  • @kevinmaveric: Everyone has his/her own metabolism, you yourself say you've suffered twice and last year you didnt

Paagal nullah is 4 kms before Pangong, and is should be crossed by 2 unless you plan on staying there. Having said that pangong is doable in a one day. The key is time your ride well, leave early. I did it in a day last year.

But cross changla by 5-5:30 lest you'll be stopped near the check post before chang-la

@groupbhp: No alternative route was being made, of all I saw.

I think you are referring to the Pagal nullah that comes around 15-20km before Pangong Tso. Last heard, an alternate road was being made in 2008. Lets hope its up this year

Sure they say - if you research a bit you will understand what Diomax does really , nothing but accelerates your heart a bit more giving the required blood and oxygen for your body .
Iam not sure if there were any roads last year infact we checked with a local police guy at darcha but he did not say anything like that but will try this time for sure if there are any roads or if you have anything on it , do let me know .

Go ahead pal nobody is stopping you from not taking the pill. It is just a suggestion that you can give time to your body to adapt naturally rather than hopelessly relying on the medications which is never a good idea.

And mind you they suggest to take luke warm water all the time and there is a reason behind it. The army doctor told us that the cold water makes the things worse.
Long back OldFox gave a nice explanation as to why luke warm water helps in fighting AMS. I'll try looking for it and post it as soon as I find it.

Found a link which tells about Diamox.
Diamox (acetazolamide) medical facts from Drugs.com
PS: Just read the side effects of the medicine too

What should I avoid while taking Diamox (acetazolamide)?

Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Acetazolamide may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Acetazolamide may increase the sensitivity of your skin to sunlight. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when exposure to the sun is unavoidable.

kevin, there is a very thin line between bravery and foolishness! I hope I am clear

And yes, the nullah before Pangong is called the paagal nullah!

            • Kevin the nalah you are refering to is KANGLA JAL.
Its the water crossing just before Pangong Tso which is known as Pagal Nalah.

Let me also give you guys a quick peak for this season which has barely started...
few of my friends flew to LEH for the last week of April.
They rode (some hired bikes from LEH) to Khardungle Top which obviously was all snowed, according to them there was some water and a lot of ice (probably black ice). Army men advised them not to cross K Top and go in any further to Nubra, unless they get them a Four Wheeler probably Scorpio.
They then drove (hired Scorpio) to Pangong Tso. Fortunately Pagal Nalla was all frozen and they just drove over it , there were no tents or accomodation what so ever on Pangong Tso, locals told them barely a week ago the whole Pangong Tso Lake was frozen.
Have asked the guys to send me some pics, might even post them here.

So guys just hold your breath for a little while till the Gates to heaven open for us.... Inshallah.
              Cheers !!!

              • well, I have been thinking of doing Leh again but now that I see that a LOT and Lot of Groups are landing there...I think I would look out for some other Trip. Not That I have anything against anyone, its just that I think it would be a bit difficult for someone like me to overtake a FLEET of 100 bicycles or 150 Motorcycles.... So, despite the wonderful ride and terrain, I think I will opt out. Cheers.
Its not about the BHP or the CC, its about one common religion called Biking!!!

                • ^^^ The RE Himalayan Odessey is from June 12 (Friday) to June 27 (Saturday) and their route plan is very modest and simple.

The YHAI guys are going during last week of August & First week of September - for motorcycles & the cycles are going between 19 Aug & 04 Sep.

Those are the crowds. You have a lot lot of dates before, after & in between.

BTW, any idea by when the initial heavy military truck traffic would subside?

Anyone planning to start on 7th June, Sunday from Delhi?

                  • Himalayan odessey is from june 12th??? it usually starts to rain by the 2nd week of June, so what fun are they going to have in rain soaked suits. still a good piece of Information, thanks.
two days back I spoke to one tent wala at Darcha who told me that the route is closed due to heavy snowfall, Rohtangpass to Keylong is still closed, its only Keylong to Darcha that the local traffic is moving.
am expecting that the routes would take another 20 odd days to open up.

                    • We still have about 40 days for 2nd week of June!

But then, rains during that time??? that will be a spoil sport.

He'll take you as pillion. As such you are feather weight so no probs for the MT01. But then, you will ave to carry all his luggage on your back. Deal?

The bike's weight & travel range on a full tank can make it a difficult task.

You may have to ride in ultra economy mode and carry enough fuel - ideally take part in a commercially organized trip where these hassles are outsourced.

PS: K2 is in pakistan. Khardungla i believe is what you meant
