Re: 3-4 Day Getaways from Delhi

    Hey Guys,

I am planning to visit Rishikesh during the coming weekend( Jan31st to Feb 2) . Is this a good time to visit Rishikesh ( It is ok if rafting is unavailable ) ? Should i be taking the default route shown in GooMaps ( Muzzafar nagar -> roorkee ->) or is there any other better route. I have duke 390 so please let me know if I need to be careful about anything. Any suggestions are most welcome.

But i want a back up plan As may Be all above will remain close for Mr. Obama security reasons.

We are not wiling to go Jaipur.

We thought for rishikesh as a back up plan, but we will not be able to fun over there as no rafting and all. we would love enjoy the route. thought for Landowne but nothing fixed yet.

it will one night stay and back to delhi by late evening.

    Any Suggestions Please.
Nainital/Ranikhet/Chail/Mussoorie/Chakrata/Dhanaulti/RenukaJi/TattaPaani/Shimla (will be crowded but might have snow there or a few km up)

Take your pick. All of them can be done within a day of moderate riding.
Avoid Agra I say. Obama might want the whole place to himself and geared up bikers will attract unnecessary attention of the security guys in Agra.

That is one weekend i wouldn\\\\\\\'t be willing to ride anywhere. What with half the city doing the exact same thing and tightened security to boot. It will sure not be a hoot to get out of the city and traffic jams will abound.

Though if you wish to ride out, i would suggest maybe the colder climes of Dhanaulti in UK, a small little irrelevant town, going from nowhere and coming from nowhere. Go there only if you are interested in the ride. You can go via Dehradun and return via Rishikesh. You can also ride out to Tehri Dam reservoir on the return journey or such.

Just checked. Whopping 7k for a 50min session.

I'd rather go to uttrakhand for that much

We have done Sach Pass recently and this was one of my most foodie ride of life and I think Delhi-Chandigarh route is the most exotic route for foodie people you can get all the Punjabi food like Paratha's with lots of butter, Lassi and lots of food varieties all the way

    3. Pushkar (Rajasthani stuff + lots of mediterranean cuisine due to lots of foreigners living there)
    4. DharamSala/McLeodganj (due to lots of foreigners -- an eclectic choice of cuisine is available)
    5. Shimla (bakeries around the mall road. But strictly a one evening thing)

However, the best food I love is mutton and rice in any snow filled place. Beats everything
Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking of something like highway on my plate.

Btw, do we have a foodie group here? It would be awesome to meet people who are alike. Biking+food>Everything Else.

On a 4/5 day window from Delhi in first week of October(assuming that you are using the extended weekend) snow will be purely luck. I am not aware of the state of Sach pass in october, but you guys could do something like Delhi-Manali-Chandertal-Kaza-Manali-Delhi. Crossing Kunzum and Rohtang twice you might just be lucky to get some snow.
A few years back I was lucky enough to get snow at Rohtang in October.
