Yes,the highway from Delhi-Dehradun is awesome! I came to Dehradun 10 days back and it took me just 5 hours from Noida to reach here (which include 15 break at Roorkee). The highway is much better than what it used to be.You can hit 120 on the some stretches while cruising at 80-90kph is easy.Only bother are the roads 20-30km before Roorkee where there are no dividers at all.Riding alone is nightmarish! Truckers/Roadways buses treat bikers like nobody.I was nearly run over twice by roadways buses on that stretch. Now I have found a trick,i.e,to follow a car..Atleast,cars get their attention..Originally posted by Mik View PostOk. Didn't know about the Bir Pipli road. About the UP Road, yes Kurt would have been right till a few months back. It was a nightmare last year in September. This year, in April, i happened to go to DDN again, and was surprised to see the new highway complete. Its awesome.

Its been the same for last 10 years just like what you've experienced

Thats why I suggested Via Bir Pipli where you'll NOT pass through Indri and the bad patch you get (30kms. I mentioned there) is near-about Ladwa-Ynr.
And, about the UP Road info., I just wrote what I was told by Mr. Kurt while I asked him about the route for my Mussoorie trip (you can read the experience in my signature text).

LOL! You route you took from Karnal to Ynr. is via IndriOriginally posted by Mik View PostUmmm.. a year back, the karnal-yamunanagar-paonta road was absolutely horrible. In some places there were no tarred sections.
Regarding the UP Road - Not True. The new 4 laner highway makes travelling a breeze. The only paint points are the muradnagar traffic. The 4 laner ends some 20 odd km before Roorkee. You can take a roorkee bypass which is a little difficult to find (starts just after a green building where trucks pay toll) and then you join the Saharanpur road. Decent road. Then a Right onto the Dehradun highway through the forest and some 15 or 20kms of hill riding - you are in DDN. DDN to Mussoorie is fine.
From Mussoorie to Chakrata there is a beautiful road which bypasses Paonta Sahib. Take that. Some awesome hairpins.

Ummm.. a year back, the karnal-yamunanagar-paonta road was absolutely horrible. In some places there were no tarred sections.Originally posted by Garry_Menace View PostI would suggest you to go Delhi-Karnal-Bir Pipli-Yamunanagar-Paonta Sahib-Chakrata.
Reason, the route amidst UP (the one your post says) has much traffic on it and most of it is a single road (no dividers or dividers appearing occasionally). Instead, the route via Karnal-Bir Pipli has 165kms. of NH-1 which is will be much better to ride on. Then after Bir Pipli, leaving the National Highway you will head towards Yamunanagar. Before Yamunanagar, you'll have some bad patches for around 30kms. But after crossing Yamunanagar, its quite silent and calm route with very less traffic.
You can cover Mussoorie and Dehradun while returning from Chakrata and may follow the same route from Dehradun-Paonta and on.. or if you want, you can even experience the other route (amidst UP) also.

8th june - Delhi-Haridwar-Rishikesh-Dehradoon-maybe mussoorie too(depends on conditions)
9th - Dehradun/Mussoorie-New Tehri
10th - New Tehri-Pauri/Khirsu
11th - Pauri/Khirsu-Lansdowne
12th - Lansdwone - Delhi
Google Maps Link
Just 1 question, how's the road from mussoorie to tehri?Last edited by Parth; 05-14-2011, 12:18 PM.

Is srinagar worth visiting then? This would be a 'get away from delhi heat' kinda trip so I'm not looking to visit anyplace hot.Originally posted by kurtrules View PostSrinagar is very hot! There is no place to stay in Tehri (Old Tehri). Civilization has been moved to New-Tehri. So I suggest you spend a day in Khirsu only.
If I decide to leave srinagar out of the plan, is there an alternate route from khirsu to tehri?
Kidhar hai fir? Map my india shows it here : LINK sahi dikha rha haikya?Khirsu is not between Srinagar - Pauri.
Point noted, devprayag struck off the plan.Srinagar - Dev Prayag tehri would be quite long. Srinagar - Tehri is around 82 kms. It is the shortest route, but then again, the road is not in a good shape. will take you around 3 hours.
And so what if you have to miss out on Devprayag. What do you want to do there? Its just a small town on the NH58, significant only for the 'sangam' of the alaknanda and the bhaigirathi. You won't be loosing out much if you give it a pass. Ans also, you plane seems hurried. I would suggest you to give it an extra day.
Might include an extra day if I feel like it, after all it's a leisure trip not a saddle sore ride.
Thanks for your inputs.

Nai yaar, hum kaha gayaab ho sakte hai!Originally posted by Parth View Postvaibhav sir aaptoh gayab hi ho gye...
Srinagar is very hot! There is no place to stay in Tehri (Old Tehri). Civilization has been moved to New-Tehri. So I suggest you spend a day in Khirsu only.Originally posted by Parth View PostYou, sir, are awesome. Thanks for your inputs
EDIT: A friend asked me to consider Tehri instead of khirsu, I thought what the heck, do both. So the revised plan stands at :
Day1: Delhi-Lansdowne-pauri-khirsu
Day2: Khirsu-Srinagar-New Tehri-rishikesh Do some rafting in rishikesh if I'm accompanied with friends, else I'll push down till delhi/Stay the night someplace along the way if night falls.
Day3: Rishikesh- haridwar- delhi
Now some questions:
1.I want to add 1 day in this trip just to relax at any of lansdowne/Pauri/Khirsu/Srinagar/Tehri, which of these would be the best place to just hang out?
2.Where exactly is khirsu located? I don't seem to be able to find it on google maps. Is it between pauri-buwakhal or between pauri-srinagar
3. What's the best route for Tehri from srinagar? I have two options as you can see from the map, either Srinagar-Dang Chaunara-Molnau-New Tehri OR Srinagar-Devprayag - Tehri
The problem with option 1 is I'd have to miss out on devprayag, and the problem with option 2 is the roads(lines on my comp. screen so far) don't seem so good between devprayag and tehri
Are the roads between devprayag and tehri manageable?
Khirsu is not between Srinagar - Pauri.
Srinagar - Dev Prayag tehri would be quite long. Srinagar - Tehri is around 82 kms. It is the shortest route, but then again, the road is not in a good shape. will take you around 3 hours.

I sent you a PM. Chanshal is 65 from rohru via chirgaon - larote. No point doing it early may, the road would be blocked due to snow.Originally posted by Bestofrivals View Post@ kurtrules - sir can you give me some info for visiting chanshal , we are planning for 30th Apr to 2nd may.we are planning 1st day at rohru , how much time it will take from rohru to chanshal , can we find some snow over there??
