid June, The Enfield Odyssey is around that time so I think may be that would be a better time, offcourse my job permitting.
Any one from Hyderabad thinking about the ride. I am planning to ride on my Unicorn, I also have R15 but I am bit worried about its suitability to the trip.
Oh yes I plan to take my Bike to Delhi by Train or Transport by road <Guys advice>. Then My tentative plan is to.
                Delhi-Manali- Leh.
                Leh- Khardungla-Diskit-Nubra Valley-Leh
                Leh-Pagong-Leh
                Thinking of Leh-Kargil-Srinagar-Jammu(Jammu - Hyd/Warangal By Train)
Or to Delhi Via Manali and Back.

There are lot of places to visit but the I would like to have only two weeks off from the work plus two weekends on the either sides of the break.

Also please follow the following link for a good triplogue.

^^^ a P220 with a Sirac tyre for rear, running on Motul 300V FL & NGK Iridiums... and make sure if you are tall enough for that... a 5'8" guy finds it tough to reach the ground with the Sirac on.

Oh Yes Karizma's seem to be the favorites after bullets. I have seen images of ppl going on P220s,Comets,Pulsars and Unicorns. Also read abt a lot of RXs making trips there.

the most popular choice/choices need not be the best choices.

A Fuel Injected bike is a very good bet at those very high altitudes. Didn't you guys read through the HX-5 log either on xBhp or on Bike India?

ZMA is the best! Any time!!! If not then 200 is also amazing!

I have persoanly tried 220-Fi and R15 at high altitudes, not performing well..and FZ also looses it's strength!
ZMA with piilion was doing enuf to compete R15 at high altitudes,or if you are planning to go on any F-i Bike,Done'y forget to carry An Octane Booster along you!

And how high an altitude are we talking about, here, L.P? Certainly lesser than 10,000 odd feet, one would presume?

The P220, in my opinion (as also clearly been said by one member) is one of the better bikes that would take on Leh/ Ladakh with ease. I don't think there would be any real need of 'octane boosters'; come-on...
