From 1st May onwards, one doesnt need to hassle up at Leh Office to get permits to places like Nubra Valley/Turtuk/Panamik, pangong tso lake, tso moriri and batalik sector.
DL, passport, adhar card, Pan Card, etc. can suffice the need to prove that you are indian citizen and free to go ahead.

In Ladakh, no need to apply for permits at DC's Office, Leh from May 1 onwards. ID cards such as DL/ PAN/ Aaadhar, etc should be carried as proof of Indian identity & will act as Inner Line Permits (ILPs). All popular places covered, but not places like Chushul, Tsaga, Demchok, Hanle & M la - for that, you have to still go to DC's Office in Leh. One more god news is that for those coming from Manali side, they can now go to Tso Moriri too direct.
Places which are covered by above mentioned process are Nubra Valley/Turtuk/Panamik, Pangong Lake, Tso Moriri & also Batalkik sector. Names which are missing are Marisimik la/ Chushul/ Tsaga/ Hanle/ Demchok/ Fukche

No personal experience on the Mughal road, never been through that route
But I will try to ask around and hopefully get some useful time estimates for you..

Re: Getting Leh'ed - 2014 Planner
Hello Friends
I am planning Ladakh ride from Delhi starting Saturday 14th June till Sat 28th June 2014.
Going via Srinagar route and returning via Manali.
I am looking for partners for this ride.
Below is rough plan:
I ride a Thunderbird 350.
Anyone interested to join in or anyone interested to allow me in the group with similar plan, please do reply.
Regards

I dont think doing the aim is to touch-n-go ride for people here. If it is, to each his own.
PERIOD

One doesnt need to maintain speed of 50-60 kmph on Manali-Chandertal section.Originally posted by prateek2210 View PostConditions of the road, rohtang's jam, taken all this into account. One cant ride continuously at 50-60 on those roads.
Chandertal is 140 kms from Manli,if one starts early from manali (5-6-7 am),he can reach Chandertal very very easily with numerous breaks.
Even a round trip to Chandertal is possible in a single day,if rider is ready to push little hard and ride ride 14 hrs.

Yes.....Originally posted by jeevan.life View PostHi guys
Can Manali Chandratal Manali be done in 1 day at end of July? Can we take the bike to Chandratal or do I have to park and trek to the lake?

Manali-Chandertaal can be done in a single day.Doable.
You can take your bikes very near to the lake.
No problem.
Even though, road is narrow but for bikes,it is easy.
Jamica would be there at the banks of Chandertal lake with all camping facility to welcome you.
If you have any query regarding Spiti/Rohtang/Chndertaal.shoot it here.
