TVS Apache- tools to be taken for ladakh ride

Dear friends, I am new to xbhp, but have a experience of more then 4 years in riding. Next year i am planning to get leh'd on my Apache RTR 180 ABS. Need your help in getting to know what needs to be taken in tool kit for this tough but thrilling ride to mountains.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
          The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Basic wrench tool kit, plus some spanner & spark plug. Also carry spare brake, Throttle & Clutch cables... Most importantly, service your vehicle & change Clutch plate, Oil sealant, brake pad & Chain Sprocket if needed. Dont service your vehicle unnecessarily during LEH ride. If you are confident about your vehicle than go ahead nothing gonna stop you. And most importantly don't play with ABS setting few days before or during ride.

PS. I just went with WD40 & Duct tape :P

              Re: Leh Ladakh 2015 Planner

Thanks a lot for reply. Well i keep my Apache fit and fine by regularly servicing it. So maybe i wont require much spares. Still i will get my bike checked for any problems before i start the ride. Thanks again for the guidance.

I intend to complete my 2012 journey next year. There were places I could not visit for xyz reason although I had a permit in hand. I have no riding partner as of today and I do not know if my wife (Poli) can join this time. But just like last time I'm hoping the interest and enthusiasm picks up as July 2015 nears.
Here is the Plan, just so I may be of any assistance to fellow riders during the timeframe.

Apart from whatever gear I own, I have added these 3. Last time I carried all sorts of warm wear which added to the weight. I also never really needed them all. A Proper riding gear should take care of the rest. For the Cold weather I have the DSG aqua which worked excellent during the high altitude ride. Below are the new additions. Please read my Leh 2012 blog (link available in signature) to know what gears I already possess.

                • Replaced my Studds Downtown with KYT RC7. Both come under Street helmet category. A full blown Tourer helmet is off my budjet. However the Studds did a wonderful job last time.

                • The DSG Motomesh I had was abused till the last thread. It also did not protect my upper wrist from sun burn. The DSG Phoenix as shown below is supposed to do just that. And with its better quality, hoping it will last longer.

                • Finally a proper riding jacket. The DSG Nero was the only one available in my size and luckily it fitted my budget. It has fair protection and this will replace the wardrobe I carried last time.

Well, I hope to make it this time as planned else I'll punch myself.

Sach is considered to be harder than most passes in leh. The hardest areas in leh are Rohtang pass (considering what time you are planning to go) and Chang la for the sheer incline and snow (again depends when you are going). The real challenging places in leh are the route to hanle via chusul (no roads till merak) and the remote areas on the hanle to tso moriri circuit. But hardly any bikers venture out on these routes. So I guess you are more than ready for leh
When life gives you Yamaha, make it RD350 not R15. :D

Good to see this thread is up - 6 months is a decent amount of time to prep for the ride.

I am including the link to the last page of my travelogue here. It may be of some help:

Given below are links to documents I have backed up to Google Drive about my schedule, maps etc. The Excel sheet contains a worksheet on spares etc. Do take a look.

Hi I have only heard so much about Leh and seen pictures. I am actually dying to take a biketrip there. I own and Aquila Pro GV650 and i am 5'5" in height. Would it be wise for me to take that bike? GC for that is just 160mm and wheelbase is very long as compared to other bikes. If it is not suitable which bike would be best? How about Duke390?

                            Regards,

                            Prashant

For those going first time, read this blog by Vishwas. According to me, this is the best blog I've read, the things I have learned from his experience is amazing.

To answer your question, you can take any motorcycle to Leh, as long as you know how to general service it, take care of basic troubleshooting, at-least diagnose the issue if not fix it. Keep it in tip top condition. If its the Aquila, I suggest you Let Hyosung know about your plan so they may certify the vehicle for you. Good publicity for them as well. I remember TVS doing it for some folks for their TVS 50. And it worked.

                                Ride Planning to Leh 2015

                                Hi guys
This is Surendran from Tirupur, i am planning to ride to Leh in the upcoming summer, as of now myself and my friend Suresh have confirmed to ride, but i have zero plan in my mind

The only idea i have is we will be riding in the month of june or july but can be altered as per your suggestions ,

Uproute we have an idea of riding from Tirupur to K top and down till delhi and back go home via train

I need advice from you guys on route planning a good time to ride on the mighty himalayas and scenic route till the start of himalayas

The things to be carried, the preparations to be done for the bikes and ourselves.. Etc..

I know it's very earlier to start the planning but it is important for gathering almost all details
