Hanle-Sarchu looks ambitious
* Why don't you do Spangmik-Hanle via Chulshul (if you get the permit)
* Hanle-Korzok
* Korzok-Sarchu
This way you don't need to return to Leh.

Also try Hunder-Spangmik via Wari la. It will likely to be open if you go in or after July.

Hello, I am from Kolkata and plan to ride to Leh in August, 2015.

I am planning to start from Kolkata and back but am being advised against it as it is too taxing for both man and machine..

Also, if anyone is riding out in the first week of August, we could perhaps ride together..

Any inputs please??

Save your dates for actual Leh ride rather than wasting 4-5 days riding from Kolkata to Dehi or Chandigarh. The best place to start your ride for Leh are Chandigarh or Jammu

Thanks dichkaun, I've not taken the WariLa or Spangmik-Chulshul options as I want to to trace the entire manali leh highway at least once. The Hunder-Spangmik Section would cut Upshi etc and the Chulshul would cut tanglang la right?

Any other ideas on how I could still visit these places and cover the manali leh highway entirely??

Yes that will be an issue. You can choose to go via the Manali route till Leh. That'll let you cover the stretch

As advised, I did a bit of research about starting from Chandigarh or Jammu, however it will not be convenient owing to the train timings and availability.
A few other questions:
If I am to start riding from New Delhi and continue on to Jammu - Srinagar - Kargil - Leh - Around Leh - Nubra Valley - Leh - Sarchu - Manali - Delhi, the entire trip will be completed in 12-13 days, estimated. Is is fine to go without bookings??

I am hearing about some permits, Do Motorcycles require permits for the above mentioned route??

Lastly, for a budget trip, for the Delhi-Leh-Delhi part, how much money will I need??
The ride is a Bullet Standard 500 (UCE)

Starting from delhi will work. Here's a schedule you can follow
Day 1: Delhi - Jammu
Day 2: Jammu - Srinagar
Day 3: Srinagar - Kargil
Day 4: Kargil - Leh
Day 5 - Leh
Day 6 - Leh - Nubra Valley
Day 7 - Nubra Valley - Spangmik (Pangong Lake)
Day 8 - Spangmik (Pangong Lake) - Leh
Day 9 - Leh - Korzok (Tso Mori)
Day 10 - Korzok - Sarchu
Day 11 - Sarchu - Manali
Day 12 - Manali - Delhi

Cost will depend on how luxuriously you travel. Also if you are alone, cost goes higher as you cannot share accommodation.
