Earlier in the thread, I saw @Mik mention that the permits which are checked at Marhi are made at Gulaba. So, is that permit requred for everyone who intends to cross Rohtang pass and ride ahead? or is it for any specific places? were you people asked for the permit at marhi?
naveen1322 if you are going from the manali leh side then yes, you do need to get permits made at Gulaba otherwise the checkpost at Marhi will not let you through (Atleast that was the situation till 14th - check bcmtouring leh-manali road status thread if there has been any change). But, if you are coming from the Leh side, then no such issues.

Marsimik la or basically any region which has LOC crossing through it
For rest of th places you will have to fill a form which is readily available at any xerox or STd booths on leH . You have to fill in your information and bike details into it
This form needs to be given in check posts if asked . We were asked for this form at Baralacha

Re: Getting Leh'ed - 2014 Planner

Finally my plans for Leh are confirmed. Well I would still say almost confirmed. Not that I am a skeptic but there has been so much negativity and pushback for this trip from my family, it has killed my excitement to certain (small but definitive) extent. But never the less, it is a dream which in all probability will come true this time. I am leaving Saturday early morning and will be going via Manali and wil be coming back via Srinagar. We have booked train tickets from Udhampur to Delhi and we are planning to get our bikes loaded on to train. Had few quick questions regarding that.

1. I believe Udhampur station also offers luggage/parcel facility. Can someone kindly confirm this.
2. Does anyone have experience at Udhampur of loading bikes. how good or bad is that
3. If my bike is not in my name, can I still book it.
4. Can I do this on sunday?
5. If by any chance we can not get it loaded on train. Is there any contingency plan that we can follow.

Anuj

Feels Great to be back home but i still somehow miss Ladakh

All roads are open in ladakh and zanskar region

Kunzum Pass from Keylong for Spiti is still closed and wont be open for another month as per locals..

Manali Leh highway is indeed in bad condition but its a must take route inspite of bad road conditions..

Permits which are checked at Marhi are made at Gulaba 24X7. Do remember to stop at the post in gulaba and get them made.
Regarding road conditions -- as jeevan.life said, do a bit of clickwork

Please read a few comments back for the road conditions.

Not sure about the permits. Ride safe, have fun..

Hi,

One of my friends and I planning to get Leh'd and we are starting next week. Although I have gone through this forum multiple times but I have rarely posted here. One of the reasons being that I lost my password and was too lazy to create a new account. Now since my Leh trip is finally materializing, I thought it would be nice to connect to other XBHP members who are planning this trip starting next weekend from Delhi. We plan to start Saturday early morning (5th July). Among 100 questions which I have, few things which I was thinking and wanted an answer were:

1. We will reach Manali by late night on Saturday and plan to rest and get out permits on Sunday. Are the permits to travel beyond Leh issued on Sunday. Are there any specific timings.
2. How bad or good it will be this time around in terms of rain and slush.

September is mostly dry, but it may rain sometimes.

Hope so. Let me also know the updates. I'll also do some research, as some of the members are also riding.. Will ask them.
