Interesting then. Will wait for the review (in fact, KP will be awaiting more than me).

The list is increasing day by day. But yours is special owing to R15. I'm glad that you did it..... I've ridden R15 only once in my life & was mighty impressed with it.
Now it has done Leh.... I hold high regards for it.

Before we go berserk you better bring more pics & log.

Till mid September you are fine.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Thanks guys, sorry for the delay. Here is the trip log and some more pics.

                Day 1: 07-06-2009

04:30 hours, I believe it was the best time to start the trip. Well, the Scorpio finally reached our place at 05:30 hours. Yes, for 5 of us we had a Scorpio and a R15 to complete this trip. We hit the highway and I enjoyed the morning breeze.

The begining of the trip with the side stand on

A pit stop on the commando mission

The wonderful roads, it was a delight to ride the '15 on it

One of the curves that the R15 was eating seamlessly

                On the way to Manali

A piece of fresh breath near Pandoh Dam

Finally the rafters or more precisily spectator raftors

Changed, and packed again to reach Manali at 20:00 hours. Checked into the hotel and went for shopping to buy the necessary things for the trip till Leh. With a plan to start early next morning after hearing about the traffic jams at Rohtang Pass, we called it a day.

                More comming up soon.

                - Amit

anyways, good to see you back and congrats for being to the place where u always wanted to. also, u r perhaps the 1st R15er who got it to Leh, so unofficially be it, but you are the Hero for the Season.
                  Bring in the triplougue soon.
Thanks bro. I always appreciate your inputs and they were of great help for the trip. Will give you a call.

I remember talking about this with you&I'm glad the ground clearance wasn't an issue.
How about the rear tyre? Did you get it changed or pulled on with the stock tyres?
Thanks dear, yes I changed the rear tyre to Ceat Vertigo 100/90 tubeless as discussed with you too. Maybe we shall have a chat again soon.

Congrats dude , what tyres ? thats what i wanna know , rest no doubtin r15
Thanks dear, I went to the Yamaha Pro before doing this trip, there was a guy who told me that they had taken the R15 to Rohtang alongwith a MT.
As correctly said by Rohit I changed the tyre to Ceat Vertigo 100/90 tubeless, and it performed realy well both on and off the road.

No issues at al. As said earlier the front fairing nuts got a bit loosened, I was able to tighten then with ease. Other than that I was fortunate enough that I didnt had even a single puncture.
I was confident for the R15 more than the Thunderbird and I believe it showed up. Moreover, atleast to the extent that this machine will atleast start in any condition and the rest I will take care of.

Awesome Bikerboy -- the entire mumbai xbhpians specially on R15 are planning to go to spiti & Rohtang, we were having so many thoughts about the kind of issues R15 has to face.

                          i do have few queries

                          1) How did the suspension setup handle during ur terrain ---did ur back had to take to much pain.

                          2) Any issues with R15 tyres specially grip over gravel and ice

                          3) and what abt luggage --can it take up all the saddle bags , tank bags and still not loose it's pose.

Here are the answers to the best of my knowledge:

                            1. The rear feels a bit stiff, the difficult terrain will be for some kms only till Rohtang I believe there should not be any problems.

                            2. I am happy that i changed the rear to Ceat. It did quite well. I recommend changing the stock ones. For the front I was running with the stock tyres, no issues in that.

                            3. I didm't put much of my luggage on the bike only a bag sometimes with the bungee cords. All my luggage was in the scorpio. But I believe there should not be any issues for luggage if you are going till Rohtang as all your bags will be lieing in the hotel.

                              Day 2: 08-06-2009

Neither as per plan nor as per schedule we started around 06:30 hours.

                              At Rohtang pass

Three of us reach Rohtang - Xbhp, R15 and my good self

                              The rocky roads

Ice, water and rocks they really rock

                              The free parking at Rohtang

It was all snow around and I was loving it

A spring while decending from Rohtang

                              Another spring

                              The curve with road

                              The other angle

                              A typical bridge near Khoksar

One of the curves for Keylong

Last petrol pump at Tandi before Leh

In steed in front of the guest house

By evening we reached Keylong and checked in yarkid guest house, meaning a nice picnic spot. At 200 bucks per room I believe it was cheap. The food was even better than what we had at Khoksar.
