Re: Getting Leh'ed - 2014 Planner
As long it materializes. Getting a TL is becoming a serious headache.
On a different note:
I have a brand new Spartan Helios (will use it for the first time in the ride). People are advising me against wearing a mesh jacket to leh for obvious reasons. Seems like even if I do multiple layers beneath the jacket and a raincoat on top of that, won't be enough to fight the cold(?) What I am looking is if someone (from Delhi) not riding to Leh woul want to exchange my Helios with a Textile(? or leather) jacket for the duration of the trip? I would return the same when I come back to Delhi. Or is there anyone from whom I can rent a jacket. I don't want to spend a bomb on a jacket I won't be using much. A mesh generally suffices in a tropical nation such as ours.
Thanks

Cool sounds goodOriginally posted by BloggingWheels View Post^^ I know. I am planning for a TL tyre and would carry a tube as a spare in case of unforseen events such as a bent rim.

Re: Getting Leh'ed - 2014 Planner
Hey hiOriginally posted by BloggingWheels View PostGuys, a little help needed from the experienced ones here -
It is regarding tyres - how much is it of a risk to ride in tubed tyres to Leh? I have been searching and searching for TL ones in the profile 100/90-18" for CEAT Zoom/Vertigo but I am yet to get it. Tubed ones are available here in the same profile. As plan B, if I do not get TL at all, will have to go for tubed ones. How good is it an idea to do the route on tubed ones?
Oh and btw I shall be riding from home (Jamshedpur) to Leh and Back so no train/packing/transporting stuff there. I have plain roads also to care about.
Thanks
Trust me I won't suggest going for a tubed tyre
Just an unlikely chance of a puncture what will u do where u won't have anyone around for help
It's actually a huge risk

Re: Getting Leh'ed - 2014 Planner
Thanks for pointing me to the thread Prateek.
Folks, I've started planning for riding to Leh this year.
It basically started with hearing one of my office colleagues plan his trip to Leh-Ladakh with his friends coming June. They're planning to start their ride from Manali, on hired bullets. Probably a 10 day 'trip'. I was pretty excited at first, and started thinking of joining them. But then when I 'started thinking to start the planning', I thought why shouldn't%2www.xbhp.comwn bike (a P220) from Delhi? Compared to the total distance, Delhi to Manali shouldn't be much, I thought. Prateek too suggested my own bike, since the hired bullets can't be trusted (and that was in my mind too).
And now, while planning for that (riding my own bike from Delhi all the way), I think June is just nearby and I don't have much time left to plan (I also need riding gear, bags, and other stuff, right?).
So now that I know that Prateek and others have plans for September, and that June might be crowdy, I think I'll better go for September. I'll get plenty of time to plan properly. And I'll get my riding habits back on track :P (it's been long since I did a good ride; whatever riding was left for commuting to the office, I left that last year in favor of the bus).
Will follow this thread from now on for all the tips and suggestions. Cheers!

Re: Getting Leh'ed - 2014 Planner
Wow guys...surely will look ahead to meet you! On the motorcycle preparation front, I desperately need to change my rear Zapper Y to CEAT vertigo or Zoom tubeless in the profile 100/90-18". Not getting here anywhere in Jharkhand. Any leads on where I may source it from. Moderators, I know this might be a little OT but considering this thread has been scavenged by prospective Leh conquerors it can be safely assumed that preparation can be discussed here(?) Guys any inputs on the tyre part?

Re: Getting Leh'ed - 2014 Planner
Looks fine to me, assuming you are doing pangong tso-karu-pang (I would suggest sarchu - its at a lower altitude)Originally posted by INDGEM3 View PostWe are 2 ppl from TN getting LEH'D for the first time, doing a tour from delhi from june 8th to june 20th... and our routes are as follows..
DELHI, AMRISTAR, SRINAGAR, KARGIL, LEH, KHARDUNGLA- HUNDAR, LEH, PANGONG TSO, PANG, MANALI, SHIMLA, DELHI
I got 2 question.. will the weather be doable at that time..?
second, do we need any permit? as i keep reading the new rules, we might not need.. jus a confirmation needed.
we are travelling in rented bike from delhi..
Pang to Manali will be dependent a lot on the weather and the slush at rohtang. As mentioned, target Sarchu the previous day.
But you do have the buffer day for Shimla. After what you will have experienced in kashmir and ladakh, shimla will be positively boring. So in case you lose a day somewhere, you can drop shimla.
Here are the new permit rules. Looks like you might not need any permits.

Saw to riders on bullets Delhi number with luggage. Might have been going to Leh. But their get-up was a nightmare. There were only in their vests, shorts and don't forget the slippers.

Re: Chronicles Of A Lone Biker: The Northern Chapter
Mik,recent relaxations in permits rules are applied only for popular palces like Pangong till Merak(i guess),Tso Moriri,Nubra,Turtuk,Tayakashi etc.Originally posted by Mik View PostWith the new permit rules - does the permit for all of these places still stand ?
One still needs permit for Chushul,Tsaga,Marsimik La,Chumur, and other border areas.
Hope this helps you.Originally posted by bobrox View PostIll b visiting leh late in the july
will b going Srinagar via flight and Srinagar to leh in car
need bikes for leh-leh

need 2 thunderbird 350
1 avenger 220
3 classic/Electra
From Diskit to Pangong, there are 3 optionsOriginally posted by zawarester1 View Post
1. Agham-Shyok.This may be difficult in june but you can try.
2.Agham-Tangyar-Wari La.Wari La may not open that early.
3.Diskit-K top-Leh-Chang La-Tangaste-Pangong.This is your best bet.
But do try Agham-Shyok route, your stars may favor you and you find route clean.
But have heard some rumors that permits for chushul are not being provided. in this case any plan B that could be considered as a route . )
In such case, you will have to bac track till Karu(tank up) and continue towards Upshai-Chumathang-Sumdo-Tso moriri.
Sarchu - Kaza - We were suppose to take gamphu route from Kuzum LA , but again if the pass is not open by 19th June , what other options available for the same.
Rest of the plans are all set and waiting for dates to arrive fast ....
I will get back to you on this query with precise info.
