Right - I totally forgot abt all that... I already had gear, took along a backpack only, rode stock tyres and travelled to/from delhi by train.Originally posted by shadez View PostFor immediate sale - PM me for a quote and/or more info - xbox 360 elite edition plus an assortment of game CD's.

Thanks for the info..i want to make this trip as a necessity and not luxury..so air travel almost ruled out unless i can get a company to sponsor me..lol lolOriginally posted by shadez View Posti came up with that figure while planning. but guess what, it shot up to 35k. why? for new tyres + some gears + tankbag, etc.
and if its a one side air travel then make it 40k!

LOL, I had a cost of <9k delhi-leh-delhi.
and riding jacket etc is all completely unnecessary nonsense. tyres/bags is what one needs to spend on.http://www.bikenomads.com/wiki/index.php/Leh - All you ever need to know about getting Leh'd.

I am sorry but I would differ on that.
Riding Jacket definitely is a boon if you can spend on it. Lets not forget that the climate and terrain at times can be utmost unfriendly. so a riding jacket that can prevent you from uncalled for rains and the chill of the snow along with providing protection in case of falls is a worthwhile investment, though I still would say....Buy a jacket if you can afford one, in case if it is going beyond your budget, get yourself a leather jacket...it may not be as good protection as a proper riding jacket is, but it still is better than wearing justa plain cotton t-shirt.Its not about the BHP or the CC, its about one common religion called Biking!!!

For Hyderabad guys, Don't forget Leh is also in my plans. Now have to do some pretrips for preparation. So where are the Ghat roads near to Hyderabad.
@V_310 and Hydbiker I think R15 is a risk for that terrain, I mean low Ground clearance and availability of mechanic who can work on it.
Yes even space on my bike and helmet is available for sponsors, But only Decals no paint work.

R15 has one of the best ground clearances and has a shorter wheel base... no issues in that department. Even a full tank of fuel gives you a worst case range of 350 KMs. The problem is with the rear tyre that finds no grip on rocks / gravel / slush and the low handlebars coupled with a stiff clutch that stresses you out over the number of days... and if you have to push the bike for what ever reason... you are in for a big time struggle.Originally posted by mike autherton View PostFor Hyderabad guys, Don't forget Leh is also in my plans. Now have to do some pretrips for preparation. don't expect any engine related problems but almost every thing else can be fixed with cycle tools. Of course, carry brake & clutch levers & clutch cable as spare.
We don't have a good ghat section near Hyderabad. But then, you are not going to speed on the Leh trip... you have to be cautious.Last edited by HydBiker; 04-28-2009, 10:14 AM.

If the bike gives 350kms on full tank here, then we will hardly get 225kms after Rohtang. so have some space for a 5L fuel can atleast.Originally posted by HydBiker View PostR15 has one of the best ground clearances and has a shorter wheel base... no issues in that department. Also carry the clutch friction plates, if they come cheap.Last edited by prabhubravo; 04-28-2009, 12:13 PM.

An R15 on a full tank should give over 450 KMs of range easily. Even on full throttle ripping throughout, the tank had about half a liter of fuel after 420-430 KMs. Yes, even in continuous climbing up the ghats.Originally posted by prabhubravo View PostIf the bike gives 350kms on full tank here, then we will hardly get 225kms after Rohtang. so have some space for a 5L fuel can atleast.

So, I believe the 350 KMs range estimate would not go down by a big margin as that'd mean a mileage of below 30 KMPL. Counting on the FI system for this. Even the High Volumetric Efficiency sports type air filter with its huge compartment (I think 3 liters) do help here.
Well, we still have to carry spare fuel. Cannot take chances up there! But a 5 liter can is gonna take a lot of space

Guys nobody talked abut the farings.so reposting below..Does the water freeze up in gaps thus resulting in cracked farings.Hence asking about the ideal season to get Lehied...
[One of my close friend alongwith his 7 buddies had completed leh in Aug 2008 on 7 bullets and a karizma. After the trip the karizma was enirely screwed up with broken farings et all & a total reparing estimate of 30,000.so would like your comment on this guys.
Is it recommended to remove R15 faring or is june/july time safe enough to complete with the complete bike.]sigpic

And how about putting the MRF Zappers like the ones on the GIR R15? Would be decent enough grip.
Not sure how many pieces the fairing of the R15 is made up of, but you coud consider removing the sides+bottom and make it a semi faired, so lesser costs incase of any damage/fall!_________________________
