Lovely pictures Anshul, Nako village looks awsome both in colors and otherwise. Rest are great too, pls keep them coming.
I'd rather be riding my motorcycle thinking about God than sitting in church thinking about my motorcycle.
Ride often, ride well, have fun.

            Day3... Nako-Kaza covering 115kms in approx 8hrs

            DAY 3

Tuesday the 29th of September 2009
            NakoKaza
7 to 8 hour ride to cover 115 KMs

Tibet, surrounded by awesome scenery, we had had an amazing sleep amidst the most peaceful and serenest of places and it was What better way for the day to begin.
I am not an early morning person but being with the guy who seldom sleeps, helps ( I say this coz, he was always awake when I slept and he woke me up everytime). This man wears Army print cargos and believe me, when he is in them, he behaves like an army man. So thanks to our very own B2L, me and Ankur

Me and B2L decided to walk up to the amazingly beautiful Nako Lake. We wanted to be in midst of the nature early in the morning, we felt that the nature was asking us to venture out and in the meanwhile the birthday boy decided to stay back at the guest house and answer a slightly different call of the nature.
It takes about 10 minutes to get to the Lake from the Village Centre. There is a cemented path leading to the point from where one has to walk down a slope to the lake. Walking down is fine, but walking up takes its toll. I was left panting by the time I reached the top. Its hardly 50 meters of a climb, but Nako being at 3000 M above MSL, lack of oxygen doesnt help much.

This is why I had mentioned before that I was destined to write the log of this day.

            Anshul.

We looked around the village for an STD booth but it turned out that phones were not working. Poor Ankur was not able to talk to his parents on his birthday. Checking the bike was next on the agenda. ArjunImran and AnkurB2LAnshul had brought Crocs along, to change into in case he encountered a water body. Without much difficulty, in fact with no difficulty we all crossed the nala. This trip had a lot of Firsts for me. This was the first nala on my first ride. I had seen(pictures..of course.. this was my first ride.. remember??) and heard about the famous (rather infamous) Pagal Nala, so when I heard about Malling Nala, to be frank, I was a bit apprehensive. I had pictured the nala to be a violent stream, but it turned out to be more like a puddle.

Riding on barren terrain for most part of the day, any sight of greenery or vegetation was pleasant on the eyes. Spotting the approaching apple orchards was mouth-watering. The simple thought of having apples in THE land of apples was too tempting. Refraining from plucking the apples was a difficult thing to do. So being the decent guys that we are, we tried asking the owner of the orchard, after inquiring his whereabouts from a local. Imran and Anshul went to bring some apples. They returned empty handed in a few minutes and Imran said, "Seb lene gaye they.. Kela ho gaya".

Disappointed, we reached Sumdo in a while. One has to register here at the police check-post to enter the Spiti valley. I entered the check-post, and the police man asked me for my name, my bike registration number and my driving license. When I handed him my license he looked at my photo carefully and then lifted his head to see me. He stared at me and the handed me the license back. I wonder what he was thinking because I had my helmet on all this while .

We reached Tabo at 2:45 PM. We parked our bikes next to a small dhaba. Suddenly the bikes caught the fancy of a few local kids and they all came to check out the bikes. We happily asked them to climb on. new P220

As we were running short of time and we were well aware of the impromptu photo sessions on the way to Kaza, so we decided against visiting Tabo Monastery and started for Kaza. The road wasn't great but the scenic beauty around made us think least about the bad roads. We had river Spiti for company for major part of the ride. I think no ride could be complete without off-roading a bit and spending some time at the river bank. Everytime we were riding close to a river, we had an urge to off-road till the river, So finally we gave in. It was one hell of a stretch till the river. There were huge rocks and boulders at the river bank. Ankur lied down on the ground while me and Arjun climbed on to boulders and dozed off for a bit. It was hard to fight the sleep because of the soothing sound of Spiti river, the fresh air and the bluest of the blue sky. It had crossed 4:30 PM and it was time to move on.

From here on the ride was smooth. No glitches, just a few photo stops. We crossed a few villages and settlements enroute to Kaza. There were information boards at these villages telling about the name of the village, Population and height above Mean Sea Level. We crossed a small village called Lari which had a population of 39 "Prani". We were wondering if "Prani" consists of all creatures in the village and not just People. Then came a village called Chandigarh, yes it was spelt exactly the same way!!!

We made it to Kaza at 7 PM. It was already dark and was pretty cold. Circuit House stands at the entrance of Kaza welcoming everyone. Sadly but strangely there were no rooms available there, even when there was not a single car parked outside. So we headed to Kaza Market area to find a guest house. First thing we did was to call up home. Poor Ankur, on his birthday, could talk to his parents only at 7 PM. We then headed to the guest house which had just enough parking space for 5 bikes to fit, but it was a little below the road level. After parking bikes, we all freshened up and headed for dinner. Anshul had been raving about a restaurant where amazing mutton was served. We went there, while Imran and Arjun enjoyed the mutton, me, Ankur and Anshul being vegetarians relished the awesome Rajma Chawal.

Sumo guy was driving with clouds of dust around him, and riding with the open Visor was impossible. I was riding in the front so I just took a chance and sped past the Sumo even when there was low visibility and rest of the guys followed. It was such a relief to be breathing fresh air again.
