From less than 10k ft to 16k feet in one day (Manali to Sarchu). You are asking for trouble pal. As said earlier and suggested to us in the forum when we were planning for the trip, don't underestimate AMS. Even if you are taking the medicine to fight AMS but still give your body some time to acclimatize to the higher altitudes.
Also you would require half a day for permits in Leh. So plan for that too.
Permits can be arranged thru a travel agent via phone and can be picked up at Leh.

Sarchu is around 13,500 feet - i don't think it's near to 16,000 ft... with proper hydration and diamox, AMS can be taken care of.
For immediate sale - PM me for a quote and/or more info - xbox 360 elite edition plus an assortment of game CD's.

It is close to 14000. But you will be crossing Baralachala which is 16000k+

Of course hydration and diamox will be helpful but give your body to naturally acclimatize.
Again as Hitanshu says "Respect AMS, do not underestimate it."

^^ totally agree...! alternate night halt for the second day would be jispa which is at a lower altitude, but the third day's ride would be pretty hard.

personal opinion - on the ride last year, we heard the same advice - nevertheless, we stayed overnight at sarchu. It was ok

^^ very conservatively, approx 20 - 25k incl train tickets, transporting your bike to and fro and of course, for the ride itself.

As is said earlier R15 can manage too so thats a relief. If so than how important is the season as a factor in completing LEH successfully.

I have heard many a stories from people who have tried many times with all kinda of bikes but failed.

One of my close friend alongwith his 7 buddies had completed leh in Aug 2008 on 7 bullets and a karizma. After the trip the karizma was enirely screwed up with broken farings et all & a total reparing estimate of 30,000.so would like your comment on this guys.

Is it recommended to remove R15 faring or is june/july time safe enough to complete with the complete bike.

I wish only to take my bike. Also has anyone completed LEH on an R15.if so than experience shared would be helpful.
The R15 can actually take it but here are the problems you should be ready for:

              1) have to keep revving higher or change gears a lot of times
              2) low handlebars add to your worries... if you have to take on tough terrain for over 10 days
              3) the rear tyre cannot get grip on rocks - you have many such places on the way.. may be you should get a different tyre...

When we were there we kept ourselves hydrated but we were a little late in taking the medicine (diamox). We climbed up (manali to keylong to Pang) in one and half days and as soon as we came down from Baralachala and entered Sarchu, we got hit by AMS and it became worse in Pang.
So no harm in being little cautious thats all I wanted to say

i came up with that figure while planning. but guess what, it shot up to 35k. why? for new tyres + some gears + tankbag, etc.
and if its a one side air travel then make it 40k!
