Alright so here I go again! Folks from delhi can try conquering the mighty Chanshal pass which is approximately 60 kms from Rohru and connects the Pabber Valley to the most remote location of himachal, "Doda Kwar". This road was paved till 'Chirgaon' which is 30 from Rohru, and was all rocks and pebbles till Chanshal, the last time I went there. But it has been officially opened to public by the CM this month. Worth a go!

The route that I am mentioning is unconventional, as I try to remain off the NH as much as possible. So lots of offroading and beautiful vistas to feast upon!

    Day 1: Delhi - Solan - Rajpur - Chaila - Kharapatthar - Rohru
Day 2: Rohru - Chirgaon - larote - Chanshal - Doda Kwar and back (As there are no options of staying there)
Day 3: Rohru - Baggi - Narkanda. From here, dont go towards Shimla, turn around and ride 30 kms towards Rampur till you reach Sainj. From Sainj take the
Dhami - Shalaghat - Arki route and you will reach Dharampur!!

    Ride Nature: Moderate

Should be easily doable, as now there must be paved roads most of the way till Chanshal.

Tip: Dont take pillion, the experience wont be pleasent.

Try it, you wont be dissapointed take my word for it

As for me, well i am going there again next month

    Adios..

@Sticky: I am not sure of Leh, but i will most definately be doing spiti next month.

And you would have to run back to leh for petrol, because the bunk in karu serves only diesel!

    Hello...

Heya Mr. Cobain. Well I m so sorry didn't contacted u. got very dam busy with some project here. Good to see tht u r pretty regular out here. Talking about some distances well, According to me Even
    1. CHD-Peo (6am-6pm)
    2. Peo-TABO-KAZA ( 9am-7pm)
    3. Kaza-Losar-Kunzum-Gramphu-rohtang-Manali-Kasol (8am-8pm)
    4. Kasol-CHD (Anytime man..)

    is Possible....

BTW Sir, when are the plans for leh this year. i am planning to do Leh-Khardungla-Panamik-Wari La-Sakti-Karu(Petrol)-Sakti-Chang La-Tangse-Pangong Tso-Chusul-Rhongo-Hanle-Tso Moriri-Leh this time. Its too much I guess. But still will give it a try if permits permit. Will need some expert comments. Me planning for 1st or 2nd week of June. All depends upon Kunzum La to be open. Although it is the most unpredictable one of allOfThem. Last2Last year we got stuck in kaza for 2 dayz cuz of some landslide just after Kunzum. when we crossed the landslide, still it was open for 2wheelers.

    Some Distances:

Chandigarh - jalori pass: 262 kms via sainj,292 via Aut.
    Sainj - Jalori: 54 kms
    Aut - Jalori: 42 kms
    Shimla - Kaurik: 337 kms
    Shimla-Narkanda: 65 kms
    Narkanda-Sainj: 30 kms
    Narkanda-Rampur: 66 kms
    Rampur-Jeori: 25 kms
    Jeori - Sarahan: 17 kms
    Jeori-Wangtu: 41 kms
    Wangtu - karcham: 34 kms
    Karcham - Sangla: 18 kms
    Sangla - Chitkul: 29 kms

If u are stuck before narkanda due to heavy snowfall on the NH, or you simply donot want to take that route back then u can follow this route which will bypass most of the NH and get you to Dharampur or if you please, directly till Pinjore. But be careful, these roads are single inner roads, and not as well kept as the NH. The route is:

Turn right towards Luri from sainj but continue straight instead of going towards jalori
    Luri-Sunni: 49 kms
    Sunni-Dhami: 45 kms
    Dhami-Shalaghat:10 kms
    Shalaghat-Arki:12 kms
    Arki-Kunihar:10 kms
    Kunihar-Dharampur: 34 kms
    Or
    Kunihar-Nalagarh-Pinjore: 85 kms

    Ken Da

Ken Da thanks for starting this thread. Though I am newly registered to XBhp but still I am on XBHP since very long. Approximately 3 years. Anyways, a few 3-4 days plans could be :

    1. Delhi - Lansdowne - Around 300+ Kms from Delhi. All of us know the route but just for the heck the route is Delhi - Ghaziabad - Modinagar - Meerut - Nazibababad - Kotdwara - Lansdowne. You may stay at Lansdowne and laze around or may go ahead to Pauri city. For my trip it was like Delhi - Lansdowne - Pauri - Deoprayag - Rishikesh - Haridwar - Delhi.

    2. Delhi - Badrinath - It is very much doable in 3-4 days. Around 500 kms from Delhi on NH 58. Just stick to NH 58 till the end to reach Badrinath.

    3. Delhi - Chopta - Tungnath - Around 400 kms from Delhi. From Chopta u need to trek till Tungnath and Deoria Tal.

    4. Delhi - Gangotri - Again 3-4 days ride from Delhi.

    5. Delhi - Yamnotri - 3-4 days ride from Delhi.

The good thing about Uttaranchal hills is the godly solitude. No oncoming traffic and no following traffic. only u and the thump of your bike.

ji jes, chitkul should be a good 2 day weekend thingie for YOU!!!

Then why give 5 day gyan - inspire them to reach your levels of performance, no?

Long time no updates here! Thought i'd add another one of my sojourns. Well this one's a 5 day trip from delhi but its well worth the leaves, if you working that is

    Day1 Delhi-Sarahan..around 500 kms, 11-12 hrs
    Day2 Sarahan-Sangla...4 hours
Day3 Sangla-Chitkul-Kalpa..by mid afternoon you should be in kalpa.
    Day4 Kalpa-Narkanda
    Day5 Narkanda-Delhi

The baspa valley is spectacular during blossom..Kinnaur, apple country..

You can do this in 4 days as well, but then u would have to ride all the way from kalpa the last day. If u have some experience in riding the himalays, then go for it. I did sangla chandigarh in a little over 9 hrs, for delhi it would be around 14.
