Anshul is just great with camera. Just imagin the effort of a film SLR and different lenses, each time setting it all up and then packing back and not to forget all the pain to get them developed, scanned and then post... pheww (I almost got tired typing it all ;D )
But all is worth, just look at the gorgeous pics...

              Day1... Delhi - Matiana... 430kms... 9hrs

              Day1

              Sunday the 27Sep of 2009

              9hrs ride covering 430kms approx

On the eve of our ride, I packed my stuff in a pair of saddle bags (which I borrowed from our very own Generous DCS) and went to sweet Grandmom preparing food for prayers. Later I got to know that everybody in the house except Ankur and I woke up early so that they could finish the prayers on time, for us to leave.
I stepped out for a short walk to withdraw cash from ATM, and the first thing I noticed was a kid wearing a T Shirt, saying quite loudly ~ RiderJ now that is some coincidence but still I thought some girl practicing on a lousy Sunday morning, even before I could draw my attention away from this girl rider, I saw another one joining her on her own bike, Now that is something that I saw for the first time.
After hogging on some delicious Pooris, chana & halwa (GOD that is one combination I am so in love with) prepared by Grandmom, I called rest of the three members, to my surprise nobody answeredL. Well Kartik was on his way to place and Arjun & Anshul were still sleeping. It was only after few more tries I got through Arjun. Later Anshul called and told that he would meet us near Karnal Bypaas. Nonetheless we (Ankur, Arjun, Kartik & I) took blessings from Ankur's family and were finally able to leave at 10:15 am.

              Ready for the ride

After tanking up at IIT Hauz Khaas Petrol pump, we started towards Karnal bypaas. With saddle bags on my bike, I was feeling way more comfortable than carrying a tankbag, maneuvering in traffic was also at ease, thanks to DCS. Met Anshul

It was for the first time that I was on a ride that started late during the day, I usually prefer to leave Delhi by 4am, so to cover up as much possible but with ease we continued at a comfortable pace in plains maintaining a good speed with very small butt breaks to cover. We made it to Kalka at 3:30pm, tanked up coz petrol is cheaper than in Himachal and continued.
              For Kartik
              Twisties on Hills
And then I saw Kartik struggling to overtake a car on a blind turn when a truck suddenly appeared in front of him coming from the opposite direction, it struck me that I said just follow the one in front of you and being the great listener he is he just did, he just followed me on the turn and where in I had space to see and overtake the car, by the time he reached the spot it was a blind turn for him. God that was one discomforting scene in my rear view, immediately I stopped Kartik and told him that hills are different, while you are tailing someone you must not overtake unless you are sure. Nobody but you should be deciding on whether to lean more, overtake a vehicle, accelerate, brake, etc. Also that the loaded vehicle or the one on an ascending road gets the preference. Post this discussion Kartik

As we approached Shimla it was getting dark, and though Arjun (The HID-Man or The Night Rider) insisted to ride further, we dim-light poor fellows decided to break for night at the HP PWD Rest House at Matiana

We checked into the Rest House for Rs.250/room, and went out for dinner. Now like many of you know that post dinner I get that craving for sweets and so does Ankur & Arjun

@B2L: Wonderful stuff. There are a few things in your write-up which a few riders in this forum need to take note of.

As for "Born2Lead Institute", I am sure you will, eventually open an institute which would guide guys with ultra-poor navigational skills like me to atleast try and find a way back home through the urban jungle!

Overall, a lovely end to the first day's journey. Now, waiting for the next part, and ofcourse I just can't wait for the Spiti pictures to start flowing.

P.S: 9 hours and almost 450kms. covered! No wonder you are "born2Lead".

A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

Always be ready (get geared) to fall and then think of sitting on the motorcycle.
